1200mm f5.6 is a wide angle compared to the Canon 5200mm F14 Prime Lens. Yea, it's a mirror lens, but it's still 5200mm.  5200mm Canon Lens World's MOST powerful Super telephoto EF FD (updated upload)

Id love this for shooting weddings from home. :D

I use it for Photobooth type shots at receptions.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS 5D Mark III Recall?

I commend Canon for putting the kabosh on sales for the sake of not letting their name get muddied by unhappy owners. I think the 1dm3 debacle has taught them that the PR cost them too much during that situation and the upfront cost is worth it. I do feel bad for those who finally ordered or are still waiting, that just sux but no where near as much as screwing up a photoshoot for a paying client. I get a great reward using the 5dm3 but i do have to shoot a little diff with diff lenses with the knowledge of getting the best outcome from varying lenses. Even though I really like it if they do a recall for mine too i will send it and Canon Professional Services will take care of me.

UPDATE:
RRS is recalling all the 5d3 plates and will offer a shipping label to you and the replacements will take a couple weeks. I will be getting my shipping label from them to send the one I ordered and will be getting today.

And the most photographed animal in the world! The Token Cat photo, never thought i'd post a cat photo but it's El TIgre and he is a cool cat! He stayed by us for prob 4 hrs strait out there.

No, no, no, you're doing it wrong. Cat photos are taken with cell phones and are heavily back lit.

They're also meant to be blurry all over :P.

Haha, he's giving me the paw too. He was really curious about the camera whenever i pointed it his direction. Shoulda taken it with my far superior iPhone optics.

Just spoke with Mark from RRS. He said he'll take a look into this issue and report it to the necessary peoples. I'll keep you guys updated as I get more information.
I guess i shouldn't call them...I guess i want to confirm it can be returned USPS without charge...

UPDATE: Just called them and they aren't talkin, he said i can only tell you its being looked into. I will end up paying shipping costs to return it. GRRR.

Rather than additional new flashes I would like to get from Canon a reasonably priced (i.e. 49,- USD) RT-receiver for all existing slve-enabled EX-flashes ... 270 EX II, 320EX, 380EX, 430EX/II, 580EX/II.
Most of us already paid for Canon speedlites!

And Canon better go back to the drawing board and design a fully-specced ST-E3-RT Mk. II with a hologram laser-AF-illuminator ... for a reasonable 149,- USD.
LOL

On a more serious note as mention in other thread i would love to see a feature whereby we can highlight the focused area when shooting in live view...
not sure i get what you mean JR...

Maybe I'll pocket enough to go towards a 70-200/4 IS that's calling my freaking name!!

Now that is a good glass that is also calling me!  I will likely get it eventually....especially for summer shooting where I am more outside then during the winter...
No comprendo, u have the best at the same focal lengths already...70-200mm f2.8L IS II.

Great work, Tim! The 5DIII handles great and is a pleasure to use. IMHO, this is one of the most important elements of a camera when shooting, but unfortunately this seems to get lost in all the squabbling about DR.

Thanks man! BTW I love your work.

I really don't understand how the DR is lacking. If I want to bump up the fill light to 100 I can, and its usable.

I never even noticed any banding on my MK2.

Oh, and with the 70-200 2.8 is in bright day light, focus is literally instantaneous. It focuses in the time it takes me to push the button all the way down.

Thanks!

I stepped up from a 5DC to a 5DIII, so for me there has been a nice improvement in DR. The instances where I need more DR than this camera can offer will be few and far between, and of course there will be measures in the field I can take to work within these limitations.

The more I shoot with this thing, the more I like it. Everything form the reduced shutter lag to the lightning fast AF to the sound of the shutter itself makes it feel like a more substantial camera. My gut reaction to the C1/C2/C3 settings on the the dial was that they were a gimmick, but I'm finding them quite useful.

I was shooting cars on a track a few weeks back with a 1DII, and was waiting to get some shots of one car in particular coming around a corner. During the downtime, I shot statics of the crowd, parked cars, people working on their cars, etc. When the car I was waiting for finally got on track, I had to switch from single shot to high speed continuous shooting, flip the AF from one shot to AI Servo, change from full manual to shutter speed priority, adjust the ISO, and lock in the shutter speed where I wanted it in a matter of seconds. That's a lot of menus to flip through on a 1D, which increases the potential of missing a shot. On the other hand, the ability to change everything at the flip of a dial on the 5DIII is awesome. It's something that will never show up on a lab test, but I'm sure many shooters will appreciate the added user friendliness.

Great point. I've actually never used the C1 2 and 3 dials. Doing weddings, I've never really had a need to do too many changing of settings like that real fast.

As for the improved shutter response, I have to get used to that! I think the button is more sensitive. On more than one occasion i've just wanted to lock focus and i accidentally took a photo. Not saying its bad, it just takes some adjusting. Just like the different location for the zoom button. It took me a while of playing with the camera to get used to it. I'm finally hitting the right button to zoom, and now when i pick up my 5d2, i keep hitting the wrong thing!! I've gotten too used to the new camera! Just cant win!!  :)
You might want to try programing the "set" button to zoom to focus point, works great. The left side of the camera is hard to get buttons right by feel, i seem to hit the rate button alot. I just set mine that way. For weddings i have C2 set for receptions with Manual with flash among other things. C3 set to receptions no flash, meaning Manual with huge apertures of 1.8 to start and auto iso as well as other features.C1 set to Aperture Priority and other functions. This will be quite useful. Hopefully we can program how we want our flash to operate in custom functions some day with a firmware update.

EOS Bodies / Re: How many actuations on your Canons?

On May 6th, next month i will shoot approx. 10,000 images in that day alone. I have a marathon to shoot and hired 5 other guys that usually bring in 7-10,000 also. There are around 8,000 participants and we try to get 2 or 3 of each person if possible. Of course we miss people but we try.

Yikes. That's A LOT of photos!!!
Ha! The real ouch will be with my eyes from going thru 60,000 images in a weeks time while living on monster energy drink lol.

I take my hat off to you on that one!  My wife did some jobs last year which each involved shooting between 5000 and 6000 images in 5 days each.  Living with her while she was doing the post work was a challenge!  Shooting over 1000 images per day with a gripped 5DII, 70-200mm f/2.8 and 580EXII for 5 days also did wonders for her upper body muscle tone!

 ;D

Discovered a new quirk in the firmware. I set my set button for zooming to the focus point. Funny thing is i set it on all my c1, c2, c3 and regular camera settings to zoom to the Focus point and it only zooms in if i am in a c function. When i am in manual or any other regular shooting style it doesn't zoom.
Going to write Canon now.

Remind me never to buy a body from any of you. :)
LOL! I tried parting with my 1dm3 to get another 5dm3 but i couldn't get enough for it and it is a heck of a lot more valuable to me than some shmo asking how many actuations before buying it haha. Beside The internals getting replaced pretty much means new every time because my body has minimal scuffing, looks new cept the bottom where i used to attach my monopod, now i use a RRS plate and Tilt head. All the buttons and dials are D series quality, still about as snappy and responsive as when i bought it new in 2007. :D
