considering the overwhelming response to the last 2 "rumors" of APS-C cameras, it's apparent that APC near future is something that you'd have to be crazy to abandon if you want to sell cameras in large quantities and make a healthy profit -IMHO. the 7D never really appealled to me because I bought a 50D and was very happy with it for my shooting skill and requirements. but of course some want the high end APS-C and canon seems to be telling people to buy "cheap" full frame. I don't think this jedi mind trick is working.
I have my APS-C so I went full frame with the 5DIII and it is a much different experience in shooting, it's keeping me challenged which is a good thing but I still feel more confortable with the size and responsiveness of my 50D. all the benefits of APS-C can't be ignored and FF is not a replacement, it is different, better for some things not as good for others - not a one size fits all. I think canon is pushing this FF for all line so they can sell the 6D and 5DIII for awhile before offering customers what might be a better choice for them.
by the way, my opinion is that they should replace the 7D with a better (than 7D) 70D and offer a APS-H 7dII but chances of that are low. it won't be good for canon to keep a high end APS-C out of there line up any longer as the FF crowd is probably becoming depleted pretty fast and the high end APS-C crowd is getting very agitated.

They need to consolidate 60d and 7d. 70d 20mp 10 fps dual digic dual sd or qd/sd. 38 focus pt 19 cross center dual cross 51k Iso. only 5.6 af to keep selling superteles to those big spenders. Then bring on the 7dii with apsh and near 1 series spec priced above 6d. Everyone happy!

last time i suggested that I got clubbed like a baby seal by the crop club... :o

maybe this time they wake up and smell the 70D and won't be so hostile.

Canon General / Re: More Canon Store Information

it looks to be fashioned after apple stores or other boutique type outlets. I hope they don't sell only at MSRP but they probably will, if indeed this is nothing more than just for publicity and status symbol. Apple keeps prices at full MSRP because they are unique and own large market share, at least for iphone/ipad.
canon cannot claim to be in a class by itself as it has many competitors offering similar products /similar specifications. it will be nice place to browse but we'll have to wait to see how many stores open and what prices they sell at to see if it is a legitimate retail option. I'm sure they will get many customers either way, but not sure what this means for regular active photographers on reasonable budgets.

Yes, a 40mm f/1.2L next to a 50mm f/1.2L?
40 seems to become a new standard? - next to 40mm f/2.8

And what will that do to 35mm f/1.4L?

I think that NL has had that 40mm lens image on the rumors area for a while as a joke

Lenses / Re: Canon Makes the EF 24-70 f/4L IS & EF 35 f/2 IS Official

I'm excited that Canon is making better lenses than ever.  Of course, better lenses cost more.  We can have cheap or good, but not both.

Also, people seem to forget that these are introductory prices — these lenses will likely be 10-15% cheaper within a year.

Except you seem to forget that Canon has now introduced MAP. That means unless Canon says the price drops, it will not drop. Just how often does Canon announce a price drop of a piece of equipment? Hmm, well, the 5D Mark II price dropped a lot once the 5D Mark III was out and there were a couple of other 5D Mark II price drops earlier on. But I can't for the life of me recall a single price drop of a lens. Price increase, yes.
it seems canon is setting the initial price much higher for new products now. I think (my opinion) the 3 new non-L primes are overpriced by $200 or so.  when the prices come down then I will buy but not before. I got burned on the 5DIII because I bought early. I appreciate the upgrades and willing to pay for- upgraded AF system, USM, IS, build quality etc. but this pricing policy is resulting in sharp price drops early which is a change from older equip coming down in price slowly(or slower). I bought 3 bodies as soon as they came out XTi, 50D and 5DMkIII. the 5D dropped like a rock which I have nobody to blame but myself for that. that won't happen again. I still feel that the 5DMkIII is the camera that I wanted for a long time and I'm not disappointed but I'm waiting for prices to settle before buying anything new in the future.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS 6D Specs Leaked?

if the sensor has the new hybrid PDAF would that improve the non-(2.8)cross type AF points?
if the focus of non-(2.8)cross types is better with the new sensor would it matter then?
what have those with 650D said about the hybrid AF? any good?
I'm glad I got the 5DMKIII because this camera would tempt me.
to me, it is a case of buying more than you think you need vs. buying what you think will be sufficient.
I got more than I needed so I can't say that I wish I would have waited for something better to come along.
the 61 point AF is in another league compared to Rebel and 50D if had. it focuses in low light better than anything I've used before. I probably could do with out and be happy with 6D but it's a moot point for me now, some $4300 later!

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D Mark III NOT Getting Recalled?
« on: April 19, 2012, 06:32:58 PM »
I tried your experiment but I have the kit so I adjusted the shutter speed to 3.2 seconds [correct me if I am wrong on shutter speed] the meter was centered. turned on the backlight, meter was still centered. got my meter out and took an EV reading, it read 1.4-1.6. so I guess you are correct. shined a small LED flashlight on the LCD [in fact with backlight on] meter was still centered. am I feeling better now? a little bit. I just want to know what sunlight on top LCD does. that test will be a little more complicated as it is hard to find 1 EV in direct sunlight [on LCD]. if you can tell me that situation has no effect then fine, I'm OK.

I will be very disappointed if there is nothing done for us early adopters of the 5D markIII, especially after the advisory and the apparent [if true] change to the camera design/manufacture that is currently holding up stock. if the cameras that are sold hereafter are different, and presumably improved, then I'll end up having paid the premium price for a camera that is not up to the level of quality of the final units. that does not seem right. My camera exhibits the behavior described and that does not worry me so much but I still don't know exactly how much effect will be seen when shooting with direct sunlight on the top LCD. I will appreciate it if canon address this in a logical way and does not say to early (and loyal) users "too bad for you". what the proper action is I don't know. I just know that the proper action is NOT "do nothing"

this would be great for APS C shooters if they just updated to USM and coatings for those that don't have digital types.
I've wanted the 28mm f/1.8 for a long time but don't like the CA. have the 35/2 and 50/1.8 but don't like the AF noise.
but start at the wide end please, and the 85 may not need any attention right now.

I just had to create an account and chime in on this one because I think this would be the biggest bang for the buck right now and I'm on a budget. I'd buy all that I could afford, maybe a grands worth and not regret it. 24 and 35 first.
