Canada / Re: Adorama shipping to Canada

I sat in the distribution centre in North York Toronto for 2 hours waiting for what the UPS person on the phone told me was there and waiting in the office. The people at the distribution centre told me it was on the truck. I was not the only one in this predicament. Several people came in and were severely disappointed. Unfortunately this was not my only poor experience with UPS but I guarantee it will be my last.

A quick Google search of "UPS Sucks" brings up many many valid results. USPS is a better alternative to UPS. UPS is the worst regardless of issues with other delivery services.

Real thanks now !
And i could replace my answer in context, i do not wait for this lens so urgently, i actually use a 15-85 IS as trans-standard lens ans i'm quite happy using it. But in order to upgrade this lens, i really think about a 24-70. Especially because i have a 10-22, and a 70-200 2.8L, it could be a great solution to full fill all ranges.

That combination works excellently. The 24-70 is a fantastic lens on crop or not.

Canon General / Re: Canon Canada Cleaning and Calibration Service

Edited as I've just come back to this...

It was $300 to clean and calibrate one lens?! And it took 6 weeks!? Holy ____!

I've got a 24-70 I want cleaned and calibrated. If it costs more than half that I will be pissed and it better take 5 business days or less. From speaking with peers here in Toronto that's not unreasonable.

Can't be a 7D! Only fullframe offers crisp results! ;)

Indeed, a 7D.

And thank you. :)

I will not order from Adorama again until they ditch UPS as their courier to Canada. I'd recount all the ways that UPS has pissed me off, both in my one Adorama order (not again until they ditch UPS), and other times I haven't paid attention to what service is being used, but I wish to avoid an aneurysm this evening. UPS? Not buying. They're absolutely horrible in every conceivable way and even manage to suck in some inconceivable ways.

So all this does is allow you to look at raw files in explorer? I've been looking at raw files in my file manager in Linux since I got the camera and simply added raw support.

Oh yeah, the Port Dalhousie shot was taken with this lens...

Summer Sunset at Michigan Beach in Port Dalhousie Pier, Ontario by Christopher Brian's Photography, on Flickr

This was my favourite shot for a long while. It was kinda the tipping point of when I started to learn to process well. It's quite flawed but I still have a soft spot for it.

Am I the only one here with this lens?

Yes, I have used the 17-40L and I don't particularly like it. The first reason is on a crop it's not an UWA and it basically becomes, at best, half of a general zoom. I reasoned that I was better off with an UWA made for the format because it's a more appropriate application and a proper general zoom, the 24-70. I also wasn't blown away by it, there are many people who get great results out of it, I can not.

As for the Tokina on fullframe, yes, it only does work in the long end of its very short range. Not such a big deal as it's more of an adjustment from 11 to 16 than it is a zoom :D. I wouldn't recommend it as a lens to shoot landscape on full frame though, get a UWA made for full frame if that's your plan. The 16-35L, 14L, 17TS, 21mm Zeiss... and Tokina is coming out with a 16-28 for full frame if, like me, you don't like the 17-40 there are lots of options.

On UWA is the only time the crop factor is a pain. Every other instance I like the extra reach just fine. Easily solved with the very competent Tokina which you can sell quite easily if you make the mad dash to full frame glory.
