Errrr...... 'Save As' ;D

DigitalRev offers their own 1 year warranty on all their Canon products, so in the event that you purchase a defective Canon camera and Canon refuses to service it under warranty, DigitalRev will cover the cost of repair or replacement. I forgot where I read this but it's somewhere on the DigitalRev site and I believe it to be true.

What happened in that story above was a DigitalRev employee took one of the DRTV 5D3s and shipped it as new in order to improve his performance rating (they were out of stock and he would have had to cancel the order otherwise, negatively affecting his rating).

That was an isolated incident and DigitalRev has taken appropriate action against the employee and compensated the blogger who wrote the story. Additionally, they hired an internal auditor just to ensure that something like this would never happen again.

The whole incident showed that despite the bad employee, DigitalRev was really on top of their customer service. I would definitely buy from them!

good post

If these new lenses actually happen and are all as good as the 35, wonder what Sigma's roadmap is for their bodies?

Well Sigma only makes bodies around the Foveon sensor with their current flagship being the SD1 Merrill.  It is "only" an APS-C sized sensor and I think was originally sold for like $9000 though it is currently about $1800.  Unless Sigma has a huge secret they have kept under wraps about making a full 24 x 36 mm sensor, they do not make a single camera that can fully utilize DG series lenses.  They would be happy with all DC series if making lenses solely for their own line.

So it appears Sigma is still quite committed to being a third party lens line for the other major manufacturer bodies.

I agree that’s the case at the moment but just speculating for fun once they complete (whatever that might be) their Contemporary, Art and Sports lines what’s the next logical step I reckon a couple of new bodies. FWIW I really don’t care for the current design egon. so for me they have a lot of catch up but looking at the innovation going on with their lenses maybe they just have the taste for that?

Canon General / Re: the rebate program... what a sham!

I can't comment on the experience elsewhere, but here in the UK, the very useful site www.camerapricebuster.co.uk provides graphs of the prices of all Canon equipment on sale - it's very useful for spotting the odd bargain without having to trawl round a load of sites.

What you can see, however, is that there hasn't been any hike in prices in response to the rebate program - for example, the 8-15mm has been available at the same price since December, the 17-40mm the same price since November, others have varied - but randomly, with no significant hikes. (And with no evidence, incidentally, for the concept of January sales when it comes to Canon lenses!)

That's not quite the case, I've been following prices very closely and body prices did go up, here's the 6D graph
Same thing happens in UK

Nice design idea, pity about the April 1st disclaimer though  :'(

What I am really envious of though is Canon Refurbished
In the UK, Canon sells Refurbished items thru a third party.  They are sold on ebay for excellent prices, sometimes lower than US refurbs.

So it does! I had no idea wow, just did a search thanks MtSP  ;D

USA rebates, USA rebates... Discounts in US shops days after days. Almost nothing in Europe.
Prices in euro equal Prices in dollars despite Euro values more than dollar... and son on.
I feel like Canon is doing commercial discrimination towards european customers.
Do you ?

Of course everyone wants cheaper prices but to answer your question (for the UK) I don’t think there is discrimination by Canon after you have taken tax into consideration actually I think the prices have never been closer. I do think that high street shops are trying to compete against the internet but sadly just not succeeding, could Canon help them with that? I don't know, others will value what shops give higher though as for me this is a hobby not a profession. Rebates exist and are a simple sales gimmick, the base price goes up prior to the rebate, that happens everywhere.

What I am really envious of though is Canon Refurbished

and bring on a 24-70 2.8 IS art line for FF I hope it's more 'when' than 'if'

Site Information / Re: Love or Hate Canon Rumors Forum

Overall I’m amazed at the openness of many of the pro photogs on this forum willing to give up their knowledge, particularly technique to help others it is there lively hood after all. The few times I’ve asked for advice I’ve been given solid help and it’s been most appreciated.

The other thing that keeps me coming back is the photographs posted. There are particular photographers that I have found consistently inspiring, and am downright envious of their talent so I’m not going to mention them  ;)

As for the bickering that erupts occasionally, well it’s a bit like the Jeremy Kyle show no one admits to watching it but if I’m honest it is kinda entertaining  :P

Bottom line: I’m hooked!

EOS Bodies / Re: 6D Autofocus not impressive

The 5d2's ability in low light is much lesser than the 6d.  If you are never in ISO 6400 and up situations there is no reason to choose a 6d over a 5d2, but if you shoot in low light the 6d is vastly improved over the 5d2.

I agree and surely these other improvements must carry some weight?

quiet mode
full support for rt flashes
faster FPS
7x bracketing
dual afma for zooms
flexible min/max auto-iso
min shutter speed setting

As has been said on this forum (correctly) a camera is so much more that a sensor. I really believe that if Canon had just put 11 good cross AF points in the 6D there wouldn’t be any arguments about 6D over 5D2 and that wouldn’t have taken anything away from the 5D3.
