Would not worry to much, clearly somebody is testing the waters. After they scared us with disappointing specs for the 6D (they may turn out to be real in the end) mere $2745 for 5DIII seems just to good to be true for the moment.
At least we know for sure that they are not selling nearly enough 5DIII bodies.
My advice: wait some more if you absolutely don't need for work right now, real "Christmas" will come to everybody soon, or maybe even some better body models offerings...

Like Canon have no idea how market reacted so far to their new pricing futures crippling strategy!
Instead of moaning and crying at the time of paying with credit cards for 5DIII, just sent a short but clear message with your wallet already!
You will see a real change coming very soon.
Just because you will send another ultra "POWERFUL" message to canon on CR
nobody will bother until they still getting our money.
Trust me Canon will wait in to the last moment before giving up, this is clearly new philosophy and there is no cure for that except firm market force, and that is if there is any sanity left in the management.

It's the sign of the time... people realized that the market after Flickr is still the same, odds of making money same, same people in the game, and hoopla on sites as Flickr don't really mean anything but hoopla, and in order to make some money you have to go and shoot weddings or pets or children in the neighborhood, not exactly glamorous photography work, so they are loosing interest.
I think this is the reason why Canon is in trouble, lack of understanding that 80% of 5D II buyers were amateurs living mirage of "FAME" on internet sites like Flickr, shelling thousands of dollars for semi pro cameras and lenses.
Well the dust is finally settling down after the digital explosion, now we will see whats next.

Some time a go (6-7 years?), I have bought on line simple sonic trigger, with just two adjusting knobs, one for gain (small computer microphone) and delay.
It was sold by Quaketronics.com, not sure if they are still available, but it worked fine for me.

Killer resolution! Can be used for some serious forensic or research applications, just think of super macro outcomes...
Have no idea how you people can still try to minimize this camera comparing it with 5DIII...

The upside is that, I just was able to spent some "Canon" money and got myself very nice brand new Sig Sauer 1911 Fastback- still almost enough money left for Nikon D800 
Now looks like there is no need to upgrade my Rebel also, how about a new bicycle?
Maybe there is an upside to the plain stupidity and greed out of control?

No question in my mind that Canon has listen to the most vocal group: wedding and small event photographers (like high school basket ball games).
It was tempting decision to, because was cheaper to develop that kind of hybrid with virtually same sensor but only with noise reduction software tweaks.
Question is if that was smart thing to do.
Success of 5D line was in my mind due to excited amateurs in millions around the world discovering that it is much funnier to be some mysterious photographer behind avatar on Flickr, collecting compliments, occasionally selling a photograph than bored house wife next to the stove.
We all will find out soon enough just how many of them will go somewhere else to get the dream camera even if it is that ignorant, unnecessary dirty "Megapixel Monster" as you are trying to make everybody to call it.

Considering that 5D II was available not long a go for about $1800, and obviously not every photographer got one even if they could afford it, how about $1600 to make me jump and maybe think for a moment about investing in 22 Mp and cheated JPEG high ISO performance body for some four years to come?

Many of users here are wedding or other small photography business owners ( easy to understand why) but success of the 5D in my mind was due to all advanced amateurs on steroids of Flickr like sites and instant "fame" coming out of it, brave enough to invest $2500 in the new camera body.
If Canon is listening only to this type of forums it may just miss the real target, with its cheated high ISO JPEG performance.
Constant rising prices, especially being greedy in basic features, (trust me, they will soon appear in other product for huge premium that Canon is making space for) may be short sighted, and next 5D can end up as just another elitist toy in the hands of professionals only.
I am very advanced amateur with gallery exhibitions in the past and able to function as professional in pretty broad range of photography.
For me plan for the next 5D was to only use for landscape photography with super wide angle lens, no system required at all, and just like my daily landscape walk around Rebel will be replaced with Nex 7 camera as soon as super wide lens will be available, 5D can be replaced as easy for anything else that is more appealing.
For every other needs with other lenses in my cabinet there will always be something like 7D (I hope)
Anyway, I am in a niche of course but, I have spent many thousands of dollars in the past with Canon! One would wonder if we in the small niches are important enough for business.
Something tells me that we better be important, because in the end every single photographer represents some very particular small niche, and all those single lost niches can and will add up in to something potentially serious.

Even if it's a let down, i would say canon still have its advantages from their lens system. Try and compare with Nikon lenses, you will find that varities is low and the pricing it much higher. I guess if the spec od the new 5Dx is lower as compared to D800, you may also find it hard to switch if you look at the whole big picture.
Agree that canon still has a few more unique lenses. None I consider essential for me though. I think Nikon's system is well stocked, and more importantly, continue to fill in gaps specially before the thai flood wrecked everybody's roadmap. Newer canon lenses such as the 24-70 and 70-200 have all been more expensive than their nikon twins. For me, they got all I'd need and a few lenses I wish I had in canon version so I don't feel held back at all by their lineup. The real reason I don't switch is because of the hassle and because I don't honestly care for what brand I advertise for free on my camera gear

Sometimes, I feel like all the opponents to the higher megapixel cameras, are people that have spent years of savings on 5D body and two or three lenses, and are terrified that they precious investment will become outdated/obsolete just like that, especially if new gen lenses will be needed to keep up with resolution.
Let's hope Canon will follow sound business instincts, and contribute or lead in creative development, instead listening to unreasonable childish fears of current camera owners.
The whole new, let's say "very bold" pricing thing from Canon is another story, and is potentially causing the same effect, making even professionals to think twice about some radical new upgrades.
