The 1D Cinema with 4k already offers the extra reach and crispness natively, it's the 5D3 video that desperately could actually make use of the crop mode!

This 1D camera doesn't exist, yet. Everything about it is pure speculation. Still, I'm tired of hearing people complain about the 5DIII not having this or that. When will you realize that this is a DSLR, not a pro video cam and it cost ONLY 3500$. Yes, only 3500$. Which is nothing for pro video guys.

A 5DIII is not design to be the ultimate video camera. Even if Nikon has something more than the 5DIII doesn't mean Canon has to do it just like Nikon is not forced to copy stuff from Canon. A 5DIII is only a 5D... it will always be inferior in quality to the 1 series in video mode and will always be inferior to true video cameras.

My favorite thing to photograph is BIF, so it's counter intuitive, I know. I don't even care for my 70-200 f2.8L IS ii USM because it doesn't have enough reach and is too heavy for carrying around, but doesn't do low light enough for crop.

Then get a 400 2.8 v1 :) ~ I have one and on a crop body it's awesome hehe

I almost want to wait for a 1dx II w/ f8 focusing.

If you can wait, why not?
I have a 1DII and i'm waiting for a 1Dx. The 7D is much newer than the 1DII so it should work until the 1DxII.

A super video camera? I don't care... But it will probably be out before the 1Dx...

So i guess you ordered from Lozeau?  I am in Montreal too...

Nop, Photo Service. Lozeau didn't want to take my pre-order since the camera was "not in their system" yet. They could not write names down on a piece of paper until it was so I went elsewhere. That's what happens to a store that becomes too big.

Are you a CPS member?

They never asked me.
But no, I am not.

Since I pre-ordered the camera back in October, I never called back to the store to get an update on my future 1Dx. So, I sent them an email today... They called me back quickly. This store is located in Montreal Canada, so am I...

Basically, the sales rep tells me that the latest info he has from Canon puts the camera out in June. It might be mid June or the end of June but definitively in June...

By then, It might be worth waiting for the 1DxII, most these cameras have a 3y cycle so it would put the II a bit more than 2y laters... </sarcasm>

It's been so long since the announcement that Canon USA thinks the camera is already out and old news... :P

what annoys me about this is the lack of official information.

Yes. Especially since Canon told us that the camera was announced very early to get feedback from pros. Well... Did you get enough feedback in nearly 6 months? What about keeping those same pros updated on the situation?

It's cool an everything to tell people what is coming ahead but you at least have to tell them when they can get the stuff... so they can plan a little.

It can't be because of accessories... I mean, the 5D3 is out and the gps, wireless and even the grip is nowhere to be found. Dammit... Get it out already. My baby girl will be born soon and she was conceived after the 1Dx announcement....

This is very interesting... I didn't compare them to the 5DIII images but they are definitively better looking than my 1DII images @ 3200, 5400 and 12k+ ;)

It's improved to about the level of the 7D, from what I've read.  Still short of 1-series build by a significant margin.

I've always admired the build quality of my 1DII. I could trust this camera with whatever I would throw at it. One major less thing to worry about, you know the camera is gonna work. This is worth a lot of money for me.

I do a bit of everything... And I mostly don't want to care if I can take a shot or not. Rain, snow, dirt, tight spaces or zip line... If I can go, I want the camera to follow :)
