Software & Accessories / Re: Scanners
« on: April 29, 2013, 05:59:54 PM »
there is not really much choice anymore if you want a good scanner.
many companys who have produced scanner in the past are gone or have stopped producing scanners.

flatbed.... epson v700 or v750 comes to my mind.

you want to develop BW film and scan these or scan negatives?

i once had a nikon coolscan 5000 for negatives.
i am not really up to date anymore but i heard it´s still hard if not impossible to beat.
thought they are not produced anymore, but you can find them on ebay.

sure they are pricey.. but you want good scans.. right?

most flatbed scanners, except for the top of the line models like the V700, are not good for scanning slides or negatives. in my opinion at least.
but as always it depends on the standards you set.

i sure would stay away from 200 euro flatbed scanner for scanning negatives or slides.

if i had to buy a scanner today i would buy the epson V700 or V750.

if the v700 is to expensive, the V600.
but it´s film scanning is not as good.

Another option is to download the latest Adobe DNG Converter.

Lenses / Re: EF 100-400 Replacement in 2013? [CR2]
« on: April 29, 2013, 09:16:35 AM »
I just can't see this lens coming out before the hugely delayed 200-400/560.

based on what?

why should they delay one lens only because they have problems with another?

the 100-400mm will sure be sold more often then the 200-400mm.
the 100-400mm is a more attractive lens (money wise) for many photographer.

i see no reason, except in case they share the same production problems, that canon will not just release the lens when it is ready.

...could be a marketing nightmare selling expensive zooms coming out at the same time (approx) with overlapping focal lengths..

well the 200-400mm will cost at least 8000 euro (10000 euro more likely)... so that will not much of a problem i think.

I think it will sell very well if it is under $2500.

lets hope so.

I bought the cheapest ones a few years ago, and they seemed alright. Was just wondering if these cheap ones with electrical contacts actually work:)

read reviews on amazon.

they work.. and sometimes they don´t if you stack them.
a friend has cheap ones that bend so much when he stacks all three, one pin will loose contact.
or better say the pins are to short to begin with.

it´s just contacts.. no electronics.
but some cheap chinese companys can even mess up that.   ::)

i can only speak from my own experience and my kenko tubes sit tight and work flawless.
i have no complains.

Lighting / Re: Speedlite Remote Trigger Question

I would also look into getting a few YN-560 IIIs in the future instead of a 430 ex II. They're cheap, manual units only but trust me manual is the way to go. You can still use your 580 for your ETTL needs. The YN-560 III has a built in radio receiver too and they work as optical slaves too (something the 430s lack). Also the buttons are nice and big which makes changing the power or zoom head a breeze. The 430 requires some fiddling about with thumbnails.

but can you adjust them with the YN-622C over radio?

if not... they are not the best for wireless flash if you want to control you flash units from the camera.

for example you can´t control the YN-560-II from your camera menu with the YN-622C.
so you have to walk to the flash units every time you make an adjustment.
the YN 560-II has only on hot shoe pin so there is no path for that info.

i think to make the wireless adjustments work (via YN-622C), the flash has to support ETTL... even when you choose to use the flash in manual mode. or at least it has to have the hot shoe PINS used for ETTL.

so correct me if im wrong but the radio in the YN560-III only works with the RF-602 and RF-603 units.

you'd be better using the 430 as the master...

yeah that would really suprise me....  ::)

get the Kenko DG extention tubes.

you buy these tubes once.
no reason to buy the cheapest stuff and have wobbling tubes or tubes that have issues with the electronic contacts.

great news.... now we only have to know if the price will double or triple.

also.. what design are the prototypes... push pull?
should be not so hard to figure out if the sources are valid.

« on: April 29, 2013, 07:29:30 AM »
when you ask such a question you don´t need a new camera.

if you would need a new camera you HAD to buy a existing camera.

so as you obviously have time to decide.. wait for the 7D MK2 and make a decision after you know the facts.

42
Because Canon can....

And when you look at other P&S manufacturer.. it´s not different there.

Or look at Mobile Phones.
98% don´t really need the latest features but everyone wants them.

you will need CS 6 to do that (open as smart object).

the problem is ACR and it will not be updated for CS 5.x

i think the latest ACR for CS 5.x is version 6.7 and it has no 6D support (i don´t know 100% as i have CS6 and ACR 7.x) .... it will not work.

EOS Bodies / Re: 70d out in time?

Right now you can pick up a refurbished T4i for $515 direct from Canon. If you need more power, the 7D can be had for $1074.

I always hear about the poor low light performance of the 7D, how does it compare to the 60D/rebel line low light capabilities.
Same sensor.  Very little difference in performance.  Plus, if you could afford a 7D, you should spare a little cash as used 5D mark II's tend to be very lowly priced nowadays.

yeah well.. if someone wants a 7D he will maybe not be happy with a 5D MK2.
you know the 5D MK2 is not exactly a sports camera or famous for it´s great AF system or speed.

but for the OT, as a travel camera, the 5D MK2 will be a nice camera.
thought i would not buy one new.
the price difference between the 6D and the 5D MK2 is non-existent here.

having both, i can say the 6D is the better camera.

we can argue how much of an improvement the 6D is.
canon could sure have implemented a better AF in the 6D... but it is an improvement (except for x-sync and shutter speed).

so for the same price (~80 euro difference here) i would always buy the 6D.

i don´t think the 70D will be out before august.
there is just a cashback action starting in germany for the 60D that will last a month.
so it´s unlikely canon will release a 70D anytime soon.
