EOS Bodies / Re: Canon to Announce 2 Cameras in June [CR2]
« on: May 22, 2012, 10:41:45 AM »
Hoping for FF canon mirrorless and EF mount pancakes available before September, I don't care if it's Digic IV, V, or V+ as long as the Black and White is nice.  I always think about getting into street photography for the fun of it, but never can decide on the right gear... I don't want to start a whole new collection of lenses that aren't interoperable with my DSLR if possible...

I LOVE Norman Camera.  I had a problem with the 5D Mark III I ordered from them pertaining to multiple hot/stuck pixels.  They just shipped me a replacement when Canon replenished their stock.  Spot on customer service by Pat.  Great guys out there.

Portrait / Re: Portraits of my GF, Would like feedback!!
« on: May 09, 2012, 01:16:50 PM »
Wow for all the response. I'll definitely appreciate the advice! As far as my overall look, I wasnt going for a traditional portrait. I wanted the pictures to look warm and a little vintage.

@vuiling - lol well I hope your eyes feel better! as far as the picture not having contrast, I would definitely disagree. That foreground is a light leak from the sun, not dirt. Why were you dissapointed that they were taken with a mark iii??

@axil - Thanks man, I really appreciate it :) Ill definitely work towards getting my subject to pop more!

@pdi - Haha yeah I can see what your saying about the arms.

@ker - Thanks, I'll definitely try using more curves in the future

Question - why do you think the first pose looks awkward?? I can see how her arms in the second shot look cut off, but the first I really enjoy. I understand that you guys are saying the post is done too warm, but would you really be able to tell had I not posted the before pics??

Once again thanks for all the feedback. keep it coming! In a constructive way.... :)

Clearly you have balls of steel to ask for C&C and post your work here.  Very nice model!  Don't listen to vuiling's comment on the 5D III and disappointing images.   Who cares about what camera you use, just get out and shoot something!  Disregard vuiling's whole post.  I've never had an image online actually "hurt my eyes".  That saying is in poor taste, and won't do anything to help you improve your photography techniques.  I agree that the skin tones do look underexposed.  My favorite composition - the full body portrait in the doorway.  Do some more like that, I think your onto something there.

I can't find the actual page on Aquatech's web site.  Is it just me?  Can someone please post a direct link to the product?  Thanks.

Pricewatch Deals / Re: Another SanDisk Sale at B&H

Purchased a 64 GB Extreme CF card.  These things are just ridiculously expensive even on sale.  Finally have decent 64 GB cards in both slots on my 5D III.  My life is now complete.  I can die a happy man with tons of flash cards.

Lenses / Re: Lenses: 35L II & 85L III Next Up? [CR1]
« on: April 23, 2012, 05:15:56 PM »
85mm is personally my favorite focal length (I shoot full frame).  I have yet to go L lenses in this length, I still love my 85/1.8 Non-L.  I'll wait on Fred Miranda's site for a great deal on an 85LII if I get that L lens itch.  For now, I'm still in that honeymoon phase with my 85/1.8 -  something about it just makes me feel more creative when I shoot whatever, and just don't see an 85LII in the near future, and don't see an 85LIII being released any time soon.

I have been pining over the 24L TS-E II for landscaping pictures I only dream of taking, but that is for another thread.  Damn you Fred Miranda and your gorgeous pictures with that lens  ;D ;D

Software & Accessories / Re: Where to position a watermark
« on: April 19, 2012, 02:22:22 PM »
I put mine in the lower right via Lightroom which scales it automatically - keeping it small, lightly transparent, and barely noticeable in most photos, which I like.  It keeps reminding me I need to SERIOUSLY update my website though since my watermark is a URL.  I use a gothic font of some kind.  It took me a while to settle on the font because the watermark just wasn't maintaining the amount of clarity I wanted when I converted pictures to JPEG and web appropriate sizes.  I'm not concerned with copyright issues, but I like the watermark since I kinda think of it as a signature, nothing more.

Try record a video, since remapping does not seem to work on video. If they show up in video, it's your call if to ask for a new one.

Now video abnormalities is a very good point to be concerned about.  Thank you for bringing that up.  Eventually, I am sure I'll be shooting some video - I do feel a strong pull towards it when I get some time.  I'll check out if indeed there are hot pixel issues in video mode on the 5DIII and report back.  I would consider that a worthy warranty issue I will address with Canon and my dealer, even if I don't plan on using video yet...

**UPDATE 4/11/2012 @1 PM:

I have no hot pixels during video.  It's a keeper ;)

Thank you all for your replies. Much appreciated!  I will leave the remapping as my solution.  After the remap, the images are perfect to me at 100% crop.

This is the first camera I really cared about 100% crops anyways -  the IQ is so fantastic for my shooting style I rarely need to worry about noise processing like I did at ISO 1600 on my 7D...  I find myself zooming in at my pictures in Lightroom and smiling like a child who just found the Cookie Jar and no one else is around ;)

Good afternoon,

I bought a 5D Mark III a short while ago, and noticed on all my pictures (short and long exposures, different lenses, etc...) 5 or 6 pixels were showing up as bright white.  I ran a manual sensor clean for one minute (says to do it in the manual), and all the hot pixels are gone.  I have no interest at all in returning the camera because it works perfectly after the manual sensor cleaning.  I am looking for some  feedback from others more experienced than me with buying new camera backs (I've only bought 2 in the past 6 years including the 5DIII).

I google searched and see that hot/stuck pixels are easy to clean using the manual sensor clean..  I can't help wondering though - Is it worth any concern to have hot pixels right out of the box BEFORE I ran a manual sensor clean on my new 5D Mark III?  What is really going on here?  Does this frequently happen during shipping between warehouses/stores, or is it packed in the Canon factory with this mild-but-annoying issue?  I'd love a Canon rep to weigh in on this...

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D Mk III Owners - are you happy?
« on: March 30, 2012, 02:31:00 PM »
I love it!  My biggest 5DIII happy feeling: color reproduction and IQ looks great to me through a wide range of ISO settings.  My complaint:  the AF system is a bit intimidating for me, but I'm working my way through that.

A little added bonus for me was finding out this week that my Tokina 11-16/2.8 works pretty darn good at 15.5-16mm even if it is a crop lens at 2.8!  It's a bit soft around the edges, but so am I!
