I hope that the shutter on my 50D will keep on running long enough for a decent replacement...

If I understood this correctly the AF module is a new one that works under extreme low light conditions (better than the AF modules in the other EOS cameras) -- that sounds like good news to me.

I want one -- I think some details are too overrated. Too much of a marketing race (right term?) with Nikon. Not all features are really that important

one more thing to add: comparing it to a fully manual lens, including aperture selection like the Rokinon, doesnot really work. two types of lenses with different problems...

as far as I understood all wide open lenses are prone to focus shifts - more or less - if you stop down.

modern slrs focus and meter at the widest possible aperture and only close down when opening the shutter. this will always causes shifts in focus. the tricky part of the lens design is to counterbalance this (expensive) and to know how the AF of the camera works. that's where the difference comes in between lens designs and whether they do support aperture control by thebody or not

so, I only use this lens open (max. 2.2) and I like it this way...

I started loving this lens once I understood that you need to shoot wide open with it. On my 50D it shifts too much at smaller apertures. So I wouldn't call this an all purpose lens, but I'm glad I have it.
1.4 works wonders...
But do test your copy before you buy it.
(oh, and yes, I would like a 35L, but I just don't have the money)

Software & Accessories / Re: Lightroom 4 Problems

In a way hearing that the performance of the current version is sluggish in certain areas makes me happy. I've tried Lr4 on my old iMac, I really like the package and the results, but adjusting sliders was a nightmare in some cases. If that will be fixed I'll buy it for sure...

Personally even if I dont get a picture in the top ten I'll have still enjoyed the buzz of 'maybe'.

Like a lot of people I take lots of pictures which very few other people get to see let alone judge. Also having looked through the remaining categories I honestly can't see how one could pull out the best ten. The level is so consistently high throughout. There are some killer shots there which wont make the top ten for sure.

Thanks CR for the opportunity and thrill of the chase!
very true.
I know I don't stand a chance having seen the finalists. But one needs to start some day...
great event.
thanks for all the work
