11 AF points and only ONE of them is cross-type??

Meanwhile the D600 gets 39 points and 9 cross-types!

Even the "lowly" rebel T3i / 650D has 9 cross types!

What are you doing Canon?? Trying to breathe new life into the old focus & recompose technique?

The wording might be an unlucky one. It might as well mean that the center point is a higher precision cross-type, and that there are more cross-types among the other 10 points.

It ended up being pretty cheap in Sweden compared to the rest of europe (from what it seems, at least compared to the eurozone and britain), just the normal dollar price times 10 that we're used to, which means I paid 2000 SEK (which is around $290) for this brilliant little beaut. It is quite comparable to my voigtländer ultron 40/2, with the added AF that is sometimes a neat thing to have (I feel MF works on the EF, but it can't beat the near-perfection of the focusing on the ultron).

I just wish the MF ring didn't look like such an afterthought.  The MF ring on L lenses are wider than this lens is total most likely.  I just hope, with the pancake design, that OOF bokeh doesn't look like crap and the element doesn't extend when focusing.

Certainly. The focus ring is probably as large as they could make it, more or less, but it'll still beat the 50/1.8 II focus ring (and it has FTM, to boot).

Background rendering with pancake lenses can be really good, so I share your hopes there. Press release (or at least dpreview) says internal focusing, so I guess it shouldn't extend?

I made the same observations re the MTF graphs. It looks really good compared to the 50/1.8 and 50/1.4, neither of which are bad optically. I'm just about to preorder it, but it'll apparently start shipping as late as late august/early september over here.

It's MTF is quite impressive all things considering... just dont drop it, or sneeze on it, or pass gas near it... haha

Compared to the 50/1.8 II, I'm willing to bet the build quality is metric miles ahead. Half the size, same weight.

I'm getting one. Definitely.

I have the CV Ultron, and it's my daily driver, but I'm a pancake junkie, and 40mm is my favourite focal length. Haven't got any AF ones yet, though, so this'll be a nice occasional change from the Ultron. Looks like it's slightly smaller, too.

Did some research... he shoots Film, so the prints are one of a kind... I get it a bit now...

It might be possible to go from a digital file to a "traditional" darkroom print, but I have no idea how that would be done, so I'm guessing it's an ink on paper print.

This isn't that unusual. Web search "digital RA-4". Both 99 Cent II Diptychon and Rhein II were printed this way, if I recall correctly.

I don't really think there's much to complain about the 85/1.8, except for the time lapsed between introduction and present day. An 85/1.4 from Canon would be sweet, though...

Received this lens last friday, so I haven't had that much time to try it out yet, but even considering the thrill of new glass, it is really good. But of course, since it's my first lens faster than f/1.8, I've mostly shot it at f/1.4... It gets really sharp stopped down a bit, though. It might be stuck to the camera all winter if I'm not careful.

If near true, this sounds a lot like the kind of camera I have been wanting since I figured out that I wanted an FF body.

At least if the viewfinder is decent. Good DR and ISO performance sounds good enough. Makes me wonder a bit over the sensor technology, though. Will it be a backlit FF sensor or what?
