Anyway I like the idea of putting the plates with the nubs in the front, not the back. I wonder if the nubs fit up under the front overhang?

Assuming you are not making a mockery of this, the 100-400 is a fantastic all purpose tele lens - sports, wildlife, reportage. It EXCELS at being a 'get the shot' general lens. The zoom range, weight, IS etc make it well worth the price.
Hopefully the big A will get some processed today.
Why not just buy it when you are in the us. Wouldn't it be cheaper then?
