Canon General / Re: Announcements Coming Tonight
« on: March 21, 2013, 08:27:56 AM »
This may not be popular to say but the new SL1 will definitely get my attention once:

1.) the price drops significantly AND
2.) if Canon releases a couple more pancakes (20'ish mm & a 30'ish mm) at a reasonable price.

Totally with you on that. Aside from professional gigs I love taking my 5DIII and 40mm out to social occasions because it feels like a compact to me.  However, the SL1 with a series of pancakes as you mentioned above would be bliss for such occasions.

Count me as someone else going against the flow here. I also own the 5D2 and 5D3 and coincidentally, I too have sold my 7D (and am eagerly awaiting the 7D2!).

lol, I too am waiting for the 7D2.

I think Canon dilutes thier lineup with too many of the same cameras. Why would a consumer buy this vs the T4i for the same price? What's different about this and the T4i (maybe I missed that)?
You'd be surprised with how many people make a buying decision based on size alone. I'm thinking that since Canon did not make such an impact on the market, with their mirror less cameras, they might be trying something different ... who knows, it might click.

You know, this goes against the flow here but I'm more interested in this camera than the eos M.

Just to clarify, I own the 5DII, 5DIII and up till recently the 7D.  I also own a Lumix LX3 as a pocket camera. Professional gigs aside, I've stopped using the LX3 for social and personal events in favour of my 5DIII with the 40mm pancake.  I would be interested in making this setup even more compact with a smaller body.  It interests me more than the eos M and I love the quality and size of the pancake.

I guess I won't know how small this is till I feel it in my hands but if it does come to fruition and it's to my liking, I might wait till the price cools and be up for it?

Canon India has not sent any Service Advisory mail to users.

They expect you to check at CR ;)

Same in Australia, no notification - lucky we have our trusty CR.

Software & Accessories / Re: new 13" MacBook Pro

The 5400 rpm hard drive will bottleneck the whole computer. If you do go with a macbook pro, a minimum would be a 7200 rpm drive. Ideally, you would want a 256gb (or larger) solid state drive. They work wonders in laptops. If I remember correctly, the new macbook pros are sealed systems (correct me if I am wrong) which means you have to pay apple to change out the drive. And that sucks because they charge A LOT for those drives

Agree.  SSD is a must!

Thank you again.  Very informative.

Neuro, you are a genius!  Problem solved but I did not change any custom controls myself (not consciously anyway)?  Maybe FoCal did somehow (it did crash on me twice).  Anyway, I am so happy.

Thank you for those tips, I might have to try them out.  Is that the way you have your cameras set up permanently?

Hi neuro, yes that seems to work perfectly.

Hi guys, wondering if someone has encountered same issue that might have an easy resolve and save me having to take the camera in under warranty.

I finally decided to buy FoCal and calibrate all my lenses together with my 5DIII and 5DII.  All went well except now the 5DIII is not auto focusing in any setting other than Full Auto (green) mode, and video mode while pressing AF-ON.  So basically the focus system simply does not respond (like it was in manual focus).

I've tried:
-different lenses
-checked lens was in AF
-changed batteries
-'clear all camera settings'
-disable AF microadjustment

I'm assuming it will be a software issue and hoping someone might have an easy resolve.  I'd appreciate any ideas.

EOS Bodies / Re: More Canon EOS 6D Specs Surface [CR1]

I can see something similar to this becoming my back up camera to my 5DMkIII and replace my 5DmkII.  Maybe it would even become my preferred non commercial use camera just like the 7D was when it first came out.

I bought the Muse and I liked the look the lens produces but I wanted more control so I bought the Composer with the 35 optic. Here are some shots of my son using it.
