Nice picture - but woooaaaahhhhhh, way toooooo much detail.
Honestly - how many brides want to be able to literally count those lovely blond hairs we're not supposed to see?

yep it´s like pron in HD... you don´t want to see that... :D

I think there is a lot of lighting help in making those photos look good.  Great lighting can make even poor photographers look skilled.

lol given that photography is all about lighting your comment makes no sense.

what makes a photographer really good if not his lighting skills?
choosing the right iso, gently pressing the button?

Yeah, sure.  Go shoot some sports and let me know how much time you spend working on the lighting.   ???

well sports photography is like journalism photography not about ART.
it´s more about reporting what happens.
even my grandma has a few good pictures when she shoots 9 FPS bursts all day.....   :D

landscape photography is about "waiting for the light", portrait photography is about light, fashion.. even wildlife photography needs an EYE for good light.

It is a start, but I'd like to see more Hi-ISO shots as well. Further, I'd love to see some RAW files, but this will have to wait I guess.

Honestly, the ISO 1600 is not really impressive as shown there. I was hoping for more details in that. But I am willing to wait for more samples before judging anything ;)

compared to the D800 shot at ISO 320 it looks good.  :D

but to be honest the 1600 shot of the models is not sharp.
i can do better with my 5D MK2.

Now...downsample those 36 MP images to 16-18 MP and see how the noise compares - otherwise, it's an unfair comparison, just like all those folks who complain that their new 7D is noisier than the old 40D, and they're comparing at 100%.

i prefer to UPSAMPLE images from a 1D X to 36 MP.

honest the D800 sample img_05_l.jpg does not impress me a bit at iso 320.

. I am still a "prosumer" and have not to this date sold any prints for any money.

so what do you need 36 MP for? im puzzled!

and as long as we don´t have the 5D MK3 specs.. what do you compare the nikon D800 specs too? a 3 years old camera like the 5D MK2 or the 1D X?

don´t take this too serious.  ;)

canon has abandoned the DSLR for the consumer market.
maybe they will use the EF-S lenses for their mirrorless system.

we will see a few new rebel models .. until canon decides in 2014 to stop producing cheap DSLR cameras.

canons new mirroless APS-C system will cover the mass market.

the pro sector will be occupied by >2000$ DSLR cameras and EF lenses that start at 800$

MF is a whole another world. for example, Hassel has only 1 focusing point with true focus and you cannot do series with focus shift and etc. So pro photographers require FF body functionality with near to MF picture quality. If Hassel does the same good job Canon/Nikon done with speed, focus and etc, then switching to MF will be massive.

there are other MF cameras then hasselblads.....

Check the second protrait's background noise, not as good as I expected.

the second one sucks.... it´s not very sharp either. not a good example imho.

Even if there is detail that I'm missing, all the emphasis in portrait retouching seems to be on blurring or 'smoothing' the skin so why would we need more detail there? Anyway, in the real (non pixel-peeping) world, do portrait or wedding clients usually examine their pictures through a loupe?

and how many couples order billboard prints?

if i read here in this forum i wonder how there can be room on this little planet for all the big prints people do.  :P

It didn't seem like white lenses were in the majority there this year. Are pro sports shooters switching to Nikon or is that just my misperception?

yes they do..... and that´s because canon has no 36mp camera.   ::)

that was sarcasm.....

I hate it when somebody tells me "you don't need anything more than 18MP." I have heard that a lot. How do they know what I need? When working with a model, I certainly need 27MP much more than double digit frames per second. I was kind of hoping the new 1D would rival medium format. When I'm shooting sports I don't want full frame. It's an impressive camera, but I really think they only people it's perfect for would be like National Geographic photographers and certain kinds of sports on smaller fields/courts. It's just the wrong camera for me and a lot of others, as well, even though it has a lot of really sexy features.

switch to nikon and give us some rest.   :D
you won´t get more MP with a 1D X so why talking about it over and over again?

and why not buying a pentax 645?
it´s not that much more expensive and a great studio camera!

if you need MF .. buy MF... simple as that.

anyway... the question is why can, for example, olympus design new lenses en mass for m43 and canon has lenses that are methusalems?
it´s not as if a 50mm prime for 35mm is so much harder to design then for m43.

and the standards for the non L lenses are not as high.

a 400mm f2.8 is a different beast then a 35mm or 50mm.

to be honest all these rumor sites seem to have no clue at all.

if there is something with substance you will read it anywhere at once .... all other stuff you can read there is crap.  no offense admin.... it´s still a nice site here. :)

februar,  no august, no december, no march, no july, no september.... wait i received word about november.

The landscape is allegedly from Utah but given its a double exposure and the moon doesn't orient with the scene the moon could have been taken anywhere.

i think we should really stop to use "double exposure" in that context.
i know many have never shot film here but it sounds wrong to most who have.
