EOS Bodies / Getting a bit restless at the lack of 1DX rumors
« on: May 17, 2012, 02:46:20 PM »
So the last official statement on the Canon 1D-X availability was mid June, and since then there hasn't been any updates, either official or even rumored .. Keith Cooper did mention he got a few indications it might be slipping into July but other then that it's been quiet.

With the announced launch date aprox 4 weeks away I was hoping there'd be at least some signals towards that, but the eerie silence is making me uncomfortable - I've got some projects this summer that I would love to use it for and so far my hopes of it being available in time have been raised and crushed time after time .. it's starting to feel way to much like an abusive relationship over here!

So while I know that there's no news to share at the moment .. any projections or past experiences that can satisfy my craving to hear at least something? :)

Lenses / Re: Canon EF 35mm 1'4L USM or 50mm 1'2L USM for weddings
« on: May 15, 2012, 12:27:02 PM »
They're both fantastic lenses with fantastic IQ, color, sharpness etc - however the 50 1.2 has a bit more CA, vignetting and I do end up missing focus with it more often then with the 35L - so purely on lens performance I'd highly recommend the 35L over the 50L.

Lenses / Re: Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L Officially Discontinued?
« on: May 15, 2012, 12:25:22 PM »
There's entirely to much waiting for new products for my comfort level - I've had the 24-70 II and 1DX on pre-order from the moment they were open for them, and while I'm sure CR appreciates the views they get from me neurotically checking on news about them daily, I would much prefer actually using them :)

I do know that the next lens announcement I'll be a whole lot more skeptical and careful about wanting it

The 50D is a crop sensor so it's not actually using the light from the corners of the lens - which would hide any vignetting - on a full frame sensor like the 5D Mark III on the other hand it does use the entire lens surface, so some extra vignetting is to be expected.

When you say 'bad' I don't really know how to judge that - if you mean that you notice it more then on the 5Dmk3, then that's to be expected and not an issue at all (and the lens correction in lightroom will clean that up nicely), however if you mean bad then that could be a lens issue - for now my guess would be that it's just the first time you're seeing the vignetting on the lens though without expecting it, and there's really no issue.

Lenses / Re: Infinity focus in manual mode

On a lot of lenses (ie: all my canon ones, but many others as well) you'll notice that on the distance indicator there's an infinity symbol at the end, and a little white line just before it (about 1/4 inch long often)

The beginning of that little white line is what you want to use to get everything sharp - going all the way to the infinity symbol means that only things at infinity are sharp (ie: nothing:).

Lenses / Re: Blank slate 5D3 lens lineup help
« on: April 15, 2012, 10:15:12 PM »
I've got a pretty extensive lens lineup (3 zooms, 8 or so primes) and when ever I'm carrying around my gear all day and I'm shooting architecture or landscapes I tend to take my 14mm f/2.8 II, 35 f/1.4 and 135 f/2.0.

If I know it's more people focused I'll substitute the 14 for the 24 f/1.4.

They're all incredibly sharp, great saturation, quick focus, amazing quality lenses that give you a really fantastic range effects to go for.

In your case since you have the 100mm I'd imagine that 24/35/100 if you photograph people, or 14/35/100 if you like the dramatic effect of the 14mm on landscapes and/or architecture would be a really enjoyable setup.

Alternatively I also never get bored walking around with just a 70-200 f/2.8 II all day - so that might also be an option to consider

What you're saying is: this is going to be an expensive year :)

Looking forward to all the new goodies, already pre-ordered the new 24-70 II, and can't wait to pre-order the 1D X - lots of fun stuff happening already and by the sound of things 'we've only just begun'

Does anyone have any info on if CPS platinum members have been invited to the mentioned priority purchase? I called CPS membership services and they had no information on such a thing going on

EOS Bodies / Where to buy the to be announced body(s)?
« on: August 10, 2011, 11:48:03 AM »
Like many members of canonrumors I'm super eager to get my hands on the new 1D mk V if/when it's announced.

But I also know it takes a while to get from announcement to general availability - so I'm wondering what your tactic has been to get one as soon as possible?

Order it from canon direct? Amazon? Local camera shops?
