All were aperture priority - usually at f1.8.  ISO 320.  Taken at the Seymour Conservatory in Wright Park, Tacoma, WA.

Sorry if this is obvious, but just to confirm - did you install DPP from the disc that came with the camera?  Many just-released cameras ship with a version of DPP that's newer than the most recent downloadable version, and that newer version is required to handle the RAW files.  The fact that DPP is not listed as an available download on the Canon USA G-15 page suggests that you need the one from the included disc (that was the case with my S100).

Yep, on 2 pc's and a mac all with the same effect.  Canon has released an update to Image Browser EX, but the latest DPP is now working with the raw files from this camera.  I've checked other Canon sites - UK, AUS, global for a newer version without luck.

PowerShot / G15 and RAW files - grrrr

Well, Canon has dropped the ball.  You can shoot RAW with the G15, bring them into ImageBrowser EX, try to open them in DPP, but no go on any edits of any type.  It's a format that DPP sees as RAW but cannot display or edit.  Of course, Adobe isn't ready for these yet, and who knows when.  I've verified this on 2 windows boxes, mac to follow.

How can Canon sell a camera that you cannot work with the files?  Don't tell me to use the JPEGS, I would have just stuck with a crappy P&S.  The hope that f1.8 and the return of macro capability are what sold the camera to me.

Grrr.  Actually, double grrr to you Canon.

Software & Accessories / Re: Colour consistency

For me, I'm using a passport color checker in the field - then create a profile in Lightroom and apply to the pictures.  On my monitor, I've got an Xrite that works well.  I guess the next step is to get my printer profiled, but paying tuition on 2 college students and the printer has a clogged black print head are putting that off.

Take a look at the online seminars that X-rite offers.  It's easier than it seems if you get a workflow and stay consistent.

My copy arrived from TheVideoGuys.com yesterday.  Installed, valid serial number and it's working just fine.  Sometimes, when it seems too good to be true, it is true.  Now, if it were just one vendor offering this type of deal....

seems D800 heard the similar rumor

http://d800.org/2012/08/promo-400-off-adobe-photoshop-cs6/

It seems very fishy though... Nothing is listed on B&H's site about the deal.  And that videoguys site has some worrisome reviews.

Eric, has your item shipped/ been recieved?

Squarebox,

The vendor gave me a USPS tracking number which shows a package on it's way.  Should be here early next week and I'll report back then.

Software & Accessories / Photoshop CS6 on sale

I saw a posting that B&H has Photoshop CS6 on sale for $249, but the details were unclear how this would work.  So, a bit of searching found it elsewhere for $249 out the door.  Here is where I ordered a copy:

Enjoy,

One thing to try is in Win 7 right click on the app and select "Troubleshoot compatibility" and you will be presented a series of options for running the application with compatibility equal to the previous OS that it ran fine as.  The other option is to download the Windows XP mode for Win 7.  It can be found here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx

What you are downloading is a full copy of a virtual machine running XP mode.

Full disclosure - I am a consultant with Microsoft.  I was a competitive technology hire 8 years ago and am typing this message out on a Mac Book Pro, so I feel I can be objective.

Recently, we bought my wife a new Samsung Series 7 laptop - 1 TB drive, 8GB of RAM, Core i5 cpu, but most importantly, an IPS screen.  She does real estate appraisals and takes hundreds of photos each week.  We bought it at the Microsoft store in Lone Tree, CO and I only identified myself as a MSFT employee after we purchased the laptop.  It has no crapware and she is very happy with it.
