EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Canon EOS-1D X DXOMark Sensor Scores

... The 1d X lacks the f8 focusing and the superlow light af lock and red lit up points. Those things doesn't matter to me, and everything else it just doesn't do better than anything else, it does it to perfection. A real tool I can trust for 100% of my pictures. Only eyes will capture a moment better..
Unless the camera is in the high-speed mode  ;)

Chill Dtaylor.... you can't bully people into agreeing with you...
I find this thread the most interesting on the whole forum, so please don't draw them away from sharing valuable information on how things really work in camera world!  8)
There's so much new one can get just by reading these posts, that I don't want this to stop  ;D

Nice color and composition.  Was this a planned shoot?
No, it wasn't  :)  I was lucky to catch the moment when my wife was showing a butterfly on her hand and in the same time to compose the forground and the background fontain  ;D

Personally I find 24mm great for landscapes, but useless for people photography. I mainly shoot people and simply don't like the look it provides.

I don't understand why vignetting is bothering you, it is easily fixeable:

Here you can compare the difference between vignetting of 24 1.4 II and 24-70 2.8 II: The-Digital-Picture.com Comparison

Just choose the focal length you like most and buy it. I don't know why vignetting is a problem for you, you can use lens profile to remove it or leave there to draw attention to the image center  :)

They look too flat and too sharp to me. I believe you can easily fix this in your editing software.

I am interested in the "too sharp" part of what you said. I have done nothing to sharpen them. That is straight out of the can. Are you suggseting that I might soften them?

As to the flat bit... does this look any less flat:

...

Unfortunately, you can see more signs of the building work hidden amongst the trees! I really appreciate all of this feedback because it helps me get these looking better!

I will also be back there on a better light day... but perhaps not now until next spring!

Cheers

Richard
It seems CR forum makes something with sharpness when you add your pictures from Flickr here. When I said "flat" I was referring to main point of attention in the photo, nothing could "catch" my eye. And please don't use shadows push so much  ;)

The video looks great to me  ;). Though there's much noise in the audio from time to time.

It might have been that kind of situation when photographer works three days in a row, 14 hours per day. Though it's not acceptable to miss those shots.

It might work for us or might not. Let's just see how it turns out in the end.

On some shots I've found skin tone too orange, on some others I've found it non-consistent with others. Also I believe focal length is not optimal for specific shots.

Gary,

Thanks for starting this thread, it is my favorite of the year !!!!

Group in general,

I find that these photos have an amazing realism to them, more so than almost all other images I have viewed on the internet.  The subjects look 'alive' and in 3 dimensions, much more than just photographs.

The examples here are from several different photographers, different lighting, different kinds of subjects, etc.  but almost all of them have this 'alive' quality that I don't see very often.  Can one conclude that the camera used has more 'magic'?  Is there some common thread in the post processing?  Does this Canon Rumors forum site present photographs with a different level of quality than other sites?  Something else?

I am anxious to hear your views, as I have only been dipping my toe in the DSLR waters for the past 2 years, (when the work schedule allows).  I have not seen anything from my EOS 7D that approaches the photographs here.  Needless to say, they intrigue me.

Thanks,

Mark
It's combination of a camera, lens and photographer. If you give the camera to a newbie, you won't be able to achieve much difference. Though, there is something in the color rendition that the camera is abe to do, feeling the lighting conditions and getting the right moment from the best perspective is more important.

Here is my son walking down the aisle. I do realize that the picture could be aligned better vertically but either way its for an example of the lighting I struggled with. She was right behind me here but I wanted pics since my whole family was in it.
This shot is very good. Don't think that vertical alignment will do better job here, because you'll loose the dynamic feeling that makes it more than just a snapshot.

P.S. For better composition from my point of view it would be great to have some space where the boy is going to put his leg  ;)
