A 1D? Body with 1.6 APS-C sensor.

(A cross between a 1DX & 70D, 1DX body with 70D sensor)

At a 1DX price ok too.

A total kick-ass camera!

Canon General / Re: Travel charger for Canon LP-E4N battery
« on: April 01, 2014, 11:41:57 PM »
The Canon LC-E4N battery charger that comes as standard equipment with the 1D-X is rather large and difficult to pack for long trips.  Has anyone found a smaller alternative that works safely with LP-E4N batteries?

It is called an inverter, 12 VDC to 110 VAC.

Software & Accessories / Re: Canon Shutter Actuation App for Mac

When you remove the battery the first thing the camera does after detecting that the battery door is open is to shut itself down properly.

Battery door? 1DX what battery door or any other real camera "1D series"???

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Resetting the shutter count
« on: November 11, 2013, 12:35:29 AM »
I purchased a 6D from Canon Refurbished and actution was 17 using a Apple Mac app called "Shutter Count" so I was pretty excited thinking my body was new. But later I realized my files started at _MG_9025.CR2. So now I'm annoyed.

So much utter BS out there as to shutter count.

9025 is NOT THE SHUTTER COUNT it is the sequential file number left over on your card from another camera.

A 4 digit number will never be used to represent a 50,000+ count shutter!

Only one canon camera series can give the user a correct approximate shutter count and that is the 1DX/C but rounded to the nearest 1000 clicks.

Yes many a software out there boast but only Canon depot software can give you the correct activations and then the currently installed shutter count.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Is it flare, internal reflections or a ghost
« on: September 27, 2013, 07:04:16 PM »
I tried several lens/camera/exposure combinations this morning and found only my most expensive 24-105 Canon L lens produced this problem and only when I have (relatively) bright light in the subject.

Has your 24-105 been in for the recall for the lens flair problem?

When this lens first came out there was a recall and I sent my lens to canon and they exchanged it for an updated lens.

Lenses / Re: Canon EF 300 mm F/2.8 L IS USM Lens with a 2X III TC
« on: September 21, 2013, 11:49:02 PM »
When it comes to TC's the misnomer is that a TC will degrade image quallity, this is not true when using a good TC,  it only magnifies the flaws by 1.4X or 2X.

The MKIII Canon TC's are very good optical quallity VS privious models.

Garbage in = 1.4-2.0X the garbage out!

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 5D3 or 1Dx
« on: September 01, 2013, 01:18:03 PM »
My 5DmkIII is the best point and shoot/compact camera I have owned.

My 1DX is my go to camera for pro work, better AF, better AE.

With the 5DmkIII too many times the exposure is off in complex fast changing situations.

The 1DX being able to see AE in Color is a huge advantage!

I'm on the road pretty much every week and carry just one charger to cover everything except my laptop.   I've been using the Gomadic system for years.  Once you have the charger, all you need is the modular tips for the specific device.   I current use this quad unit which includes international adapters:
http://www.gomadic.com/quadcharger.html

You can buy direct or from Amazon.

To bad it only works with 5 volt devices!

So you're in a hotel room and have a dozen devices to plug in, each of which will occupy an entire outlet.  What do you do, particularly when you have to pack whatever you intend to use?  Assume please standard North American sockets.

Jim

How many of your chargers use a external power supply?

I have 6 four gang AA chargers that all run on 12 Volts so I was going to just get one 6 amp 12 volt switching PS to run them all with one 117 VAC plug.  Much lighter than carrying six trainsformers.

You can do the same with other chargers that need the same DC voltage.

and Canon will not sell them parts.

Not true in the USA, anyone can order repair parts from the Canon USA parts dept.

I have ordered and recived the front lens element for both the TSE 45mm f2.8 & EF 14mm f2.8 L USM as well as many other strange parts for frankenlens projects.
