Thanks for sharing, Alan.  Objectively and subjectively better than I expected.  ;D

Lenses / Re: How satisfied are you with the 100-400 II?
« on: December 18, 2014, 11:22:10 PM »
Voted 1 - Initial satisfaction is same level as when I first used my 70-200 mark 2.  Both lenses exceeded my personal expectations.  Well worth the wait and pre-order "premium price" for me.  YMMV

apologies for the IQ...using my cell phone.

Anyway I like the idea of putting the plates with the nubs in the front, not the back.  I wonder if the nubs fit up under the front overhang?

Definitely a serviceable solution, however, in a "reversed" position, a longer plate would not fit.  This is a 9cm plate and there is ~1cm between plate and vertical grip of body.

I use my smart phone for quick "snap shots", but not for images I plan to do something with down the road.  DSLR is for deliberate and thought out use, smartphone is merely for convenience.  YMMV

Got mine yesterday afternoon.  Cloudy grey day today.  I hope to get out and play with it a little bit tomorrow.  Curious about the 1.4x results, as well.  Will post some pics and share my thought, but the lens plate issue does have me scratching my head.  I will probably use a generic plate for a while and see if anyone designs a specific one for this lens.

Additionally they are what a mile or two away?

I believe Adorama uses their NJ warehouse for most of their internet sales fullfillment.

They are (both) always seeking the competitive edge.  When I get to NYC on business every few months, I always find an hour or two to stop by and look around.  Adorama has a smaller store, but staffed with equally brilliant people.

Assuming you are not making a mockery of this, the 100-400 is a fantastic all purpose tele lens - sports, wildlife, reportage. It EXCELS at being a 'get the shot' general lens. The zoom range, weight, IS etc make it well worth the price.

+100

Same story here as Mt. Spokane...

Pre-ordered on 11/15, credit card billed on Thursday, order status updated this morning...shows package ready for UPS pick-up...

Only shipping to PA, so should be here on Monday or Tuesday...

Cannot wait to play with the new toy... ;D ...

We have all been waiting for 3+ years for this lens update, so a few more days is not that bad...

Hopefully the big A will get some processed today.

EOS Bodies / Re: 7D MkII vs 1D MkIV "real-world"

I previously owned a 1D4 and never had a complaint nor issue with it.  It sounds like you could potentially second guess yourself if you went the 7D2 route.  Doubt that would happen with the 1D4.  The 1D4 is pretty cheap right now and (I would guess) the price point would not drop more than the 7D2 would, if you changed your mind in 6-9 months.  If that is the case, it could be a financial wash.

Really nice!

Why not just buy it when you are in the us. Wouldn't it be cheaper then?

Probably an issue of availability, when he gets here....
