My username comes from a name I made up to use in a book I was writing back in 1988, I was about 150-200 pages into the story... when the manuscript was lost due to a Microsoft OS update that broke Word Perfect. I had the latest version of WP, but the new OS broke it, reinstalls of WP didn't help, and MS wouldn't allow an older version of the OS to be reinstalled. At the time I didn't know anyone else who owned a computer, and the HDD controller on my computer was for a HDD type no longer made at the time MS broke WP. So I couldn't just swap in a new drive (expensive at the time) and reinstall the old OS. Supposedly Microsoft Word was able to read WP files, but when I tried it, as I recall, it corrupted the original file. 2 years of work down the drain thanks to MS. The Character still lives on in my user name. Wrath is pretty self explanatory, and wilde is a nod to the literary genius of Oscar Wilde.  The Avatar is a nod to my family coat of arms.

I’ve also heard through the grapevine that Canon USA wasn’t all too happy with the EOS-3 with a 46.1mp sensor articles that popped up not too long ago.

Maybe they just weren't happy that you were calling their new baby a "Hoax hoax hoax".

If they are smart... no. What they need to do is free up their design teams to create truly outstanding products, and stop trying to protect divisions from cannibalizing each others sales... so that they can start eating their competitors for lunch. Create a truly advanced product, that isn't intentionally crippled, at a reasonable price, and people will be throwing money at them. Continue to try and protect every product in the stable, at every price point, and you put yourself in the position they are today... overpriced incremental improvements that won't ship in large enough volumes to help the bottom line. Now is the time when Canon needs to start investing heavily in R&D and bleeding edge manufacturing technology to turn their fortunes around (actually they needed to start doing that about 3 years ago). They may have to start partnering with other fab houses in the near term though to keep competitive for the next 4-5 years until they can retool their facilities for state of the art chip manufacturing again. I'm sure they have designs waiting in the wings that would take advantage of current state of the art manufacturing, but I'm pretty sure that management has been reluctant to partner with independent fabs who currently have the technology to implement it, and have been reluctant to update their own fabs out of sheer bloodymindedness and denial about how far behind they were falling.

First thing that comes to my mind: why would the company offer you to buy equipment instead of just giving you cash?

Probably for tax reasons, since it's his employer giving it to him, the money would be taxable. However, if the company bought $8000 of camera equipment, and decided "they didn't need it", and gave it to an employee, the employee wouldn't be liable for taxes on $8000.

They are a software development company who need to test all the bodies and lenses EXACTLY so as to include profiles for them in their software. That's what they do.
And the test results are a byproduct.

Exactly, I may not agree with their using print DR, or their overall score methodology, but their testing is very exacting, and their raw numbers are probably more accurate than anything else you're likely to find on the web.

If their testing was as bad, or inaccurate as the haters here claim, the DxO Optics Pro software would be a steaming pile of dung that couldn't do anything but degrade the original image. It's not. It's an amazing piece of kit that owes its impressive performance to the fact that DxO's testing is exceedingly accurate. Like it or not, the raw numbers don't lie... although the scoring definitely seems to favor Nikon's strengths.

Read the article (glorified press release) over at imaging resource. Additions include a total of 396 new lens modules, of which some 224 are specific to newly-added cameras: 106 for the Canon EOS-1D X.

This means that DXO mark testing for the 1D X has probably been complete for some time, will they ever release the numbers, or are they just trying to avoid the S___ storm that's likely to ensue when (and if) they do?

Ok, I'll play. Here are the features/specs I'd be willing to bet on.

Single Processor, Digic 5+ (dual chip is just an added expense, a single 5+ is more than capable)
Single CF card slot (2nd slot = added expense, and pros that use the 7D as a 2nd camera will want compatible cards)

That's it, the two specs I'm willing to bet on.

What I'd like in a 7D Mark II...

New sensor tech, still @ 18mp, better ISO performance (low and high)
The same AF sensor and metering as the 5D3
No pop up flash, but a built in lowlight autofocus assist, and built in radio trigger and control for new Canon Flashes.
Locking Dial.

That's it, that's what would get me to upgrade from a 7D to a 7D2. An AF sensor that covers almost the entire frame when used with Canon EF lenses would be huge, when the camera senses an EF-S lens it could disable the outer points.

I don't want GPS. WiFi, I can take or leave. I really don't care about video, I absolutely don't want a swivel or touch screen.

Its a new type of body,looks like a mini 1DX

I would love it if it had the same body size as the Canon T90, that camera was the perfect size! Bigger than the 5D3, but smaller than a 1D X.

He obviously had to settle for a Nikon camera, no 1D X owner is going to chance having to run down Bolt to get their camera back. Although if he had snagged a 1D X... The photographer chasing him would have given Bolt the closest race of his life.

Does the added battery in the battery grips help drive the autofocus faster in the 7d & 5d3? Tried searching google but just came up with noise that didn't answer the question, just had all the search words. Anybody know if the grips help drive the lenses any faster?
