Slow Processing
A large number of users have indicated a 200 to 300% slow down when compared to LR3. It is found in many areas of work but most annoying when sliders respond very slowly or when importing work. There has been no recognition from Adobe this is something they are working on.

Ah... I thought it was just because the only images I have done much work since upgrading are 10 shots panos of almost 20,000 x 4000 pix :)

5D MK III Sample Images / Re: 5D3's First Engagement Shoot...

    • The metering is phenomenal - and while some have complained of the DR, it seems I'm able to recover a heck of a lot more highlights than I could from my 5D2 images.  Whether this is improved functions of LR4, or better metering of the 5D3 is hard to tell at this point.

Glad to hear you are enjoying the new camera... Mine should be shipping today. My 5 year old daughter is going to a birthday party at an indoor play place called "pump it up" Ive always had problems there with my 550d due to the low light and movement... If my 5d3 arrives in time tomorrow it will be a great test for it.

Quick question... You are talking about LR4 with the 5d3 shots... So:

    - Is there a new update to use the 5d3 raws?
    - Did you shoot jpg?
    - Did you convert to tiff in Canons software then import that into LR4?

Actually that was 3 questions... :)

Oh and now I think fo it I have more...

The AF performance you mentioned in low light... what lens were you using? What was the max aperture? I think you were probably using a 70-200L f/2.8?

Great shots by the way... have you shown the client yet? Though I am sure they didnt care about anyhting you had to say about your wonderful new camera! :) I liked the ones with the sunset clouds in the background. [/list]

Sweet!  I guess the next step is for the Warehouse to verify the stock for our preorders.  I guess the Warehouse will determine on which wave our shipments will be done.
I pre-ordered at 25 minutes past midnight on March 2nd.  My order ends in 528XX.

I preordered 12:13 est on 2nd my order ends in 525xx. Mine was originally body only but I switched it to kit yesterday.

I have just called B&H to ask about switching my preorder from body only to kit. Not because I think I'll get it quicker but because since I placed the order I have thought more about what I already knew about my lenses... that is neither a 17-40mm or a 70-300L make good general lenses for a full frame camera.

Anyways back to ther reason for posting.

The guy at B&H said that changing from body to kit will NOT change my relative place in line.

My order has been updated and it now has a new cost but the order number has remained the same. He says I should gte it early next week. As for if he meant they'll ship it then or that I'll actually get my sticky paws on it then... I didnt think to ask. I guess even if youre in the first batch presuming B&H arent taking extra staff just to ship this there will be a time required to fill all the orders. If Canon dumps a whole mountain of 5d3's on them they still need to be processed, packed and shipped.

Now I think about it logically (from the limited information I have :) ) your place in line is likely determined by your order number (or time)... so as they fill the orders they will move along a list of order numbers (or times) not have a separate list for each product. I am of course presuming the guy wasnt lying and they are told just to say yes and get more money out people when the option is there, you need to presume these things to function in like but you never can be sure can you...

So basically its not like lines of people at counters in a food court... you dont have to join the back of the noodle line if you decide you want to get noodles not pizza :) You get to join the noodle line after the guy the joined the noodle line the same time you joined the pizza line...

DISCLAIMER: This is just an analogy...  This is not how it works in the food court in the mall... trying to join the noodle line in the middle may result in you getting a punch in the face!

Of course depending on where your mall is results may vary... you may either just get frowned at or you may get stabbed... neighbourhoods can be really different in this respect. :-)
i was told the opposite from adorama, if i switch to the kit i would loose my place in line :(

I was told that I would likely lose my place in line if I switched when I asked in store at B&H last week.

How did you ask? Phone, email, online chat or in person at the store? You might want to call Adorama with your order number and ask today now it is likely they are actually get shipments in they may be more willing to talk.

B&H sells too much stuff and they don't care about a "small" portion of 5d3 users. Instead local or smaller camera stores who treasure every single customer, are doing a much better job.

Maybe all the guys who pre-ordered 5D3 from B&H should go onto google Review and start leaving negative comments, heh.

I was finding the comments here amusing. Now, I just find them utterly ridiculous.

Before smearing a reputable chain, consider this. When you pre-ordered from B&H, when did you expect them to ship the camera? There are only two reasonable answers to this question: 1) when they received them; 2) March 22. At time of pre-order, I was in the former camp, as no set date had been given upon which I could set my expectation. I think the 5D3 announcement said something about late March, so perhaps that was my expectation, but it was rather imprecise. Later, I started expecting March 22, mostly based on CR, which has consistently identified this date as both the date which Canon set for U.S. sales and shipments and the date that B&H specifically should be expected to ship.

The only legitimate complaint you might have is whether B&H could communicate more or better. My experience in business tells me that they shouldn't have communicated anything, as the timeline that they internally might be planning on depended critically on receiving a shipment 3/21 or 3/22 from Canon. Any communication to this effect would set expectations based on something out of their control. Worse, it risked putting Canon, their business partner, in a bad position. Suppose Canon missed the delivery. Then everyone here would be complaining about Canon, threatening (even more than now) to switch to Nikon. While B&H still might capture the Nikon business, they still have the reputation problem with Canon.

The above even ignores the possibility that B&H had to agree with Canon not to disclose a firm ship date. This agreement would have been in OUR (customers of B&H) best interest, as they might have agreed to this to get a larger initial alotment.

As I said elsewhere here. I'm anxious for this thing to get here. But, my expectation all along has been that it would ship from B&H as soon as they got it and that could be as early as 3/22. So far, there is NOTHING to cause me lose confidence in that expectation. Unlike smaller stores, B&H has a huge, well-earned reputation at stake with its large customer base and a beneficial (for us) relationship with Canon.

The lack of patience here rivals that of my 3-year old niece headed to Disneyworld. No, we're not there yet! But we're on the way and we'll get there when we get there!

I am probably part of some of the things you say are ridiculous on thse forums but I agree with you on all you say here... :)

B&H did not form with the specific purpose of only filling 5d3 preorders, the systems they have in place for their business, big business as it is, are not designed to cope with these kind of events. They have all sorts of other business reasons to handle thinsg the way they are. To get so irate with B&H/Amazon and say you are new going to buy anything about them again because of this is pointless and something I suspsect those who said it will not stick to anyways... Just because stores that had no preorder mechanism have them in stock now and B&H have trucks full coming through to handle but cant give a specific ship time for each every one of their thousands of preorders does not make B&H evil all of a sudden.

To be fair to the big guys such as B&H and Amazon they did have preorder links open within hours of the annoucement and because they were the only links available to thousands of rabid customers who have been waiting for the 5d3 they probably have an absolutely collossal amount of preorders. They may be big but they are not infinitely big and will definitely not get enough from Canon to cover the many thousands of preorders they have received.

Comparing them to a small store that provided no way for the masses to preorder but get a hundred cameras in and then have them for sale is a little unfair. The big guys order system is probably full of people preordered who have no intention of buying from them because they are either looking elsewhere so they can try and get their camera quicker and also people who just got on the list while they made up their minds if they even want the camera. Now actual release time is here a lot of preorders are going to be cancelled. Now when they are trying to get organized with how many 5d3s they are actually getting in and going to thier order list to ship they will have thousands of people up and cancelling their orders as they work, the list will be shrinking so fast people will be flying up the list. Probably people they could have told would be not getting in the 1st few shipments now will be.

I'm not saying Amazon and B&H are wonderful and have perfect customer service... Just that this is a not a normal situation.

The hysterical I'm never going to buy anything from them again comments based on this current situation is a bit over the top. Once this all over and we all have our new cameras then perhaps both B&H and us customers can start behaving normally in our roles again...

    Anybody here on LinkedIn?

I'm just getting started on LinkedIn I have only 1 "connection"... I was told that the best way to get connected with people is via groups.... below is the response I got when I treid to join the Canon EOS Group.

As I dont have any friends who are on LinkedIn and wanted to join groups to get connected I think this makes things rather awkward :-)

Reminds me of the time about 15 years ago when the bank wouldnt give me a loan because I didnt have enough money... If I had the money I wouldnt need the loan!

Anyways heres the Group response for your amusement.

"This is an automated message that your current request to join our group (Canon EOS Digital Photography) was declined.

Please don't take this personally, you have too few connections and we have found that the best way to keep the group non-commercial is only allow participants who have an actual network of people in Linkedin.

Please re-apply as soon as you have more links in your network. "

Heard from a camera dealer with good connection to the national Nikon people today, that Nikon initially was not happy with the 36MP sensor they got from Sony in terms of high MP. They wanted a smaller one, but Sony "convinced/forced/..." them to go with the 36MP one.

    Sounds pure BS to me.

I called B&H a couple of minutes ago to change my shipping method to Overnight delivery.  Asked them when they're going to have the camera in stock and the guy on the phone didn't know.
In any case, I hope that having modified the order won't send me to the bottom of the list!!!  :-\
On the other hand, hope rumors about retailers receiving kits first, and then bodies, isn't true because I ordered body only. lol

I dont think changing your shipping wont send you to the bottom of the list, changing from body to kit or vice versa would have because its a different product.
