Seriously ... the difference between 22MP and 25MP will be completely negligible. If Canon are going to release a higher MP camera, they have to go over 30 at least.

And when will they do it? Who knows. Probably next year would be my guess - they have a lot of releases this year with the cinema stuff, 1dx and 5d3.
well i'd rather they have made the 5dmkiii 25MP instead of 22MP.

yep 3 MP would make a huge difference.

i mean.. a psychological difference. not that you would notice it.

the issue i have with high MP monster is that people lie to themself and others.

i hear it often from other photographers in my area.... "i would really love to have a medium format or at least a DSLR with 30-40MP".

when you ask them why you get 2-3 seconds of silence and then they say..."well because i make huge prints" or "i can crop more".

all right.... but i know many of these photographers very well and i KNOW that they make maybe 1-2 prints a year that would justifie a 30-40 MP camera. some never printed large enough to max out a 18 MP camera.

for cropping.. well i don´t know if the 28% more resolution (36 vs. 22mp) will help so much as some think. but then im not a big fan of extensive cropping anyway.

there are sure some who can actually make use of a medium format camera and a high MP count... but when you read forum discussions you think they are all having a A2+ printer at home or ordering 240cm x 120cm prints all day.

a honest answer (for most) would be.." i dont need more then 21 MP. but i would love to have 40+ mp for pixelpeeping at 100% on my 30" TFT"  :)

EOS Bodies / Re: 5DMARK III - HDR Mode only for JPG...why?
« on: March 15, 2012, 11:17:22 AM »
i see no reason to have HDR for .CR2 raw files.
they do not suppport 32 bit if im not completely wrong.
so it would need in camera tonemapping.

HDR is a highly creative process.. why would i let the camera do it?

it would be more logical to have in camera 32 bit file support (tiff, exr... etc.).
so the camera just puts all the infos together in one 32 bit file and you do the tonemapping later in postprocessing.

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D3...why only usb 2.0?
« on: March 13, 2012, 07:07:11 AM »
i only need usb for tethered shooting.

i had great hopes that the 5D MK3 has gigabit ethernet.
in the end a gigabit ethernet chip costs next to nothing today.

usb 2 is a dissapointment.. i agree.

seems like on internet forums gather the whiners.
i mean.... 5D MK3 is on amazons top list for days... so the price seems to be no such big problem as some make it.

r u sure??

well you can see it yourself or not?
it is in the top 10 list or not.. so why do you ask?

Ok folks, when will the next 5D/1Dx come out? Maybe in 3 years, many more, are you all saying that the technology is that slow? the cameras that just got release are here to stay for a while.

imo sensor design is slowing down.
today they are doing finetuning.

microlenses, faster read speed all fine, but how much does quantum efficiency increase?
as r.n clark wrote not much

Complications regarding the perceived performance of pixels, pixel size and sensor size in digital cameras over the last decade (about 2000 to 2009) is a significant refinement in technology. While the quantum efficiency of sensors in digital cameras has not really changed much, other factors that have improved include: fill factor (the fraction of a pixel that is sensitive to light), higher transmission of the filters over the sensor, better micro lenses, lower read noise, and lower fixed pattern noise.

you can´t expect huge jumps in sensor design today... well you can but that would be unrealistic.
making the sensitiv area of the sensor bigger (backlight, exmor) was a nice step but we will hit a wall sooner or later.

I respectfully disagree with the OP.   Contrast-detect AF is not yet good enough to replace phase-detect AF and on that basis, and until there is a significant advancement, we are not approaching the end of the DSLR.

well sensor based phase AF could replace the current phase AF in a few years.

right sony is making nikon sensors... and sony is making dslr cameras too... so how can that be good for nikon?

in the end they are competitors and nikon is dependent.

and canon is creating a huge amount of patents year after year... so you worrys are needless.

Why has the green more detail as the red ??

i think that´s no wonder.
it is because of the bayern pattern. it has 2x more green sensitiv photosites then blue and red.

In SOME parts of the scene, the 5D3 image looks as though more NR has been applied than in the D4 image, but ultimately, the 5D3 image does show more fine detail IMHO.

yep it´s the red parts that made me wonder.

otherwise it is ok ...i say...  :)

Different lighting, etc. , etc. can cause this.

don´t they keep lighting constant?
i mean... what sense would the test make if not?

yeah i wouldn't expect the Mark III to get anywhere close to the D4.  The D4 will be impossible to beat.  I doubt we'll even see the Mark III competing with the D3S.  Those camera's are low light beasts.

well i have to admit the D4 examples look good.

you don´t have to go high as ISO 6400 even ISO 800 shows more details in the D4 pictures then in the 5D MK3 pictures.... at least in the reds... they are smeared into oblivion.

im really curious to see what the 1D X and D800 can achive.

539
having a phottix odin i rather buy 4x 580 EX II then two of the new flashes.

It's drama for me. There is nothing to compare with D800. I waited for 5D3, having a 5 lens from Canon, but now I decided to sell it and switch, unfortunately.

goodbye!
