Are you sure you're outside the minimum focus distance for the lens you're using?

In that video with the 50/1.8, it looks like you're fairly close to those pens/pencils.

I'd be interested to know how many of the mk3 bashers here actually own or have used one?  Just saying

Looks like the $3399 price is gone and it's back up to the same price B&H is selling it for.  At least it gives me hope that the price will come down at least a little and maybe sooner than I thought.

Whether or not a retailer charges out-of-state taxes or not doesn't matter to me since in California we still have to pay a Sales/Use Tax for business expenses and since this would be for my business, well...

EOS Bodies / Buying 5D Mark III from Amazon???

I just saw that Amazon has the 5D III selling for $3399 which is about $100 less than most reputable dealers.  Anyone buy expensive gear from Amazon and want to share your experience - good or bad?

Another thing - I thought I'd give that new Tamron 24-70 with VC/IS a try thinking maybe it could be a great lens and I could save about a grand.  I bought one from B&H, used it for one wedding and didn't really like it so I returned it for a refund.  It's a decent lens, but not that sharp and the focus is slow.  Probably a good choice for most casual shooters but not for professional use, IMHO.

Was your problem w/ the Tamron that it wasn't sharp at all (at what apertures?), or not across the whole picture? And concerning the af: Did you find it just to be slow, but precise, or both - and in what lighting conditions?

I didn't say "it wasn't sharp at all" but it's not as sharp as my old 24-70 was when I first got it.  Unfortunately after a few years of getting good use out of it, the sharpness just went away (especially at wide apertures).  I tried getting it re-calibrated three times - three times from Canon and once from a respectable service center but it was never the same.

The focus seemed accurate but it was slow in any light compared to my other lenses except the 85/1.2 which I think is slow because of the big hunk of glass it has.  This is on a 5D II and in addition to the 85/1.2L, I have a 35/1.4L, 16-35/2.8L, 70-200/2.8L IS, 50/1.8 and 100/2.8L IS.

I'm another person who sold my original 24-70 shortly after the version II was announced because it was so damn unreliable - soft at wide apertures all the way through f/4.  Just could not depend on it for jobs.  The new lens was supposed to ship about 2 months after announced so I was willing to wait.... but not this frickin' long.  Really PO'd that Canon hasn't started shipping this lens yet BUT they have been able to get the new 24mm, 28mm and 40mm lenses out.  WTF Canon!  >:(

Not impressed by these sample images.  Feeling like they're just snapshots without any aim for really testing the lens.  Also, it's probably still a prototype version.  My version 1 of the 24-70 was great when I first bought it, but after a few years of heavy use it really started becoming unreliable and more than half the images shot with it were soft.  Sent it in 3 times to get re-calibrated but it continued to just s_ck  :(

I have the version II on pre-order and wish Canon would get to shipping them.  When announced, it was supposed to start shipping in April, for cryin' out loud!

This news bites  :(

I was really looking forward to getting this lens before some jobs I have coming up and I already sold my version 1 because it was such a poor performer.  Why can Canon release the 5DIII so quickly after being announced but not this lens or the 1DX ?

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon 5D Mark III - Price Drop Details
« on: March 06, 2012, 11:03:47 PM »
I don't see any significant price drop for years... maybe not until the next 5D (mark IV or whatever) gets close to being released.  Might drop about $100 by next year, but that's chump change.  The Mark II came out at $2700, I think, and I bought one a year-and-a-half later for $2400.

However, I would guess that there's a reasonable chance that Canon will offer one of their rebates within a year or so - perhaps around the holiday season or early 2013 ???

I hope the glowing reviews and the specs for the 5D III live up to the hype.  If so, the 5D III is definitely on my must have list.  Just want to wait a while to justify the cost.

Canon General / Re: CAMERA Software/Firmware wish List.
« on: January 28, 2012, 12:30:41 PM »
If you could give canon your wish list for improvements to the software/firmware of the EOS what would it be?
three come to mind for me at present:

1. Replace the IMG prefix on file name with your Initials like the Nikon does.
2. expand the serial count in the file name.  Could give you a better image count and less Roll over? (in Camera)
But I bet there is a Rule when dealing with file folders and such.)
3. ability to see how many total times your shutter was fired.

I would really love to see all three of these implemented - especially 1 & 3.  C'mon Canon, get it done please  ;) :)

One design change that has apparently been seen is a fully internal zoom function, we’re not sure if that is with all the prototypes

I really hope a version with fully internal zoom makes it to market.  That would rock!

I just want this lens to be available soon.  My first version has been extreeeemely unreliable even after being calibrated a few times.  I finally sold it a couple months ago anticipating the new version.

Here's one for all the photographers who appreciate the true art of spot coloring  ;)

Add an eye recognition feature so that when you look through the viewfinder, the camera detects what you're looking at when the photo is taken and will retain the color of that portion of the image while desaturating everything else.

To make it even cooler, there could be a custom function to select what color to make that part of the image where the photographer want to keep in color.

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
