Software & Accessories / Tripod with swivel arm
« on: December 05, 2012, 06:37:09 PM »
Hi,
looking for suggestions regadingr a medium size tripod, that allows center post to be rotated/multi-positioned.
I know that there are more than one brand, but all are great according to manufacturer  ::)

I am using a  full frame DSLR, and some of my lenses are heavy - but not telephoto.
Don't need a top-of-line, neither head
Thanks
Phil

Lenses / lens scratch - worth to keep or return?
« on: December 01, 2012, 12:50:35 PM »
Hi,
I am evaluating a lens (Zeiss wide angle)canon mount.
Do you thing the swirl scratch is an issue for lens value? it is small enough, to make me believe will never show up in a picture, but at this moment, cannot take a shot with with sun glare, and verify that
Please see pic and comment  - just the scratch, not the dust  :D

and the reference stick is 0.5mm pencil lead
NOTE: the swirl below is just froam cleaning - the scratch is to the right of the red pencil lead

Lenses / last call for vacation lenses
« on: September 21, 2012, 10:46:09 PM »
I got tons of good answers before, but meanwhile I added the sayang 14mm to the pack. Now, is no question it has to come along, along with the 80-200 2.8L.
That leaves a big gap in between, and I have no choice to carry a third lens for my vacation in Nepal.
So in sum:
CONFIRMED
- Samyang 14mm 2.8
- Canon 80-200mm  2.8L

OPTIONS for a third lens:
- Canon TSE 24mm 3.5LII
- Canon 35mm 1.4L
- Canon 17-40mm 4L

I will be shooting mostly landscape,  people, maybe some night shots, and few days in city environment.
Weight is not an issue.
What would be your choice and why?
Thanks
Phil

I know that they other websites geared towards travel, but what I am looking for is feedack from people that have been there with more than just a pocket P&S camera.
Planning got there this late summer, for a 18 or 21 day trek.
If you have been there and took your DSLR with you, which lenses did work the best, and which one you missed the most, or wished you had?
Tripod and flash are a plus or just extra weight? Issues with recharging batteries?
anything else?
Thanks for your feedback

Lenses / Bower 14mm weird behavior ---SOLVED !!!!
« on: April 19, 2012, 01:14:09 AM »
So finally I got my hands on a bower 14mm,  in preparation to a Canon ef 14mmL II loaner trial.

Sure I was aware that focus and aperture are manual, BUT as I switched the aperture ring back and forth, from 2.8 to 22, no light change did happen.
I tried a few times, and nothing, till I gave the lens a light tap on the side, when the value was at f/22.
The viewfinder did become darker as it should be. I turn the ring to 2.8, and it did become lighter, but as I turn it back to 22, again no light change on the viewfinder
The light tap solved the problem.

No, I am not kidding, but has annyone ever experienced similar situation with this lens ( knock-offs included)?
It seems that the lens has some issues...

Thanks for your feedback

Technical Support / Canon and lens calibration
« on: March 08, 2012, 10:15:39 AM »
How come Canon does allow for lens calibration in some camera models, and yet does not supply any sort of software or technicalsupport for such?
Do they rather have people keep on sending lenses back and forth with those silly complaints about being not sharp/focusing well, etc?
Why are they letting others make money out of something they could easly provide for a small fee? - actually should be free, or with a simpler free version available

Does not make sense to me.
Yes, I like the fact I can micro-adjust focus  of a specific lens to a specific camera - I don't like that Canon does not provide any help  or support for it.
Shame on you Canon

Technical Support / canon factory cleaning costs
« on: January 19, 2012, 07:06:53 PM »
Anyone knows what is the average costs for a lens or camera body, clean and/or check service?
trying to determine if their CPL memberships are anything worth:
the gold member offers two free check and clean - body or lens - and costs $100 per year

Lenses / fill the void -17mm to 24mm
« on: January 19, 2012, 10:34:46 AM »
So, I am considering selling my 17-40mm f4L from Canon.
I have already the 15mm fish eye and the Ts-e 24mm mk2. Love the wide angle lenses, but the 15mm distorts things too much, and the 24 is not wide enough sometimes.
What would you suggest to fill the gap in between? yes, needs to be a prime, and does not have to be canon, as long has stellar quality - same or better than the 17-40 at wide zoom set.
Thanks

update: using a 5Dmk2 body for wide lens

EOS Bodies / Upgrade to a 5Dmk2 or TS-e lens?
« on: December 15, 2011, 03:32:35 PM »
Hi,
I have a canon 5D mk1 and happy with except when it comes to lack of live view and the LCD quality.
Mostly I shoot landscapes, but I like macro, or close-up nature details  i.e. leafs with dew, mushrooms, detail on trees, flowers...
Right now, I have a 15mm 2.8, a 17-40mm 4l, a 35mm 1.4L, 100mm 2.8 macro and an oldie 80-200mm 2.8L.
Been looking to at the ts-e 24mm and even the 17mm, against upgrading the body.
I really don't care for the video abilities of the mk2, as i have the lumix lx-3, and the small videos I shoot, are good enough for me - yes, it's just a hobbie, and mostly done while hiking or vacations.
I would like to hear your opinions, in special if you have done the upgrade from mk1 to 2 and/or own a ts-e lens - I really like the possibilties it can provide but wonder if it will be too much of a specialized camera, as I normally hike out with only two lens
Thanks
