Personally, its been pretty clear that canon doesnt know wtf to do with the mid range- clearly shown by the miniscule amount of AF points and other simple things missing from the 6D.

The 7d was ahead of its time, too bad the noisy sensor sucked. Its sill one of canons best bodies, especially from a usability standpoint.

Th 7d as it exists now, with just a sensor and af upgrade(for all the Af issues that i experienced and canon couldnt fix), would still be one of the most killer cameras out there.

Guaranteed that canon will push the price to 2k (or even 2300- cmon this is canon), they will leave out features that will make your head scratch (you dont need those), and we will be making comments like

"if it only had this thing here..."

After the feature butchering of the 6d, 60d (no afma), M (garbage focus, tiny battery, etc), g15 (upgraded to no swivel, killed my purchase)...i dotn have much faith in canon these days if its not a rebel or the high end.

So, with the same lens on each body and iso noise not being limiting...
Unfortunately, my experience with the 7D in environments where/when I commonly shoot birds is that ISO noise often is limiting, in particular for the high shutter speed often necessary.

For me (on 60d) the iso noise limit is in my head, that's the annoyance - next to exposure and framing I think about shutter speed/noise tradeoff all the time - either I get less keeper because of camera/motion blur, or the shots are crappy because of too much noise or too shallow dof.

Noise is not limiting when looking back at good shots, but few people state how many shots and opportunities they lost for a good one. That's why I'm really looking forward to a ff sensor. Realistically you can use higher iso even on crop when the final output size is not 100%, but for pixel-level 18mp iso800 is the absolute max that at least gives some air for postprocessing.

Below are a pair of 100% crops from shots at ISO 3200, one from the 1D X and one from the 7D.  I wonder which is which?   ::)

this is the best visual explanation ever. I DREAM of shooting 3200+ without worrying about the limits imposed by crop color noise in post. Besides the outer focus points, these are only my only concerns.

Anything would be better than the current 7d's sensor. iso 100 noise? check. mushy compared to rebels? check. Sold?

heck if they changed nothing, and gave it only a new sensor i would buy it again.

this is why i sold my 7d. Terrible focus....after it decided not to anymore. Was great at first.

and with no other canon body in its class, good luck with this one.

This camera has by far the WORST autofocus i have ever seen. It must take like 4-8 seconds to focus on something.

Shameful Canon, just shameful. And ergonomic it is not, with the hand grooves not as well placed like the g series. I was looking forward to a nice lil camera but i was appalled. The AF alone makes this pure garbage.

Buyer beware.

the page is getting crushed right now. all the little rebels have been gone since black friday. :(

I previewed the t4i again yesterday...besides the tiny buttons and tiny grip, its beginning to grow on me. the AF works great, and the fps aint shabby at all.

bring on the t5i!

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Help me upgrade my 550d

Skip the 7d (maybe)

I had both cameras, and just sold my 7d - so my t2i (get a grip!) is my workhorse at the moment until i replace the 7d. Everyone says that both cameras uses the same sensors, but there is a DRAMATIC iso noise difference if you are a pixel peeper. The 7d's images are a mush fest compared to the 550. The iq differences relate to how the 7d sensor pushes the highs, leading to wonderfully contrasted images. But look into those shadows...uh oh...the noise is ugly. 7d iso 100 noise alone should keep you away from it....its really really bad. So bad I sold my dearest.

IF you are a pixel peeper, stay away from 7d. If you are not, then go all in. Its a fabulous body. The handling, is just awesome..its an absolute pleasure to handle.

So I think your 550d focus issues possibly come from your lens (sigma? not surprising) and possibly technique. With both of my rebels my hit rates are north of 80 percent, and thats for fast moving people in the street with endless variety of lighting conditions.

I LOVE my t2i.

At the last fashion week, photogs kept asking me what body i was using, as it has the 70-200 2.8 mk ii attached to it...and i kept saying, dude, its a rebel....yup!

Last year i took the 7d to Singapore. This year, t2i all the way.

Toploader Pro AW 75

this can handle a small or large body (with out without a grip, and a 70-200 with hood reversed. works extremely well, i use it for street style an for events. the weather guard is a plus. with no body attached, it works well as a case, with all its great padding.

EOS Bodies / Re: 6D Review

This review is unfortunately very incomplete. You can still see all the areas he hijacked the 5d mark 3 review to fill in ares/make comparisons. Not enough of the old info is out of it.

Also the first same shot had a 5d3 listed in its metadata. a pre production camera should have ts info within it, - right?

At the mid point it becomes hard to read this because there's too much 5d review info strewn about it.

He does make it at least sound like a better cam than the specs point to, but not convinced yet. the chromatic aberration in body fix would b a HUGE boon though. Also to his point ,the af cant b any WORSE than the 5d mark 2.

Wow, $2,100 and Nikon doesn't even give you a full metal body?  I hope Canon isn't so cheap with the magnesium alloy.  You can get the 7D for $1200 and the body is a tank.  Hopefully the 6D will be the same. :-\

7D, built like a tank, but rebel-like IQ.  Even 650D is better.  :(

Nope, im shooting fashion week with a 'rebel' t2i- this rebel iq whoops 7d booty. Disclaimer- using the t2i because of image quality, and 7d is being retired, ready for trade in. Noisy POS.

7d autofocus? No thanks

Ive had the displeasure of owning this camera for over a year. Worst Af ive ever seen. If I was thinking about a possible 6d, lets just say im not any more :(

The 7D's AF is superb. Nuff said.  8)

well it USED to work. canon cant seem to fix it. so hence, the trade in. keeping it close by - not in use- for whenever an announcement is made. i hate the 7d. Glad your story isnt mile mine :(
