I don't understand why some of you even give a $4!t about what the hood "looks" like.

It's just the hood, people!  ;) ;D

I just spoke with Adorama and they expect to start shipping pre-orders to customers next week.

I had paid for faster shipping so hopefully I'll be receiving it next week..... would be great if it was earlier.

WOOH HOO!  It's about time.

I preordered on 2/7/12.  Never waited so friggin' long for anything :)

My copy of the original 24-70mm f/2.8 was great for the first few years but then became soft unless I stopped down to around 5.6 which is unacceptable IMO.

Sent it in to get calibrated 3 times.  First CPS who actually made it worse so I sent it back and it was a "little" better.  About 6 months later it started getting soft again.  I could't stand it so sent it to a very reputable guy in NJ who is an ex-Canon employee and is well known for his excellent work on Canon gear, especially lenses.  I got it back and it was good again but not quite as good as when I first purchased.  I knew it wouldn't last so when the vII was announced, I sold it on ebay.

I hope this long fricken' wait is worth it.

My EF 24-70 II is very sharp and you can focus very quick with it.

But I don“t know how big are the fabrication tolerances from Canon.

You have one already !?!?

Where are you located?  The United States?  If so, which state?  Where did you get the lens from?

Just wonder when I'll get mine from Adorama.

Lenses / Re: How to complete my lens lineup? Help!

Well, of course it's nearly impossible to recommend lenses when I don't know what and how you intend to shoot with them.

+1 on that

What lenses you have/need totally depend on what you shoot and what look you're going for.  Otherwise you're just blowing money for the heck of it.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Received my Refurb EOS 5D2 from Canon CLP
« on: September 02, 2012, 02:14:39 AM »
I have a couple of DSLRs that are probably out of warranty. Or is it limited to point and shoot only? I dont now what's wrong but I cant seem to be fine the CLP page on Canon USA's website. I know I saw it once, someone posted a link in the forums. Any of you know the link to that page? Would really appreciate it. Thanks :)

Look on Canon's site for their refurbished cameras and if you find something interesting you need to call and find out if (1) it's in actually stock and (2) if it qualifies for the 20% loyalty program discount.  Some cameras won't qualify.

Phone # is:  1-866-443-8002

You also pay shipping and tax (if required) on the refurb camera you purchase.  Any old Canon camera can be traded in... SLR, point-n-shoot, digital, film.....  not sure but I think it needs to be broken. Of course you can always find any old camera and break it if you need to :)  Or find one in a pawn shop or wherever.

I also purchased the Tamron, used it for one wedding and returned it because it wasn't that sharp at 2.8 and also slow to focus.

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Your Ultimate Gear (wish)list

Some of this stuff I already have.  I shoot professionally, so like to have my bases covered with multiple and backup bodies.  I also often use off camera flash.

> Three 5D Mark III bodies
> 35mm f/1.4L
> 50mm f/1.2L
> 85mm f/1.2L
> 100mm f/2.8L IS macro
> 16-35mm f/2.8L II
> 24-70mm f/2.8L II
> 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II
> Four 600EX-RT speedlights

Honestly don't have any real interest in having the 1DX.

Now if I could only win the lottery  ;D

Lenses / Re: *UPDATE* Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L II Pushed Back to October?
« on: August 30, 2012, 01:04:28 PM »
Update:

Canon (CPS) told me a few minutes ago, that Canon delivers the EF 24-70 II until next week from the europe stock to the CPS merchants.

If this really happens. We will see.

I hope that this also means US dealers will get the lens next week and begin shipping to people (like myself) who pre-ordered.
I've got a bunch of jobs coming up in Sep & Oct where this lens would be really useful.

I've always thought that if a deal looked too good to be true then there's probably something wrong.

I would never risk buying a high-end piece of gear from anywhere but a reputable dealer.  Especially if it's a camera and you're a pro who depends on it for work.  Just my 2 cents.

I use Sandisk 32GB for both CF and SD in my 5D Mark III.

Are you writing full RAW, mRAW, sRAW or JPG to both cards or some RAW size to one and JPG to the other or maybe JPG to both?
