Two things: you didn't mention that it doesn't have as close-focusing a macro mode as the G12. Of course, one wouldn't expect this in a large sensor camera.
Also, you cane switch to a 3:2 format in the Function menu.
Otherwise, a fine succinct review.

  Sounds like a rumor you shouldn't have bothered with. GPS enabled but no 7d-like autofocus. Please! Eye controlled focus; there is probably a reason Canon abandoned it. Maybe it didn't work well in practice.

 :)Not APS-C but it does use the larger four thirds sensor, larger than the Nikon 1 series. The only disappointment for me is the f5.8 at telephoto.

I think we need to wait for something official. If it is 1/1,5, that would make it the same size as the Fuji x10 but still smaller than the Nikon V1. If it is 1.5", that that would make it quite a large sensor and something to celebrate, even without interchangeable lenses.

One thing I haven't noticed mentioned: does it have IS??

The G1X is going to be in much more direct competision with the X10 than it is the V1 though, similar product in a similar price range. Given that manifacturers have always shown alot of inertia in terms of sensor size with fixed lens digital it seems to make sense Canon is looking to equal the X10 then potentially depend on the brand name and superior funcationality to sell it.

$200 price difference isn't much in terms of competitiveness. But you could well be right. I hope not.

Great little review. I know that the main thing with a camera is IQ but since it now has GPS and 1080p movie mode, it would be nice to see how well it handles those functions as well. Did you try the GPS and how long did it take to "lock on to satellites? But, otherwise, kudos.

Should somebody be interested in my opinion regarding the new fisheye: it very strongly reminds me of Porsche 911 Turbo – it's a lens that everybody wants but nobody needs!
