Canon General / Re: Is it Genuine? Canon LP-E6 Battery
« on: September 10, 2013, 05:37:56 AM »

fwiw, i only use non-genuine batteries(except for the originals that came with the body), they are much much cheaper(canon oem are a rip off) and most have a higher capacity, they charge the same and hold charge the same :o

Can't you just put it into a 5Dmk3 with the latest firmware?
If it's not genuine, the camera will flag it out.

I have 2 batteries that has all the Canon logos on it and look identical to the original, but when i loaded them into the camera, it says unable to communicate with the battery so i know they're fake..
the newer non-genuine's are decoded, fully compatible no communication errors ;)

my fav day/night street photog kit ;)

yeh, thats pretty impressive> the 6d is not bad either :P

Yes I have this but use it on a 5d2, I use it when I'm shooting landscapes when can't see the LCD due to the sun glare, but I don't have it permanently attached to the LCD I have it around my neck on a lanyard and just hold it up to the LCD to check the shot, levels, composition, etc. It works great, just blocks out the sun so you can see what your doing mine also has a magnification factor of x2.5 so when looking at your LCD through the loupe the image is enlarged :)

"3.  Keep the 40d and get a good used 5D or new 6D and get a 24-105L or similar lens?"

I have a 40d, 5d2, 6d, 1ds3 and 1d4 the 6d is my fav, just get it :) if you can afford the lens get that as well :P
If you don't like them, you can always sell them, there will always be buyers ;)

Deal like this make me sad and make Canon Australia look like an absolute joke.

Canon General / Re: my landscape kit

Hi nda.
First I confess I don't do much landscape, certainly not a primary for me though I do like to capture a good scene when possible.
When I do landscape I am always wanting a wider lens than my 17mm on 7D, equivalent to 27.2mm FF. As you have this as your special landscape kit how do you cope with 28mm when landscape is about the only thing you cannot take a step back to compensate for lack of width?
Not criticising, just curious!  :)
Cheers Graham.

hi valvebounce(greatname),
i used to carry my 16-35, 24-70 and 70-200 and found 95% of my landscape pics were between 30-200mm range so instead of lugging all that gear around and i hate heavy gear! i just use this wonderful lens, at f/8 and beyond it's super sharp, now sometimes if i know the location and i will generally scout the location before hand i will bring my 16-35 just in case :P

As someone who shot a hell of a lot at 11mm on APS-C (so, 18mm on full-frame), going wider has its drawbacks. You tend to want to include too much and come up with weak compositions. Sure, there are times it is the only option for a dramatic shot, but, on my last trip, I found myself shooting in the 17-30mm range a lot more than 11-16. Heck, my 3rd and 4th best shots were at 85mm and 200mm.

Doesn't say where he shoots, but, if I was anywhere near mountains, that 28-300 combo would be perfect for variety.  Plus, you can always stitch together a few shots at 28mm to create 20mm. Big advantage to no lens changes as well, if you are in the rain, wind, snow, dust, etc.
