Canon General / Re: Camera armor, does it work?
« on: October 02, 2011, 08:29:34 PM »
I had it with my first camera when the 400d first came out.

It changes the feel of the camera a lot, and besides stopping a few scratches, i'm not sure what else it would have protected. I also found the smaller buttons not very responsive. I'm not sure how the wheels would go on the 5d's.

On another camera protection product.. what are everyone's thoughts on Lens Coats?

I haven't used one on any of my Canon gear, but i use them on the 200-400 Nikkor and 600m nikkor lenses that i use for work.

I recently shot in the Himalayas in Kashmir, and wanted some thermal protection for my 70-200is2 and the only colours i could get where army colours, i didn't really want to look like i had a weapon there in these volatile times so i went without.

besides birdwatchers, is there any need for Lenscoats?

Hi there,

Long time visitor, decided to join the discussion.

I'm a Melbourne boy and owner/creative director of a Creative Agency called Maybe Tmrw. I often use external photographers and videographers, so flick me an email if you are chasing freelance work.

I also have my own photoblog at http://www.eneyesee.com

I'm hanging for the new 5dmk3 and new 1D.... would be very interested in the EF mount video camera too, as i currently have a few Sony Nex VG10s with Canon eos adapters as well as dslr rigs.... but still am not completely happy with these options.

Anyway... Hi

Australia / Buying Camera gear in Aus? Who do you use?
« on: September 24, 2011, 10:57:46 PM »
Hey all...

Just thought i'd open up a thread on where we buy gear?

Options I have seen and thoughts on the are:

In Aus:

DWI - "sydney" - All imported from HK, over $1000 you can get hit with tax, online credit card payments require you to fax ID and address proof

DD Photo - never purchased from them but heard good things.

Teds - rude staff in Melb cbd

JB Hifi - nice staff and will price match, but their range and lowest prices arent always competitive enough.

Other

Bh Photo
Adorama
Digi Rev

What are your experiences?

I'm in an annoying situation as i need another backup camera and i'm very reluctant to buy a mk2 or any other model right now when we are so overdue for a release.

I'd love some new L glass thrown into the mix. a 24-105 that is actually SHARP would be a nice addition.

EOS Bodies / Re: Camera clip system

I usually think camera clips are the bum bag (fanny packs) of the camera world.....

This one however looks a bit more versatile... I'm always scared i'll bash my lens on something squatting for a shot.

EOS Bodies / Re: New Processor for EOS line
« on: September 24, 2011, 10:42:54 PM »
It will be interesting to see what processor they use in the mk3 etc. With the rumoured increase in video quality and the higher megapixel count, it will need to be pretty powerful.

Maybe dual digi v's?

It would be strange for an Eos model to go from a standalone photo camera processor to a video camera processor, surely building a processor that suits the exact needs of the machine is a far higher priority that using an existing processor from a line of products of which the sales dwarf that of the eos lines.

EOS Bodies / Re: Opinion - What EOS Will Look Like by Photokina
« on: September 24, 2011, 10:35:35 PM »
Would love the 5dmk3 to pop up for a release soon, I currently operate with a few mk2s and a 7d, and just hate that 5d focus, and 7d's poor low light and weak colours... besides that they are still good units.

I also was an early adopter of hdslr video, with rigs, follow focuses etc, and have since changed to Sony Nex VG10s due to the ergonomics, audio quality, autofocus, and ability to put eos adapters on it. So an EOS mount video camera would be snapped up immediately.

I almost went up to the 1d recently but decided to get another body to run a short and long lens simultaneously as i couldnt justify the extra cost vs the features. I think Canon are shooting themselves in the foot if they don't put a bigger gap between the 5dmk3 and the 1d's.

my 2 cents!

EOS Bodies / Re: New Canon 5D Mark III in the wild
« on: September 24, 2011, 10:30:31 PM »
I find the way that site is written with a lot of arrogance. Having a site and a forum like EOSHD means you must be open to peoples opinions, especially people that have experience in the field.

For example some people think that the new apsc sensors compare well to FF, where as others, like me find huge differences in work and quality.

I'll stick to my daily visits to this site. Keep up the good work. When i read it on your site i'll believe it.

With the feature image on the article, they have the zoomed in cropped picture of a MKiii logo. My problems with this are:

1 - If there was a mk3 in the shoot, everyone in the studio would have had to sign ndas, i doubt that anyone would risk pissing canon off just to get off a shot of a camera everyone knows is coming eventually, and for no financial gain.
2 - Isn't the location of the MK2 badge on the far side of the lens? Obscured by the lens
3 - If they were releasing the mk3 for branding I would assume (based on the images on release of the 5dmk1 & 5dmk2 and common sense from their marketing team) that they would be promoting it with a L series lens, and *fingers crossed* a new L series standard zoom... to promote sales of a kit or just to kill two marketing birds with one stone.  In this shot i cannot see a red ring (note it is low res and it may actually be a L lens).

I much prefer logical and to the point reporting on this site.

Software & Accessories / Replacement 5mk2 & 7d battery doors
« on: September 24, 2011, 10:19:38 PM »
Hey everyone,
I recently lost an accessory bag that among a few wireless triggers, i also lost 2 5mk2 battery doors and a 7d battery door.

Struggling to find replacements online (this will teach me for not hiding it in the battery grip).

Anyone know where to find some?

I need it to be posted to Aus.

Thanks in advance guys
