Even if real, the only way I'd consider the lens if it was:

- As sharp at f2 as the my f2 (and f1.8 was extremely sharp too)
- Under £800

I really don't see Canon replacing the original brilliant lens.

The old one is one of the cheapest L lenses out there. It's so good that I doubt the price will drop much unless the new one is the same price...which I doubt.

Can somebody explain to me as I'm confused. I'm seeing comments that the AF points still glow up red?

I have a 5D Mark II at the moment and want a 5D Mark III. When I move focus around the points glow red. When I focus on a point, it glows red before snapping the photo.

What's changed?

I personally think the $2400 value is the cost that they sell to retailers or distributors. The actual cost to make the product will be far less. This isn't a game console where they make money back on the games. They make a big chunk on the hardware itself.

If it is the cost to actually make the product, then it will include the R&D costs and the production line. Something that no doubt will decrease rapidly as the camera sells.

I personally don't think they can go on long selling it at the price it is. A $500 drop will come soon I think, especially with cheaper Nikon rival SLRs.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Did Canon criple the 5D Mark III sensor on purpose?

Judging by the 1D X samples, the high ISO performance is outstanding and a true 1 stop improvement over the 5D Mark III. Something that strikes me though is 4 Megapixels can't make that much difference.

Canon opted to put a nice new focus system in the 5D Mark III, but it seems to avoid people not buying the 1D X and pro's opting for a Mark III instead, they limited the ISO performance boost. With a boost there wouldn't be much between them but now the 1D X is more appealing with its ISO quality jump!!

EOS Bodies / Where will the next High MP Canon be positioned?

If rumours are correct, Canon are preparing a high MP camera later this year. The trouble is I have difficulty seeing which market they are going to go for:

1. 1D X price range with high MP
2. 5D Mark III price range.

If they opt for the latter, I can't see anyone buying a Mark III any more unless the Mark III had better noise or they limited the focus on the new High MP SLR, but then the Nikon would still be the best option. The biggest problem is the 5D Mark III noise and dynamic range, if they rocked on the Mark III, then there would be no worry but with virtually no improvement, what do Canon do?
