I bought my XSI back in late 2008 I believe with the 18-55 and 75-300 III lenses. At the time I thought that was enough, but a friend of mine let me borrow the 28-135 IS for my honeymoon. Soon after that it was the 70-200L and 24-105L and the list went on :)

Pricewatch Deals / Re: EOS M, 2 Lenses & Flash Kit Deal via BuyDig $399
« on: October 07, 2013, 09:58:01 AM »
I caved and bought it with this deal.. Ive been wanting a point and shoot for awhile to compliment the 5D3. Most cases using my nexus camera phone when I dont feel like dragging the heavy gear around. I actually had about 10 dollars in ebay bucks that had to be used so it made it 390 shipped from a authorized dealer.

Even with the new M likely around the corner and the S120 being tempting, for 399 I couldn't go wrong.

Lenses / Re: How to carry 5DMKIII with 70-200/2.8ISMKII
« on: September 04, 2013, 06:34:27 AM »
I regularly carry my 5d3 and 70200 2.8 ii on a black rapid strap (both the double and the spot version) with absolutely no problems or worrys.

I usually keep it attached to the tripod mount just so that it is more evenly balanced

ditto, I carry the 100-400L with the 5D3 (similar in size to your combo) with the RS-7 and jave absolutely no issues or worries. I leave it on the tripod mount at all times. Its just so much more comfortable with a 5+ lb setup on your shoulder as opposed to your neck like the canon strap.

Lenses / Re: Which L Lens to start with?

I third or fourth the 70-300L ($1300) as the the lens that might cover a lot what your looking for.

However, I would seriously consider the 70-200L F/4 ($550) for the price if you dont need IS or the wider aperture. Its defintely going to be sharper the 18-200 and not that much less then the 2.8 II.

When and if the newer 100-400L gets replaced expect it do be at least $2500.. The current version is great and I got mine like new on CL for $900 so there are deals to be found on this lens currently.

Pricewatch Deals / Re: Canon Refurb Sale Starting 8-25
« on: August 24, 2013, 03:54:48 PM »
Do you know if the CLP discount can run in conjunction with a refurb sale? If so, I might have to get myself a $1000 6d or $1700 5d3...

No, but the CLP discount might apply to some cameras that the sale will not apply to.  Typically, the 5D MK III is not included in the sales, but CLP works for it.

Actually I called about the CLP recently because they had a 1DX for around $5400 refurb that I was thinking about buying then trying to resell but the program doesn't currently offer the 6D, 5D3, or 1DX. Not sure about the 1D4 but it seemed like it was only for 7D and below.

I doubt the 6D or 5D3 last for more then an hour once the sale starts assuming that are including in the sale this time around..

All are very good.. I own the Canon 50 1.4 and the 85 1.8 and tend to lean toward the 85 with FF because I like the tighter shots. Most of my shots are my son or wife/son, so not a lot of group shots. With some room, 2-4 people group shots are doable IMO. I do find AF a litter faster on the 85 as well with my Mark III.

You will lose just a little low light capability with the 85 or 100, in both aperture and need for faster shutter speed to compensate for the focal length.

Never owned the 100 but I hear its nearly identical in performance to the 85 with just a little longer reach and a 1/3 less stop. That being said I would get the 85 because its usually $50-75 cheaper

Pricewatch Deals / Re: Canon 6D - Meike grip on ebay for under $40

I had a Meike grip on my 60D and it was solid and fully functional. I was thinking about getting a grip for the 5D3 and if I did I would be perfectly happy getting this brand. Build qty is decent for that price

Lenses / New Lens Purchase Dilemma
« on: December 24, 2012, 09:43:55 AM »
Merry Christmas everyone...

So Ive sort of narrowed down my next lens choice but kinda of wanted to get some feedback on the following. If you had 1K to spend which would you choose? I do really want to do macro stuff but could probably live without true 1.1. Other primary function would be indoor shots of my son and wife. Here is options below as I figure all would be about the same cost. I tend to use the long end of my 24-105 when shooting.

100L F/2.8 IS + LR4 (Rocking LR3 right now)
135L F/2 + Set of Extension Tubes
100 F/2.8 USM + 85mm F1.8 + 40mm F.28

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 5d2 officially discontinued.

I almost pulled the trigger on the Mark II multiple times when I kind of wore and outgrew my XSI. When it was finally time to upgrade, the Mark II about three years into the production schedule and with rumors abound I waited a little longer. I wanted to start getting into video when my son was born so I bought a 60D figuring it would hold me off for 12-18 months. I still planned on getting the Mark II when they did finally release the Mark III due to the assumed price drops  but when I got the Mark III for $2499 it was tough to pass up.

Kodak DC280 - Camera lasted me over 6 years and still runs to this day
