EOS Bodies / Grain & Noise - Canon 60D
« on: December 26, 2011, 03:30:30 PM »
Greetings and Happy Holidays!

I made the purchase finally, a Canon 60D.  I have a Tamron 17-50 (2.8) and a Canon 50mm (1.8).  I have not had much success importing/exporting video footage from indoors (moderate to low light situations).  Much of the video seems to carry a lot of noise or grain.

Any suggestions in importing, settings, lens suggestions (was thinking of getting a Rokinon 85mm and/or 30mm 1.4)

Lenses / prime vs. zoom
« on: November 19, 2011, 02:32:53 PM »
Greetings Gents & Ladies,

I am purchasing a Canon 60D this upcoming "Black Friday."

I am in need of advice for lens options:

I'd like the ability to get GREAT DOF on close-ups etc.

My primary mode:  VIDEO

My primary content: Narrative/Documentary types (secondary = sports)

Question Primes vs. Zooms?

Is it better to get a 70-200 2.8 L (no IS) and have that for about 6 months

Is it better to get a 50mm 1.4 along with a 11-16mm for about a year and maybe save for the 70-200

Once again this is mostly for video

EOS Bodies / Video Moire/Aliasing!?
« on: November 07, 2011, 06:07:50 AM »
Greetings all,

I was wondering if there is a standard fix for the nasty moire/aliasing that plague the Canon DSLR line for video?

If not then I may be forced to go with a GH2.  My last post many of you convinced me that the 60D was the way to go with a few fast primes and a nice zoom.

Now, after watching many videos I am very concerned with the moire/aliasing issue.

EOS Bodies / T2i vs. 60D vs. 5dMKII
« on: November 02, 2011, 09:00:41 PM »
Hey gents (and ladies).  In my prior post I asked about the 60D or wait for a new model.

I've accrued a bit more funds since then and have also accrued more knowledge.

It seems like their is so much diverse opinion for HDSLR and video.

1. 5dMKII body and an inexpensive lens for a few months and slowly save for better lenses
2. 60D body and get two decent lenses and slowly save for better lenses
3. T2i body and get a really nice lens now and then slowly add as I go
4. Screw it and get a Panasonic GH2

new vs. used?  thoughts? Ebay/Craigslist/Refurbs

EOS Bodies / 60D or Wait?
« on: October 08, 2011, 12:59:00 AM »

I am an amateur when it comes to this field and am seeking guidance.  I am currently selling my Canon HF-S20 video camcorder to jump on the DSLR revolution-wagon.

I have done some research and think the t3i, 60d, 7d are in my range of possibilities for purchase.

I am primarily looking to work with video and will use some still work to support my content.

I am a teacher using mostly footage from interviews and documentary type  filming, such as protests, to engage content.  I will also use it sporadically for personal use, concerts, sports, etc.

I seem to be leaning towards the 60D...what are your thoughts on that as well as upcoming cameras in that range as well as lenses ?
