The 5D MK III will apparently be emphasizing video more than the 1D which is a pro level stills camera.  Canon has also announced a development of a HDDSLR that is more for video (4K).  It is certainly going to be more expensive.

Really? So there is only one full frame DSLR aimed at photographers? There is beginning to be a need to split the line i think.

Yes. I'll pick at least one up straight away.

Dual slots makes you not need to worry about corrupt cards.

The autofocus alone is my driving force however, using the 5d2s as much as I do means that af really annoys me. Especially if I switch to a 1ds or 7 for a bit... You really notice the difference.

it will have ISo improvements as well which will be handy

Obviously it will also have the 3 years plus improvements in technology, which when you use a camera for a living means it makes ur life easier haha.

I vote yes for sure. Now hurry up and bring it out..

I can't see it being much less than 3500

Yep Canon in Sydney is where you want to head...

Unlike their offices in Melbourne, their camera repair centre is in Sydney.

If you head to Melbourne, i've get my canons serviced at Camera clinic in Easey st in Collingwood, they are great and have built custom solutions for us as well as taken apart all of our Nikon 600mF4's to replace the VR and reinforced the shutter on our D3x's. Highly recommended.

I think the 24-70 II is a good combo

I'll buy that kit the moment it's out.

attached to a grip? You sure? You sure it wasn't just the shape of the camera?

Did you get to shoot with it?

EOS Bodies - For Video / 100mm L Macro for video
« on: February 11, 2012, 05:35:04 AM »
I am shooting a fashion video look book next weekend, and will be using two 5Ds, on one i'm mounting a 50 f1.2 lens, and the other i want at around 100mm. I don't really know whether to use my 70-200 f2.8 or tripod mount my 28-300 at 300 (compression etc).

My other option is my 100L macro.. Has anyone had experienced this with people, and not used as a macro lens? I know it is good for stills with portraits... but how does it handle video?

I use the vg10 and vg20 daily. I often put a 50 1.2 on it and get great result.

The aperture controls in this camera are dicky and I actually prefer using the manual ring that is part of the $50 adapter I use.

nice.

but will it allow focus on 85 1.2 ?
if it does, I'll buy it right away :P

uuhhhh apparently it does!

Isn't it aperture only?

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Nikon's D4 Outed Officially
« on: January 04, 2012, 06:39:20 PM »
Nothing really that groundbreaking or game changing between the two models. I don't think any of the features of either camera will make people change brands. Except those that need the extra 1 FPS or 3 (with lock up).

Does it have Ethernet out? because is something that makes me choose the 1dx now over our current collection of d3xs for one of my projects. I'm glad the d4 didn't have it so i can finally shift ALL of our work purely to canon now.

I think 1Dx will be much better than D4. Higher resolution, better AF, and of course higher FPS --  those are exactly what we need.

That depends on what you are using it for. I have no need for high FPS. We don't know the AF is better as we haven't used both cameras. They are both still unreleased.

I am suspecting the quality of Nikons after the disasters.

The article mentioned it is not made in Thailand.

EOS Bodies / Re: weird "grid lines" in 5DII pictures
« on: December 27, 2011, 06:01:58 AM »
I had a similar thing with my first two 7ds, but where yours is more of a grid, mine was horizontal only... i sent them both back and both times they replaced the whole sensor assembly.... I think it was more a case of they didn't know what it was so they just pulled the guts out.

Either way looks like your camera has some demons!... I'd jump ship, sell it off and buy another, or take it to canon!

Good luck

Software & Accessories / Re: Tripod w/ Spiked Feet and Air Travel?
« on: December 27, 2011, 05:57:08 AM »
I've carried both a monopod and a tripod on board on an aircraft a number of times... (In Australia, SE Asia and Europe).. I've never had an issue, i assume if you took it without cameras you would seem a bit suspicious haha. But i personally havent had any problems.

I tend to agree with CR guy though when he says he checks it in... on a recent Indian project I had to travel with a couple of tripods, i simple got a big role of bubblewrap and wrapped it around it, wrapped gaffa around that, and put a fragile sticker on it. Simple, cheap and means your don't have to squeeze it into your suitcases/bags.

Just make sure you insure it if it's a pricey one ;)

I've not had the need for my Canons. But with my D3x's we have different prefixs for each camera... instead of DSC we have ASP, BSP, CSP... for the A, B and C body respectively, and the other two letters represent the client. This is because we often have each body shooting on the same day and with up to 2-4000 shots been taken we needed different prefixes.

I've never had the need to do this with a Canon, but if it cannot be done currently, it would be handy edition to the new comers to the pro line.

Try Tokina 11-16 or Sigma 10-20

I once got my 16-35mm mk II killed during a trip into a Thai jungle.
It was holding a B&W MRC UV SLIM filter, but the humidity was SO high, it killed quite a few parts in it..

sometimes these things failing appears so random. I spent 2 months in thailand and surrounding countries with my 40d and tamron 17-50, neither which are sealed and I had noissues at all. Use them in rain often actually.

I agree, i worked in Chang Mai and Bangkok for a long time with my whole kit and never had problems.

I had a few in Berlin last winter going from shooting in the snow back to my apartment and the temperature change caused a lot of condensation.... but never had one fail.
