EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: How Do You Clean your sensor? And how often?
« on: February 24, 2013, 03:46:29 PM »
Thank you folks.   I especially liked the video. Good stuff all around. Probably will pick up the swabs combo for a few bucks and keep it handy. The butterfly brush seems awfully pricey for my needs, however. (Maybe I can modify a ten dollar electric toothbrush).

EOS Bodies - For Stills / How Do You Clean your sensor? And how often?
« on: February 23, 2013, 03:35:00 PM »
OK. Reading about the Nikon sensor issue, I wonder what is considered the easiest, safest, and all around most recommended (if any) way to clean my own sensor? I guess the Rocket Blower is the safest, but what if that doesn't get the stubborn specks off?

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Nikon finally Admits D600 Dust Problem
« on: February 23, 2013, 03:06:18 PM »
Being a Canon owner, I am unaware of this issue. Can somebody explain to me what is going on with the Nikon D600?

This lighting is tough. Please tell me what you did besides use natural light, if anything.  As a tv news photographer who constantly has to fight light, I am interested. For me, shade is my best friend, as long as there is no sun in the background.
I think the house was more interesting than the model, actually, and I like pretty girls. So that says a lot for the house.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Panic button - 1Dx

That camera is so sophisticated I am afraid if I bought one I would never be able to learn to use all of it's features.  You just pointed out something that is not at all in the instruction book, or any reviews. It's so customizable, apparently, it becomes unique to every pro.  I would probably buy one and then they would release the 40MB version for the same price, however. What then?

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Lens repair taking forever - option
« on: February 05, 2013, 02:33:15 PM »
You did not mention whether this is a warranty repair or not. If so, wait.  It will be, except for cosmetics, as good as new when it gets back. As would any replacement they send you.

EOS Bodies / Re: on the verge of buying, just need some final moral support
« on: February 04, 2013, 04:27:30 PM »
Determine what you want. Then buy it. Do you want a 1DX? I do. So I am saving up for it. If you want a 6D, buy it. If you want a better camera, buy that. It's just a matter of too much choice. If Canon only made three cameras, it would be so much simpler.  Sounds like you are going to buy the 6D, and maybe later you can get a 5d when they are closing them out. In this day of sensors, and no more film, it's only the lenses that hold their value, sadly.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Donating 20D to charity
« on: February 03, 2013, 03:23:57 PM »
I am thinking of donating my perfect condition 20D with it's modest non IS 18-55 kit lens.  What is it worth these days? It certainly still makes great pictures, and was serviced last year by Canon.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Times running out 5D Mk3 or 1DX
« on: February 03, 2013, 03:18:47 PM »
I almost bought the 5DmkIII this Christmas season, but decided I did not have the cash.  I can only hope the prices go down in spring. I will have time to think about spending twice as much for the 1DX in the meantime. They seem to be in two different worlds, but I know I would spend a very happy retirement enjoying the 1DX if I can bring myself to pay for it.  It would probably take me a few years to learn all it's tricks, and I would like learning something new each time I went out with it.  The 5D would be great as well, and maybe that will be the one. Since I drive a modest Ford Ranger, and don't spend money on new cars, I think I can bring myself to splurge on the camera I want. And that exotic 8-15 fisheye just to be crazy.

Site Information / Re: Moderators: You are Too Sensitive
« on: February 03, 2013, 03:08:21 PM »
I am in favor of the moderators rejecting posts that do not relate to Canon cameras or photography.  The deleted thread seemed to be only about the family problems of the poster, and made me feel quite uncomfortable seeing it here.  If my son dropped my lens or something, I might post asking about repair or selling for salvage, perhaps, but I certainly would not use this space to recreate my angry response to the accident. I really enjoy this forum, almost as much as I enjoy thumbing through Shutterbuy or Pop Photo.

Pricewatch Deals / Re: Deal: Canon EF 28 f/2.8 IS for $549 at Adorama

One of the first lenses I bought for my new Canon digital system was the 17-40 f4. I am covered for a mid wide. I am, however, thinking about that crazy 8mm.

Canon General / Re: Why did you choose Canon?
« on: January 29, 2013, 03:49:12 AM »
I shoot video news for a local television station. I see all the pro still news photogs shoot with Canons. Case closed. Plus, those wonderfully expensive white lenses are just lust-worthy.

Wonderful use of a 24mm lens for astronomy photos. Now I want that lens.

Third Party Manufacturers / Canon Counterfit .... Third party batteries
« on: January 21, 2013, 02:44:03 PM »
I see in today's front page that Canon is cracking down on counterfit Canon products.  I did not realize this was even an issue. What counterfit things are out there? On a second thought... are third party batteries as good as Canon batteries?
