Software & Accessories / Gura Gear Deal
« on: September 09, 2012, 03:39:53 PM »
I'm not sure invite sites are allowed in the forum, I know that the amazon links where you make money aren't, so if this isn't kosher please delete this or lock/ignore the thread.

With that out of the way.... There's this website, The Clymb, that has Gura Gear bags for sale for the next couple days. I don't know what street prices for these things are so I don't know if this is actually a good deal or not, But I know these bags are often recommended so I figured I'd pass it along. I think you have to register to see the deal so I included a screenshot of the prices so you don't have to waste your time in the event that it's not worth it, or you're not interested.
Anyway, I hope the deal doesn't suck, and here's the link to be invited.

Amazon currently has the G1x for sale for $730 shipped. I think that's a pretty good price, especially for those of us that have Prime shipping and don't pay tax.

PowerShot / D20 Dead in the water?
« on: May 08, 2012, 11:39:19 AM »
I liked the D10. It looked goofy but I really enjoyed it in part because of the unique look. I haven't had any experience with the D20 yet, but I just don't like the aesthetics of it. Plus F/3.9? Seriously? Olympus just announced a new tough cam for 50 dollars more with a lens that starts at F/2.0 and I'm really thinking of picking it up. I usually like to stay in one family, and I know it's a bit bulkier than an S100, but if I bought the Olympus I wouldn't have to buy both the S and D (the aperture is a big factor to me.) What do you guys think? Did the D20 end up being too little too late?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 5D Mk.III and 16-35II in camera HDR
« on: March 28, 2012, 08:38:16 PM »
I went for a small nature hike the other day and was testing out the in camera HDR, and just giving the camera a first run-through for me. They were doing prescribed burns where I was and this is what I ended up with. I'm pretty pleased with the output. Two details of note, it was INCREDIBLY windy and I didn't have a tripod. Windy to the point where it was knocking me around.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Camera camouflage?
« on: March 24, 2012, 12:14:52 PM »
I've seen and heard of people taping up their cameras to hide the brand or model before, but today alone on this forum I've seen it mentioned twice. This link the first picture (attached) he has taped both of his cameras, and another response in another thread someone went as far as suggesting tape over the red ring.
So I ask you, do you cover up what kind of camera you're using? I just can't see it being a big deal in terms of stoping camera theft. Sure there's a handful of people out for a specific free camera but I'm under the impression that to most camera thieves any camera will do if it's easy.
If you do cover up the brand and/or model for other reasons, what are they?

EOS Bodies / Locking Mode Dial.
« on: March 06, 2012, 03:11:08 PM »
The mode dial has certainly caught a lot of heat from both sides of the fence. People either love or hate that little button you have to press to switch modes but rarely don't care about it. I personally don't care. I've only switched modes accidentally once or twice, but I welcome the change just to see if all the hate is rational.
I wasn't expecting it, but if Canon would have given the 5D3 the mode selection of the 1-series cameras I would have been very happy. It would increase the weather sealing a bit more, be one less mechanical part that could break, and one less obtrusion to snag on something.

That said, what type of mode selector would have have chosen if you could decide?

EOS Bodies / If there's no 5D3 Friday...
« on: February 28, 2012, 04:46:10 PM »
Will you still buy something? What I mean by that, I currently have about 2,400 set aside for the new camera and should be able to fully pay it off sometime in April but if there is no Full Frame camera announced I'm thinking I'll pick up the 34L and start building back up my camera fund.
I don't need a new body, and I've been planning to go FF for quite some time now but the nerd in me won't let me get a nearly 4 year old camera with the new one being so close.

So, if there's no 5D3 this week what, if anything, will you pick up to appease your burning pockets?
