From the suggested specs, it would seem that there has been almost no improvements/benefits to the video element of the new 5D3/X about to be announced shortly.

There seems to have been no improvement with regards to: Moire, aliasing, rolling shutter, higher frame rates - In fact it would seem pretty much the same standard as the trusty 5D2.

Videographers who purchased the 5D2 for its video capabilities and not to use it for stills will probably be content to leave the 5D3/x completely alone and save a fortune by sticking with the 5D2. I know I will.

An extra CF card slot won't tempt me, that's for sure. I just hope for Canon's sake that there's a lot of photographers out there wanting to buy it!

i wonder if it is always the same troll or where are they coming from?

Lenses / Re: Canon 200-400mm f4 lens - worth waiting for?
« on: February 23, 2012, 09:59:12 AM »
I see this new lens has a provisional price of 11000USD!!!
The Nikon 200-400 is available now for 7000USD.
That is a 4000 extra charge by Canon for a built in super duper 1.4X teleconverter - unbelievable!!

well a ferrari F50 has only 4 wheels, same as my mercedes... yet it cost a lot more.

honest, you try to judge a product without knowing a *hit about it.   ;)

i would advice to wait a bit until we have seen tests.. then it´s early enough to compare it to the nikon lens.

Sorry I couldnt see the bit about low light? Am i missing it?

it´s ONE example.... that´s what your missing.

i have a magazin somewhere where they made a similiar test with higher ISO´s.
you can go to 1600-3200 ISO and see no difference in A4 prints (550D vs 5D MK2).

now if low light starts at 6400 for you that might be different.. sure.
but then only 5-6% of my images are shoot above iso 3200 so i don´t care much.

Unless shooting in low light with a wide aperture prime. I could definitely tell you which is which ;) But I can see what you mean.

well others have said that and proved wrong (in magazine tests and you can read it on luminous landscape).   ;)

medium format prints vs. prints from G10:

http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/kidding.shtml

Quote
Over a two day period I invited photographers and local industry professionals to come to my print studio and look at a series of 13X19" prints from an Epson 3800 printer made on Ilford Gold Fiber Silk paper which were then hung side by side on my floor-standing print viewing box. This collection of seven people included experienced photographers, people from the commercial print industry, and other trade professionals. Between them there was at least 200 years of photographic industry shooting and printing experience.
.....

The Results

In every case no one could reliably tell the difference between 13X19" prints shot with the $40,000 Hasselblad and Phase One 39 Megapixel back, and the new $500 Canon G10. In the end no one got more than 60% right, and overall the split was about 50 / 50, with no clear differentiator. In other words, no better than chance.

In fact it was the H2 system's narrower depth of field that occasionally was the only clear give-away. Some viewers eventually figured out that the prints with the narrower depth of field were from medium format, while other photographers chose the G10 images because with its wider depth of field it created an overall impression of greater sharpness.

Needless to say there was much shaking of heads and muttering. Could this be? Could a $500 digicam equal a $40,000 medium format digital system in image quality, at least in prints up to 13X19" (Super A3)?

it´s a bit like modern art experts.
they think they now modern art ... until you show them pictures painted by monkeys....   ;D

If Canon priced this camera too high, and the market refuses to accept it, it will bomb ... But if Canon got it right .. it will be another best seller ... like the 5DmkII.

the last 18 month i knew i would buy the 5D MK3 so i put aside some money i need for an upgrade form my 5D MK2.

3000-3500$ is not cheap these days but you don´t need a 5D MK3 to make good pictures.
there are plenty of cheaper cameras in the canon lineup.

if you want a porsche you have to pay for a porsche.
and in the end.. lets face it... you can hardly use it´s full potential.   ;)

show someone A4 prints from a 550D and a 5D MK2 and 99% can not say what is what.

stop complaining about the price... for god sake.
if you don´t have the money buy a rebel.

the camera will have a lot more improvements then what is listed here.
and im sure it´s worth the money.

I have been extremely disappointed with Canon lately. I have been waiting for the 5DMKIII that never comes. And the 24-70 was updated yesterday without IS and a huge price tag.

Plus, the Nikon D800 was announced yesterday with a very affordable price tag. I doubt the new 5DMKIII will beat the specs of the D800. Nikon also has the better wide angle zooms. Question I ask myself is why am I still with Canon?

And dont smite me on this, Im a canon fan. Just that I think Canon is out of touch with the present reality.

who cares.....

you think we do care if u don't care....

Because 10 or 12 wasn't enough for many but 18 or 21 is? Because many see MPs beyond a certain level as providing less bang for the buck? Many people feel we've reached a comfortable level with MPs but haven't with dynamic range and low light performance?

You're assuming that people are acting irrationally. They aren't. They are merely satisfied with the megapixels we have and now desire that other aspects of image quality be the focus of design improvements. How is that childish?

read again.... and try to understand what he wrote.

and  i am absolutely with him.. he is right.

Read and see here http://cliffmautner.typepad.com/  - the guy states NO Flash, no exposure compensation...

i only hope the ugly "eye whitening" in his pictures is done in post and not in camera... lol.

i am in no way interested in the D800.

but i think it´s a nice camera and im happy that it´s released.
especially with this price.

as many new DSLR buyers with no glass (and therfore not bound to a brand) will look at the D800 and say "WOW .... 36 MP   :o" canon has to compete with that price.

@Canon-F1 :

In camera cropping would allow to extend the range of telephoto lenses, and also increase the frame rate if needed.
As someone who can't afford an EF 800mm F5.6, this would be a very appreciated feature, and should be very easily done (the D800 has it) !

it´s nothing other then cropping in post.

you mix things up here.
you can´t use EF-S lenses on a canon FF body.. it´s not working as with nikon FF bodys and DX lenses.

so in camera cropping makes not much sense for canon.

Hope Canon goes high resolution on the next 5D (30MP with a 1.6x crop mode with faster FPS would be really nice).

what are you talking about?
in camera cropping?

if you talk about EF-S lenses.. forget it.

Why is it that everyone says about the Tamron but never gave the Sigma 24-70 HSM the light of day.

i don´t want to buy 5 to get one good one. ;)

been through this before with sigma....
