Lenses / What's wrong with my 70-200mm?
« on: June 21, 2013, 05:54:37 PM »
Hello guys

I have a small problem I was hoping you could help me with:

So today I bought a used 70-200mm f/2.8 IS (version 1).

I'm pretty happy with the lens as far as performance goes, but i noticed that there are 4 exposed screws where the tripod collar are supposed to be - these screws are basically preventing me from attaching the tripod collar.

I have attached a photo of one of the screws, and I was hoping someone could help me tell me why these screws might be there, or are they supposed to be there, and I am just being stupid? I wasn't able to find a picture of a 70-200mm online without the tripod collar attached so I can't see if it's normal.

Thanks in advance

I am very much looking foward to the reviews of this lens.

If it shows to be a solid improvement over the 24-105mm in terms of sharpness and AF, I will probably purchase it as a standard zoom for my 6D.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Canon 6D vs 5d mark ii
« on: September 17, 2012, 12:13:37 PM »
I currently own a canon 60d, but I have wanted to upgrade to fullframe for a long time now.

It was the plan to upgrade to the canon 5d mark ii very soon, but with the announcement of the canon 6d, I started to think if it would be a better idea to wait and buy that one?

I know that the canon 6d hasn't been released yet, but how to you think it will compare to the 5d mark ii, in terms of iso, AF, image quality etc?

Should I just go for the 5d mark ii now or wait for the 6d?

Thanks in advance

The 7D and the 60D are equal in terms of high ISO noise. They both use the same 18 megapixel sensor.

I dont know how much better the 5Dmk2 are, but we can expect the mk3 to be even better at high ISO.

Lenses / Re: Your Go To Portrait Lens?

Of the lenses that i own I would say:

50mm 1.4
17-55mm 2.8 IS

- Both works very well for me, though I would like to have the 85L on a FF body for portraits :)

In the October 2011 issue of popular photography on p. 65 it says:

"...Davises shot with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and 24-70mm f/2.8L IS II for an exposure that slighly underexposed the sunset beyond..."

To me this sounds very interesting - this could confirm the rumor that the new 24-70mm wil have IS?

Or could it just be a mistake?

Any thoughts?

It's a goof/typo.  They meant either a 24-70mm f/2.8L or a 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II.

There cannot be a 24-70mm f/2.8L IS II released any time soon (i.e. it's many years away).  Either they release a 24-70mm f/2.8L II (no IS, MkII version) or they release a 24-70mm f/2.8L IS (would be a MkI version, since there is no current 24-70 with IS).
Good point!
I think you are right.
