Software & Accessories / Advice: Black Rapid shoulderstrap
« on: June 14, 2013, 04:49:25 PM »
Just walking around with my 5D MKIII and 7D (both with batterygrip) with 70-300L (or 70-200 2.8 II) and 24-70 VC or 16-35 2.8 II attached, while using the canon shoulder straps, I am looking for something that makes carrying more easy and grabbing the cameras more easy.
Like the Black Rapid Yeti shoulder strap:

BlackRapid Yeti & Yeti Slim Straps - How To Instructions Small | Large

Does anyone have experience using this strap with heavy cameras and lenses attached? Does it hold good?
Isn't it to easy to cut the strap from the back and take to camera while walking in a more crowded area?

Is there some same solution but with steal wire inside the strap? I thought that black rapid would have such a solution. Sun sniper has. But it looks like only a strap for one camera :(

Lenses / Best shop & sharp prices in California (Van Nuys)?
« on: April 25, 2013, 02:07:32 AM »
Can someone advice me where to buy the Canon 24-70 f/2.8 MKII in California? Should be close to Van Nuys. I am not there to test the lens myself. So, it is an order by maildelivery and addressed to my friends. They won't be able to test it, they just take it abroad.
In that context it must be a reliable shop and with some sharp prices.

Thanks!

Software & Accessories / Dutch Gear insurance for travelling abroad
« on: January 03, 2013, 01:03:56 PM »
A question for my fellow country men/women:

What gear insurance did you take? At what company? Pros and cons? Prices? Recommendations?

I did some major gear upgrade recently and noticed that I will be travelling with some 15.000 euro gear.
Travelling is by airplane abroad / middle east.

Bedankt!

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Menuoption 'AF status in viewfinder?' (5D MK III)
« on: December 23, 2012, 07:40:46 AM »
I am going through the 'AF Setting Guidebook of the 5D MKIII'. Great document.
Reading about all AF-related menu functions on page 5, I noticed in AF5 the menu option 'AF status in viewfinder'.

Now, maybe this question was raised before, just couldn't find it. So sorry if I raise it again:

I checked my 5D MKIII menu and this menuoption is not visible. I have the other 4 options that this Guidebook is showing.

My firmware is 1.1.3

What other menuoption must be enabled for 'AF status in viewfinder' showing up in the AF5 menu?

I have 2 questions regarding the GPS Receiver GP-E2.

1. Are there restrictions when entering a country like Israel to bring and use this receiver? (Maybe someone from israel can answer this)
2. What is your experience in the use of the GPS - accurate etc

I read this : http://blog.martinbaileyphotography.com/2012/05/14/podcast-335-canon-gps-receiver-gp-e2-review/

Hoping to get some replies here from your experience. Thanks!

Lenses / Need some advise: light sensitive lens indoors
« on: November 08, 2012, 02:51:55 AM »
I am looking for a lightsensitive lens for indoors use.
I have some lenses i.e. 135mm f/2 L that are lightsensitive but very often its focal length is too much.

Personally I like the flexibility of having a zoom when taking photo's indoors since not always I know how much space there is. And, the lens should be easy to handle from size and weight point of view (so my 70-200 f/2.8 is less convenient here)

My budget is max. 1000 euro

The Canon 24-70 MK II L is not an option from pricing point of view. Neither is the Canon 85mm f/1.2 L

I am considering either the Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 VC or the Sigma 85mm f/1.4
I know I know, I already own the 24-105 but this lens is my outdoors walkaround lens. So I don't mind overlap

Can anyone share his/her experience about the Tamron and/or the Sigma?
And, what would you do?

Just recently I purchased the 5D MK III
I noticed that while using AV(did not check M or TV) in combination with Evaluative metering my photos (using 24-105 and 70-200 MK II) are about 1 stop underexposed. I do not have this with my 7D. I thought both use the same meteringsystem. Did the metering change in the 5D MK III? Or do I need return the camera for a check?
I can correct of course the exposure. Even in post-processing. I can use also a different metering but I am just surprised of different behaviour compared to my 7D. It now means that all the time using AV icw EM I have to use + 1 stop EC

Can someone help me with some advise and explanation? Thanks!

ps sorry if this subject was already addressed. Couldn't find it

Lenses / 24-70 MK II or 70-200 MK II?
« on: September 30, 2012, 06:40:58 AM »
I am going FF in October with 5D MKIII
I would like to add the 24-70 f/2.8 MK II. I like the aperture f/2.8 & zoom flexibility in one lens for indoor photography.
However, maybe the 70-200 f/2.8 MK II may be a better option. I don’t have experience on the different ranges (from 24 to 200) on a FF, just the crop (7d) So, I don’t know what I will notice or miss.
I couldn’t check all my files but I would say 1/3 of my photos are between 24-70, 1/3 between 70-200 and 1/3 between 200  to 300mm.
I currently own a 24-105mm for walk around. I really like this zoom for outdoor photography because it is giving me a good range which is important to me.
I currently own a 70-300mm L for sports mainly (with my 7D) but as walk around lens as well (small , not too heavy)
What would you do? 24-70 MK II or 70-200 MK II?

Ps (I will also add the 135mm f/2 to my primes)

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Cleaning Camera - some questions
« on: August 19, 2012, 10:47:44 AM »
I do take care of my camera (and lenses)
I am curious how you do that.

1. What do you clean on your camera (what parts)
2. Do you detach parts of your camera for cleaning? If so, what?
3. And what do you use for cleaning for what parts of the camera?
4. How often a year do you clean your camera (or after what kind of shooting) ?

And, how often do you replace your memory cards? Or do you continue to use them until they start to show errors?

Lenses / Verifying USM / Af noise in Canon 24-105 L
« on: August 10, 2012, 02:38:00 AM »
I just bought a 24-105L
I notice a sound when pressing the shutter to AF. It is difficult to describe the sound but I don't hear this kind of sound on my 70-300L
Now I know the 70-300L is much newer and may have a more advanced mechanism.

I am just not used to this kind of sound and wonder if it is normal. I just like to hear your experiences before going back to the store.

Thanks

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Canon 60D/60Da Firmware 1.1.1 update
« on: June 20, 2012, 08:57:45 AM »
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras/eos_60d?selectedName=DriversAndSoftware

Holy cow. Important update  :o

Changes Firmware Version 1.1.1 incorporates the following fixes.
1. Fixes a phenomenon where the camera's serial number that is displayed in the shooting information of the image does not display the correct serial number. *1)
2. Corrects errors in the Greek, Italian, and Portuguese menu screens.

*1) If the camera's serial number is 2147483648 or higher and the camera firmware is Version 1.1.0 or earlier, the images captured with the camera will be affected by the phenomenon listed in 1. above. This phenomenon only affects the EOS 60D, and does not affect the EOS 60Da. Both of these cameras are equipped with the same firmware. To obtain the serial number correctly in the shooting information of images that are already captured using the old firmware, we are preparing updates for Digital Photo Professional and ZoomBrowser EX / ImageBrowser applications. Once the software updates are ready, we will make an announcement on our Web site. Firmware Version 1.1.1 is for cameras with Firmware Version 1.1.0. If the camera's firmware is already Version 1.1.1, it is not necessary to update the firmware.

Software & Accessories / PC power to process RAW photos
« on: April 22, 2012, 05:37:15 AM »
I currently use a notebook to process my RAW photos.
Specs:
Intel i5 - 430M (2,4 GHz) - quadcore
4 GB memory
Nvidea GeForce GT5 105M with 512MB (DDR3)
500 GB 7200 rpm

I am going to upgrade to:
Intel i7 - 2670QM (2,2GHz) - quadcore
8 GB memory
AMD Radeon HD 7470M with 1024MB (DDR5)
640 GB 5400 rpm

Though I have read a few tests about what the specs can offer in processingpower to process RAW photos I am still confused. I hope some opinions can shine more light.

The old configuration has less memory, less strong cpu, less powerful graphical card. But the harddisk has 7200 rpm.

I believe that the new configuration should help me with more speed in processing. BUT, am I going to notice the slower harddisk? Having only 5400 rpm.
On the old notebook reading (and writing baqck after processing) a set of 500 files (approx. 25MB each) from the harddisk and load it in DPP or DxO Optics was relatively fast.
On the new notebook the disk is larger. Having bigger clusters that should be able to read and write larger files more easily than the smaller harddisk. That should compensate for the slower rpm. Or am I wrong? What is your experience?

Site Information / Problem canonrumors.com on Mobile
« on: March 21, 2012, 01:54:32 AM »
For a few days now I have troubles with Canonrumors.com displaying correct on my Android 2.3.5
Until last week the site displayed correct. I haven't changed something on my mobile.

The main news section - usually displayed on the left -  is now centered on the webpage.
The forum links on the right of the webpage disappeared.

Anyone else having this problem?

Software & Accessories / AF Micro Adjustment valid in all modes?
« on: January 02, 2012, 01:38:23 PM »
I apologize if this has been answered before.  :-[
I am just learning on AF Micro Adjustment.

When I calibrate a Canon lens in my 7D, and set the value, and "save", is the adjustment valid in all Modes (TV,AV,M and even the C-modes)? I assume it is, since the Adjustment is lens specific and not Mode specific.

Is my assumption correct?
