one thing is for sure... this shows how useless rumor sites are. 

the camera is pretty much final.
TV adds are produced.. and not ONE rumor site has good sources that can tell the specs.

all we have is different CR1 stuff.

What to expect from the EOS 70D.

Where is the 70D?
 We’re told today that the 70D has been pushed into April, we had hoped that an announcement would be coming next week.
 
DIGIC 6
 DIGIC 6 will be introduced tonight in the SX280 HS as reported a few days ago. We’re told we can expect DIGIC 6 to make its first appearance in an EOS camera inside the EOS 70D.
 
18mp Sensors
 Keep an eye on the SL1, as it has a brand new 18mp sensor on the inside. As present, we can’t confirm that it’s also in the T5i, though it would make sense. We’re told that the 70D will have the same sensor. This is from a new source.

at least (cough!!) 80% of all rumors say the 70D will have a 18MP sensor.
the 20% who say it will have a 22 or 24 MP sensor are probably just wishing.

and why should canon produce the SL1 sensor for only one camera?
beside the next M there is a good chance canon will put it into the 70D.

the EM5 is not much more portable then a 6D.
sure the 6D is bigger.. but in the end that doesn´t matter much (at least not for me) as the EM5 is not pockable either.

you need strap or a bag anyway.

No, the EM5 won't fit in most pockets, but to say it's not much more portable than a 6D (I'm assuming we're talking about bulk and weight here - obviously they're both portable in some sense) strikes me as bizarre.  Not only is there a notable difference in camera body size, but you don't take photos with the body by itself - you need lenses.

he acknowledged that the 6D is bigger but when you want to carry around the 6D or EM5 you need a strap or bag. does it make such a big difference then?

i was a µ43 shooter for a few years too. i had E-PL1 and GF1 bodys.
but what i really wanted when i did not want to carry my DSLR, was a camera i can put in a shirt pocket. so i rarely used the µ43 cameras.

i was only using the kit lenses with my µ43 cameras.
because i did not used them much anyway, and second, because i did not want to invest into another camera system. i prefer to put my money into canon glass.

i gave the GF1 to my mother and she rarely used it because it was too big.
she prefered her little ixus. 

So in general, I just want a camera that I can use daily to express myself or to document my own life, which pretty much means that I'll probably be okay with any camera.

nobody can give you and advice here and say he is right... because it depends on YOU.

but for that kind of use i would definately buy a RX100 sort of camera.
a camera i can carry around all day in a pocket.

The rumor didn't say the same sensor, just Olog-hai there preemptively complaining.

well we are not all braindead fantasy freaks who believe in miracles... gaffer gamgee.

my last 5 predictions were dead on.. i would be glad to be wrong this time... but i doubt it.

the first APS-C camera from canon to have a new sensor design will be the 7D MK2.

Has anyone done any testing on the SL1 sensor to give an idea of what might be in store for the 70D? It seems odd that you can buy one at B&H but no one has done an in-depth review.

well, when i look at the DXO score of the recent canon APS-C sensors... then i would say the SL1 sensor is worse then the 650D sensor. im just interpolating from a trend.

in a best case scenario there will be a modest improvement.. but nothing worth mentioning.
im willing to bet my 7D on that.....

well if it really has the same old 18 MP sensor i would stick with a 60D a bit longer.

let´s hope it is not such a pisspoor update as we have seen in the rebel line.

no you don´t.... if you know what you buy.

first this is a manual flash.
why should one pay for ETTL and stuff if all he needs is a manual flash?

second this is a cheap flash that works just fine and is more powerfull then the 430 EX II.
and even if it breaks after 4 years... well i can buy 4 YN-560 II for the money of one 430 EX II.

Because manual flash doesn't play nice with E-TTL pre-flash metering etc. Which can trigger the main flash on the pre-flash even if the guns are set up manually.

well in case you did not notice i said MANUAL.. when i say manual i don´t mean or use ETTL or a pre-flash...

LR keeps choking on video files. They've always had bad support of video but this goes beyond. I'm frequently getting errors importing video now.

yep same here.
i reported it a few times. send them example videos.
adobe acknowledged the problem last year.

NOTHING happend. the latest LR5 beta still has the same issues importing some videos. 

there is another problem with DNG files.
DNG files are altered even when you don´t touch them.

i use "second copy" to backup my files and i noticed that old DNG files, i have done nothing to in years, are changed by LR.

whenever i start LR and let it rest idle for a while, i can be sure that some of my DNG files are changed.

i checked with exiftool and there is on line changed in the metadata.. over and over.
the files are exactly the same (did a binary compare) except for this metadata field.

the result is that DNG files get copied to my backup drives again and again.

TIFF, JPG, PSD are not affected, only DNG files.

I hate that line.  I'm reading the books and then watching the show after I'm done with a book and she is the worst character. 

actually i liked ygritte in the books.
but not so much on the show.

And everyone would want better performance at the same price, but I don't believe someone is looking to have an IS version of the lens for twice the price.  At f/8 it is a nice sharp lens, which is great considering it is more of a landscape lens and you usually use a tripod...

i agree to that. i don´t need or want an IS version when it increases the price a lot.
but i would pay more for a (noticable) optical better 17-40mm f4.

as neuro wrote, the patent illustration makes it look unlikely.

In Europe (Netherlands at least) it's currentlty part of a cash-back rebate action. This would counter the idea of this lens being discontinued.

they could sell the stock to make room for the new one.
nobody said it will be released this month or the next.

all shops here have plenty of 17-40mm in stock.

I agree.  It is one of their lower performing L lenses and I imagine it is pretty cheap to make.  If they sell 200,000 a year, they will make a a small killing.  It is possible they will update date it, but NO ONE is clamoring for a better performing 17-40.

I don't entirely agree with this, the 17-40's inferior corner performance at wider focal lengths and apertures is fairly well known, so if Canon could improve the performance, I for one would be interested. A possible 14-24 2.8 is of lesser interest to me if it means it does not have a screw on filter thread, as is the 16-35 2.8 as I mainly use the lens stopped down a bit for landscapes. The current 17-40 is a nice lightweight and relatively compact sealed lens, which is good for e.g hiking outdoors and travelling light!

i want a better 17-40mm too.

the 17-40mm is 10 years old.. it´s time for an update.

and when we look at the big MP camera that canon will release, better UWW are desperately needed. not everyone will he happy using the 17mm or 24mm TS II lenses.

neither the 17-40mm nor the 16-35mm lenses are good matches for a 35+MP camera

How about Canon's Digital Photo Professional? It ships free with cameras, updates are free and the program does a marvelous job at editing photographs. Who needs anything else? And why?

well if you have to ask that question you obviously have never uses photoshop or done anything that has to to with image editing beside some color and exposure corrections.......

These big companies almost ask to be pirated.

Does a large department ask for shop lifters?  Do rich people ask to have their homes broken into?
Should carjacking of Porsche and Mercedes be condoned?

The big question is should legitimate buyers and users be punished for the actions of these individuals?

piracy has nothing to do with adobe going the cloud way.
and it will not help preventing piracy... adobe is not dumb, they know that.

the subscription model is simply a great way doing business... for companys.
you have a monthly income you can predict.
