EOS Bodies / Re: Calumet Photo Files Chapter 7 Bankruptcy
« on: March 14, 2014, 05:02:19 PM »
Whoa! I should have looked at the court filing first. They are listing less than $50,000 in assets. I'm guessing there are individuals on this forum (not me) that have more than that in Canon equipment.

I don't know how this works in the camera retail business. Is it customary for a supplier to retain ownership of the stock until it is sold?

Maybe it will be the Canon refurbished store that gets all this stock back?

That 50,000 is in 1000s, so really means $50 million in assets.

Looks intriguing.  Now let's see where price lands.

Very good news.  I'm also intrigued by the new ultrawide.

Sounds like another market opporunity for Sigma and Tamron... someone will make fast primes for the ef-m mount if Canon continues to support it.

I still like my M, but a faster AF body would be great.  I have no real interest in a telezoom unless the AF works like my 1 series... :)  The 18-200s for NEX are huge and defeat the purpose of a small body.

While I've been critical of the M in past posts, I've just thought of an "improvement" that would make me
consider one - a native FD mount to be able to use legacy lenses for video.   A FD adapter might fill the bill
since a native mount would not make it past the beancounters and may actually be physically required -
even canon can't change the laws of physics - but the M4/3 guys seem to do well with a variety of adpaters.

Adapters exist and work just fine (no glass required).

Enjoy!

I still shoot with an AE-1 once in a while.  I had an EOS 3, which was awesome, but the AF was getting dodgy.   Still a fine looking and performing camera:

EOS-M / Re: EOS M & Eye-fi card question
« on: March 29, 2013, 04:46:49 PM »
Hi guys, while I'm waiting for my EOS M to arrive I was researching Eye-fi cards, but I can't find out with the 4Gig X2 card if I can save RAW +JPEG and then send the JPEGs. Or can I only save JPEGs for the Eye-fi to send.
If anyone who has a Eye-fi in their M could answer this for me, would be helpful.
Cheers
Blair

I haven't tried it yet.  I'll try to do so this weekend.

EOS-M / Re: To buy M or not to buy M?
« on: March 27, 2013, 12:05:52 PM »
For those that have the kit flash. Is it worth getting it?

I see some decent ebay deals from HK with it.

Deciding on just getting 22 + adapter for 710 or 22. 18-55, flash + adapter for around 870.

I'd get the 22mm kit and buy a 270EX, the kit flash seems a bit under powered to me.

the 90ex is worth it if you have another flash and want a commander.  that's how I use it anyway.

EOS-M / Re: EOS M and Flash X-Sync Question

Sync speed is 1/200.  HSS works for all.

If you want to use a manual powered speedlight or strobe, you can use any speed where the flash duration is longer than the shutter travel.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: removing odor from camera
« on: March 19, 2013, 01:34:02 PM »
I'd try a little soap and water on the outside surface first, or at least a good wipedown.  The smell will fade, but if it continues to be bad after a wipedown with soapy water or a mild cleaner, return it.
If you want to deal with KEH, you could ask them to cover the cost of new plastic covers.  They are adhesive and can be replaced fairly easily, peal off the old and stick on new ones.  The metal does not absorb odor, so replacing the plastic should work.

Definitely return it.  Cleaning will be arduous and probably won't work, at least not right away.  A wipedown alone won't do anything, even with soapy water.

I bought an FD adapter off ebay for under $20.  It works great... .

I actually think the current one works well with some bigger lenses - the 70-300L, for example.

Me, I hate EVFs, and definitely don't want one. As has been said, decent AF is what they should work on!

Me too.  I had a NEX 7 and did not like the EVF, even though I thought it was implemented well.  I've adjusted to shooting with the screen on the M and do not need or want a viewfinder for this.  I have a dslr for uses where it is helpful...

EOS-M / Re: The Next EOS M? [CR1]
« on: February 25, 2013, 09:29:42 AM »

The people slagging the M because it is not full frame are hysterical.  The full frame sensor gives you a marginally increased ability to decrease depth of field and larger pixels (depending on the sensor resolution) that make noise easier to handle.   The APS-C sensor works just fine for 99% of photography needs.  The M has problems.  The fact that it is not "full-frame" is not one of them.

EOS-M / Re: EOS M Autofocus Performance Won't Improve via Firmware [CR2]
« on: February 18, 2013, 10:35:03 PM »

The AF is not as bad as folks make it out to be, but it's clearly the weak link.  AF depends heavily on the lens used and is more than useable in good light.  It can't do sports, but neither could the 5n, despite the high frame rate.  I've had the NEX, 3, 5n and 7 for comparison.  AF on those was better, but ergonomics were way worse (even on the 7, though I know some like it).  The Canon touch screen is great.  If they had a faster AF system, this would have been a great camera, instead of a merely good or so-so camera.
