First off, I have absolutely adored my Canon 7D since the day I bought it; However, I was fortunate enough earlier this year to purchase a 5D Mark III and since then have been completely spoiled with all of it's features. Currently, my girlfriend and I are tackling weddings left and right, and if you've ever done a wedding before you probably know the lighting is only right about 50% of the timeā€¦ Now again, I love my 7D, But if I were to sell it and replace it with a newer camera what would you pay as the next best option? After selling my 7D, if I even take this route, I would not like to spend over $1000...

So whaddya think? 70D, 6D, keep my awesome 7D and deal with the noise the best I can? As always, thank you for your replies! I really love this form and all the support you all bring to the table! Thanks!

Just curious to see who uses NR for long exposures on the mark iii, and what are the benefits and drawbacks in your findings! Thanks!

Lenses / 135mm vs. 100mm macro
« on: April 15, 2013, 06:48:37 PM »
I just bought the 135mm and am looking forward to using it; however, I was torn before I bought with the possibility of getting the 100mm L. I am planning on using this range for weddings, portraits, and general events. Would you choose the 100 because of the IS? Interested in your thoughts! Thanks!

Lenses / Insurance on camera equipment
« on: April 11, 2013, 11:31:35 AM »
How many of you have insurance on your camera gear? I have reached the point where I'm feeling pretty dumb for not already having something.

Any advice on where to begin my research?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Long exposures won't record to 5d mark iii
« on: March 30, 2013, 12:26:16 AM »
This is an upsetting thing for me, considering what I love the most is doing startrails. I took my camera out tonight, slapped on the 17mm ts-e and tried to do a 20 minute exposure. Once I was done, the red processing light remained on for a good five minutes...I turned the camera off and a screen popped up saying, "recording image to disk"...I let this screen run for 10mins before taking my battery out and killing the cycle.

Has anyone run into this problem?

Do I have a defective mark iii?

I have yet to do any firmware updates..

My first thought was my memory card is not fast enough, but it's sandisk extreme cf 60mb/s. I tried an "extreme pro" 90mb/s and I ran into the same issue.

Any help would be wonder as this is really bumming me out :(

Ps: 30 sec exposures take about 45secs to record and pop up as a preview....

Lenses / Need your opinions on selling my 50L and 24/70L
« on: March 24, 2013, 10:45:20 PM »
So I have the 50mm L and the first version of the 24-70mm L. If I were to sell them both on eBay, I could afford the second version of the 24-70...I just bought the 70-200 IS f/2.8 II and have been blown away with its sharpness and would love to have that kind of sharpness in the 24-70 range.

My question is: do you think it's worth giving up my 50L to pursue this, and why or why not? I love the 1.2 and I'd probably eventually buy the 85mm 1.2 down the road

What are your thoughts?!?

Thanks! : 8)

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 5D mark III auto focus (newb) question!
« on: February 20, 2013, 10:04:19 PM »
I'm an accountant full time. I just bought a 5d not too long ago and haven't really had a good sit down with her. My question is about the way the auto focus picks what to focus on. On my 7d, I never had to do any kind of adjusting; I always felt it just kind of knew what I was trying to focus and would do it, but as of right now my 5d only selects the very middle of each frame? Is there a quick way to allow the camera to pick what it believes to be best?

I know this question is ridiculous, but I have little to no time during tax season!

Thank you!

Lenses / Help me choose between the two: 70-200 f2.8 IS or 17 TS-E?
« on: January 31, 2013, 10:11:18 PM »
I am torn. I shoot both weddings, and shoot real estate. I shoot both wide life and the night sky. I shouldn't buy them both. Which one would you choose and why?

What do you all use to light paint? I'm loving the sense of motion El wires gives you!

Lenses / Quick macro question!
« on: December 24, 2012, 12:24:55 PM »
I have the 100mm and in the future I'm planning upping to the L version. I love the macro lens; however, I still would like to get closer. I am aware of the exsistence of canons tubes you can purchase, but will that get you...close as in, right up on an insects eyes? Or is that kind of thing done with cropping?

Lenses / Difficulties choosing next L series
« on: December 16, 2012, 06:04:40 PM »
Just bought my first FF, and I am torn on my third L lens to purchase. As of now I have three lens: 50mm f/1.2, 24-70mm f/2.8, and a 100mm 2.8 macro.

As of now, my love seems to be anything dealing with long exposures.

What to do, what to do?!?!

I am a sucker for sharpness, and don't mind pretending like my credit card is fake money, and then crying about it once I get bill.

I'm renting the 14mm 2.8 ii but unfortunately haven't been able to test it to my liking due to the continuous rain..

I guess what I'm asking is..what L series would you get that's under 24mm focal range?

I'm aware this question has probably been answered multiple times on here, but I'd rather someone on here repeat themselves over the same passion I possess than watch my girlfriend roll her eyes again with disinterest.

Thank you!

EOS Bodies / 5D mark iii video issue..
« on: December 16, 2012, 02:48:42 PM »
I bought the canon 5d mark iii just under two months ago from best buy. I bought this camera for photography; however, I went to a concert last night and shot some film...when I got back and opened the file on my Mac, there were faint, big black lines that continuously move up the screen from bottom to top...? Any ideas on why this might be occurring. It sucks because I think I've breached the return day limit at best buy :-/

Thank you
