It will be the new 24-70 IS.  Bet the house on it.  Want to know why???? Because I just ordered the original from B&H.    Grrrrrr  And, that means it will be a superb, transformative lens that will instantly drop the value of the one that I will have had for a week by a significant amount.  LOL

Local disk storage will diminish in importance over time as storage moves to a more resilient cloud model.  There is a reason that Google, Apple, Microsoft, IBM and Amazon are all investing tons of money in that direction.  The one question that I have yet to see a pattern will be long-term archival of the data in your pictures.  Rotating magnetic media is inefficient and needs maintenance.  So, 36 megapixels will not be a pressing issue down the road.

As far as RAM goes, it has a price cycle that drops quickly in price as manufacturing is ramped up followed by a price rise as the demand and supply for that type of RAM declines.  Go price current memory vs something used say 3 years ago such as 800MHz.

I would love the increased pixels as long as the noise is reduced and we get a wider dynamic range.  For me, these are a higher priority.

C'mon people.  Let's keep this simple and practical.  I'm sure that we can all agree that we really need is a 70-200 lens mug that is also an actual lens.  Why should we have to carry around both?  Just pop out the glass, pour in beverage and we're good to go.

And while we're at it, why are we fixated with 70-200?  When I want a caffeine fix, I REALLY want a caffeine fix.  That means the all new Canon 800mm f5.6L coffee jug/lens.  I mean really, if I'm shelling out over 10k for a super telephoto, shouldn't I at least be able to store about 8 liters of coffee in there?

Diagram not drawn to scale:

Absolutely fab!  Except, the guy on the right would be shaking uncontrollably!  I have a friend who a decade ago had a coffee shop.  He had a drink called the Kavorkian that had 12 shots in it.  Only saw one person ever drink one and that was a guy who used to have a nasty speed habit.  Not completely over his problem, I'm guessing.

Twin EOS mounts, imagine 3D photography with twin 24-70/2.8's attached!

The thought makes my back ache!  Unless you add the requisite anti-gravity switch onto the body.

I'd take two items - one possible, the other desireable

First, built in WiFi - 102.11n please so I can have EyeFi like capability.
Second, a built in filter that makes those of us over age 40 look just a bit thinner when needed!

Never heard of these guys, but note their return policy:
We accept returns on products with in the 30 day return period on 35mm equipment with a 10% restocking fee. and 7 day return period on all digital cameras, camcorders, digital lenses and flashes with a 15% restocking fees. Restocking fees & shipping/ handling/ insurance fees will be deducted from the credit card that we have on file. Please note all discounted sale packages are at final sale and non-refundable.

So, since this is a discounted sale package, you get what you bought.  Might be legit, might be grey market, might be couterfit or non-working, but sale is final.  I've had some bad experiences trying to get money back from shady photography stores.  I'd pass on this one.

What about the upcoming Sony NEX-7?  Not FF, but plenty of megapixels, the sony sensors are good and there are a variety of lenses for it.  It's already the #2 camera on Amazon.

On a side note - those who poopoo the compacts, please consider the conditions with which people are choosing them.  My father had a heart attack in December and lugging around the 5D II with lenses becase too demanding physically for him.  We got him a G12 and he loves it.  Sure, it's not going to take the same pictures as the 5d, but considering that it has him taking pictures again and enjoying photography, it's a great choice.  Plus, it really is a remarkable camera when you consider the capabilities for the price.

We are living in the golden age of digital photography today!  Enjoy it.  Take pictures.  Improve your skills, your passion and your collections.  Go and have some fun.

Software & Accessories / Re: Neck strap alternatives

I'm using a Black Rapid RS7 with the BRAD attachment for a gripped 5D II with a 70-200 II and find it to be a lot more comfortable than a neck strap.  I also recently purchased the belt system from Think Tank for lugging lenses, flash, water bottle, etc.  So, far it's helped my back with carrying all the weight.

My father, who is shooting a G12, is using the Sun Sniper since I just got him one as a gift.  I'll let you know, but the concept is very similar to the black rapid.

Well, the only reason Apple and Microsoft give out prerelease software in the first place is to test compatibility.

This statement is patently false and misleading.  Companies give out prelease software to test functionality, performance, compatibility and stability.  You clearly don't work with software testing or with software development.  Stick to something you have some expertise in.

You're right.  My comment was harsh and uncalled for.  I apologize Mack.

I ended up buying a Promote remote control. It will allow you to take up to 9 I believe, plus supports timelapse and timelapse HDR too.  Highly recommended.

I've had nothing but great experiences with Amazon.  If you are a prime member, two day shipping is free, one day is $3.99 per item.  If you have an Amazon visa card, you get 3% credit for Amazon purchases.  My only caveat with Amazon is that if you have to involve them in a refund for a 3rd party purchase, you are limited to doing this only 5 times in your lifetime.

Recently I purchased some mats from Adorama through Amazon and somehow they were folded 3 times between Adorama and my house!  Adorama gave me a full refund the next day after contacting them including the shipping costs too, so good for Adorama.

Finally, even though I'm not Jewish, I find it neat that companies adhere to their religious beliefs like B&H and Adorama too and shut down for a while.  I believe that only B&H stop taking web orders during this time.  I support this and can plan my purchases around this schedule.  In my opinion, it's good for their employees and families.

Lastly, I have found a good local vendor - Denver Pro Photo and purchase from them too.  It would be a sad day when there are no local photo shops where you can look and try different equipment.  If I take their time to give me advice and guidance, I'll purchase it there rather then go and buy it from Amazon, B&H or Adorama.

I have the first gen version of this lens - needed something for a trip to Hawaii and Mark II wasn't out.  Not the sharpest, but some interesting pictures.  Here is one at 12mm
