EOS Bodies / Re: Hugely Disappointed In 5D III Price
« on: March 07, 2012, 10:37:00 AM »
the 5Dmk2  IS the low priced full frame its here right now

the 7D mk2 will be king of the crops with high FPS dusl digics to satisfy all the sports wildlife shooters that want the reach I really dont think canon will ignore this market, It will have the same AF as the 5dmk3 too and it will cost more and everyone will be sad and unhappy at the price :D

I do think 1 crop body will disappear i'm guessing the xxxxD line and rebels will be the new entry level DSLR with 70D mid way

I agree.  I can't imagine them upgrading the 7d to FF.  It's just going to be top of the line crop camera.

Count me in the undecided category. I'm ready for a new camera and new glass (all my gear is 5-10 years old and VERY well used), so it's either the 5dm3 or the d800.  I'm waiting for the reviews and then I'll have to price the glass and camera together.

The 5d3 is a pretty all around camera -- I do mostly portraits and events, but it would be awesome for just about any use I can think of.  I'm upgrading from an original 5d, and will go with it or possibly the Nikon D800 since I'm ready to change my lenses too (they're all 6+ years old and ready to take advantage of the newer versions and IS lenses that have been released in the past couple of years).

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D Mark III Full Spec List?

I love reading this comments -- arguing about whether the specs are good enough when they haven't even been announced yet.  I'll save my arguing for another few hours!

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D3 or 1DX for Ultimate Image Quality...

For me the question is 5dm3 or nikon d800.  Gotta wait to see the official specs and comparative reviews.

$2700 makes sense ($3500 with kit).

I was just privileged to open page #40. So, shall we set up a poll at how much this will add up till the 2nd of March?  :P
I'll vote for 80.

If you'd be nice enough to link me towards classified adds, or ebay etc. where there are used 1ds's at that price, I'd be thankfull. 1ds mk II goes for 2000 here.

1Ds2 are about 1200 euros here

Nearly every used 1Ds3 on ebay right now is going for about US $5000 or more.   Nobody is going to sell that camera (new or used) for anywhere near the price of a 5dm3 / 5dmx.

I could shoot this camera for a very, very long time, and not worry at all about what comes after.

If only that were true...if you're any of the rest of us who religiously think about the rumor, you'll be worried about what comes after right away. That being said, I'm still shooting with my trusty 5d which I got just as soon after its release as I could.

Lenses / Re: New Lenses Coming [CR3]
« on: February 22, 2012, 03:41:03 PM »
I have no need for super-zooms, so I'm sure my opinion doesn't matter...but that is a *huge* price jump (about 10x) to go from the 100-400 f/4-5.6 plus a separate 1.4x TC, to get a 200-400 f/4 with TC built in.  How big is the market for that? You gain one stop at the long end of the zoom and have the convenience of a built-in TC, but lose the 100-200mm range and pay 10x the price.

And I have a feeling that this this camera will be a step up compared to the 5D2

Why would you think otherwise? This camera is 75% expensive from the current model and is competing against $3000 d800.

I'm no expert on prices in the past, but it seems like every time a new model has been launched, the price until now has been very close the model it's replacing.  Therefore it's a little strange to have such a big markup this time around.

EOS Bodies / Re: March 2, 2012 The Day for an Announcement?

This is very bad news.  What's going to happen to CR if the 5dmiii is announced? 75% of the board's traffic is going to drop off.   :)

EOS Bodies / Re: Due for a letdown?
« on: February 18, 2012, 05:00:29 PM »
With all these dreamy rumored specs floating around on the 5dx (or whatever it's called). Does anyone else get the feeling that with all the build up and hype, that we are all due for a let down in one way or another.
Aah, the joy of rumors...first the anticipation, then the anticipation for the letdown, then the gleeful purchase, and finally the shooting (which turns out to be a lot like the photography we've always done, but now with a few more features).   :)

+1  I think they would use 2 processors 1 Digic5 and the Digic4 for the AF.

Auto WB Flash would be AWESOME!  I hate gellin,  If they incorporate radio instead of IR  that would be fantastic especially considering the issues they have had with Pocketwizards.  I use the Radiopoppers and they work great but if I can go without another item to buy/break!  I would change out my 580exIIs.  Oo also give it some power heh.

I agree.  I'm almost as excited about 580 replacements with radio as I am about the 5dm3 or 5dx.
