EOS Bodies / Not long to wait.
« on: October 24, 2012, 11:08:47 AM »
I've just been browsing a UK photographic supplier that gives a release date for the Canon 6D of 20th November. Which is different than "early December.

http://www.fotosense.co.uk/canon-eos-6d-digital-slr-24-105mm-lens.html?fo_c=83&fo_k=6656cc9c261cb4da41ef03f882a4d19a&fo_s=webgains&source=webgains&siteid=10691

Looks like we'll be getting those reviews and comparisons sooner rather than later (always assuming the above date is correct)!

Just a word of warning. I don't think anyone should count on being able to choose between a new 6D and a new 5DII.

Once the 6D hits the shelves, expect the 5DII to disappear. At a minimum, all rebates and discounts on any remaining 5DIIs in dealers' stock will end and dealers will quit receiving any new shipments. Canon did a remarkable job of pulling the 580EXII and making it impossible to find. Expect the same with the 5DII.

Refurbished and used models will remain, but they could very well be selling for as much or more than new models are now going for.

It is not in Canon's best interests to allow consumers to choose between the 6D and a heavily discounted 5DII. By the time the 6D is available, your choices on the new market will be the 6D or the 5DIII.

Absolutely spot on. And the price for the few remaining 580EXII's in the UK seems to have increased.

Canon General / Re: How come Canon never responds to anything?
« on: October 13, 2012, 09:57:24 AM »
How come Canon, and a lot of big companies never explain or answer any questions.  Why make a new sensor for the 6D when everyone was hoping for the same 5DIII sensor?   Why limit the video compression?  etc. etc..
Are there good reasons or are they just protecting other lines and/or money, as everyone keeps on guessing.

McDonalds answered this one:
why don't the hamburgers you get, look like the photos?
Behind the scenes at a McDonald's photo shoot

What a strange idea! Are you under the misaprehension that just because you voice some concern or question in this forum Canon is going to answer it?

Have you addressed your questions directly to Canon and they have ignored you? This is merely a talking shop where we all whinge and moan at each other. The last thing we expect is that Canon actually read the forums and respond to questions, suggestions and critical comments.

4000€ in my wallet want to be spent...

Does anybody know. if the AF of the 6D is FAST too, or just accurate at low light?
How can someone know? 6D is an imaginary camera for now. Although I guess Canon cannot tolerate postponing it for many months (D600 being the reason. Ins't competition nice?)
Are you starting from scratch?
In that case you could go for the kit 5DIII and 24-105 f/4L IS.

It is possible to get it in Europe for 4000 euros

Not true, i tried it on the Photokina there were 6 6D's to try, also here inteh Netherlands there are pro workshops where you can also try the 6D. And yes i know for sure it is there and yes i really had an 6D in y hands and played with it for almost one hour!

Presumably you may be in a position to answer the questions raised regarding the AF, since you say you played with it for almost an hour.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS 7D Mark II Rumors Surface [CR1]

Just back from two weeks vacation and catching up with all the rumours.

It's comforting to see that nothing changes much here. Yet more complaints, moans and hysteria about another camera that hasn't seen the light of day yet (if it ever does). There isn't even a credible spec yet and already we have the usual suspects complaining that it's under-specified, or it's not exactly what they want.

You guys must all have crystal balls. Why don't you take a day off from griping and go take some photographs?

That's funny!

Welcome home.

Thanks   ;D

What really sucks is they flaunt some of the features that should have EASILY been included on the 5D Mark III.  I went out and bought that separate GPS since I do a lot of hiking for $279.  They could have included the wireless feature as they do with the 6D

Come off it! If they had done all that you and others would have been grumbling about "all the plastic" in your 5D III's. Either that or the price would have been even higher. Some of this whinging about the 6D is beginning to sound like sour grapes.

What do you want to see on a 7DII?

-PW

Whatever you get (if you ever get it) will not satisfy the guys on here. Or it'll be too expensive for what's on offer.

EOS Bodies / Re: POLL: With what features would you consider the 6d?
« on: September 19, 2012, 11:32:24 AM »
For me all it needs is at least an AF system with all 11 points being cross type or a 7D type AF system.

Dual CF/SD card slots would be brilliant, but I could live without it.

This is the exact camera I was hoping for, everything is pretty much perfect, it would be the perfect upgrade from my 60D. But the stupid AF system has put me off it so much. I may as well just save money and get a 5D Mark II.

So. how exactly will you be better off with a 5D MkII (apart from the fact it's cheaper)? Or is that a typo and yoy mean 5D MkIII?

EOS Bodies / Re: Who really is the target demographic for the 6D?
« on: September 19, 2012, 11:24:40 AM »
So, to cut to the chase, the target demographic is the xxD/xxxD shooter who likes to take landscape/travel photos and/or shoot HD video. Undoubtedly these are the people that Canon Inc. is targeting with this new DSLR

Finally, as an additional boon to Canon, by pricing this new camera above two thousand dollars, they also achieve a 3rd objective - they've persuaded many other xD owners (5Dc/5D2/7D) who are considering upgrading their body to bite the bullet and pay up for a new 5D mark III.

Spot on!

Either way it's going to sell like hotcakes.

To whom, exactly?

n00bs, students, parents?

Just because somebody buys doesn't mean they don't know what they're doing. A body is only one piece in a whole ecosystem. The GPS and Wifi might be nice to have integrated and you can complain all you want about the specs but it's not really that bad. There's a couple things that would of been nice to have but I'm sure this camera will take some great pictures.

And that's it in a nutshell!

As an impartial observer, I'm wondering just who are the people doing most of the complaining?
5D MkIII users, I don't really understand those users bitching. After all they are definitely not the target buyers for this camera? Maybe they are annoyed about the built in WiFi and GPS, not being on the MkIII?
Is it current 7D users, disappointed that this isn't the 7D2 they were hoping/expecting?
Is it current 5DMkII users who can't afford a MkIII? They may well have some legitimate cause to comment negatively.

Or are a large number Nikon "trolls", always happy to have a go at Canon?

The fact remains that the people likely to use this camera will neither be pros or semi-pros, and it ought to be accepted that this camera is not for them. They are are, of course, perfectly able to express an opinion re the shortcomings regarding Canon's pricing and design philosphy and the debate is all the more interesting for that.
However, to damn a camera on the basis of it's perceived lack of, or perceived poor features, is a bit premature since nobody has yet had their hands an one to write a review.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: EOS 6D sample images and video here
« on: September 17, 2012, 08:34:53 AM »
Well, I can say that Image 5 (Portrait at ISO 200) is a definite win. I rate it at 10/10.  ;)

if you rate that portrait at 10/10 how you rate this one (made with Nikon D600):

http://chsvimg.nikon.com/lineup/dslr/d600/img/sample01/img_02_l.jpg

12 out of ten????

from the first samples available ( Canon 6D and Nikon D600 ) Nikon CLEARLY wins.

I am a Canon fun and use Canon gear from many years... but i must admit... in this  days Nikon is better.

My personal preference is to see all the face in focus.

On a positive note, the presence of internal WiFi would probably compensate for the lack of an articulating screen. If Canon are smart, they would release a free software for PCs and mobile devices to enable full liveview control via a wireless connection.

Which is exactly what they have "done".  :)
