Canon General / Re: Europe trip, 1-2 months

If you should decide to come to germany, I strongly suggest you visit the so called "saxon switzerland" in eastern germany, close to the czech border. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saxon_Switzerland

the obvious choices would be scotland, norway and maybe tuscany or the alps...
anyway... have a nice trip! :)

Lenses / Re: A New EF 50 f/1.8 IS? [CR1]
« on: July 10, 2012, 04:52:46 AM »
it seems as if we should get used to the fact that canon will not give its fans/customers what they want... but something close to that... and then some 1 or 2 years later the "real deal" may come... but in the meantime we bought something we didn't really want, just because its a tiny bit better than the "old" stuff.

I'm dissapointed, if this 1.8 IS lens is becoming the replacement for the 1.4
there would be no benefits from that lens (and from my point of view).
I feel, an updated 50mm 1.4 with real USM and better built quality would find a lot of fans.
(maybe canon feels, the "old" 1.4 was a too good bargain...)

but I guess thats what canon wants: if you need a faster lens, you will have to buy an L...

I have no doubts, this thingy will sell like bread... Its cheap... and its focal length is rather unusual for a canon lens. thats what will encourage most people to buy it. there is no real reason (exept the obvious one: size), to buy this one... since there is a 35 f2 and a 50 1.8 ... but people will buy that new toy... simply because it is the new toy... and because its so cheap, they will think it won't hurt to try it... ;)

it won't be a great lens... but it is in fact a great idea by canon. :) not meeting demands, but creating them.

Lenses / Re: Should I get the existing 24-70 or wait for new version
« on: February 17, 2012, 02:38:01 AM »
c'mon guys... its not that the "old" 24-70 is a crappy lens now... for years its been THE zoom lens to have...
your pics aren't going to be worse because there is a newer gadget on the market... ;)

my advice would be: stick to the classic 24-70 and save some bucks!
if you're a pixel peeper... knock yourself out! literally. :P

EOS Bodies / Re: The things I love about the 5Dmkii

personally, I would have been satisfied with a classic 5d with just a raise in resolution... because I loved the old 5d... I still think, its somewhat cooler than the mkII. but as the nerd that I am, I needed the upgrade...
(the low-light capabilities... you gotta love it... making party-photos with no flash, just a 1.4 lens and the mkII... awesome)

sigma may have a spread issue with the quality of their lenses... but I own a classic 12-24 and I'm actually very pleased with it. I think its quite sharp wide open... (if you don't look at the corners)
If you get a decent one, its quite a bargain... and I would never give mine away for a 17-40 canon.

are there any reliable tests of the mkII out there? I never really looked...

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon 5D3 Announcement Date & Poll (and your thoughts)
« on: November 22, 2011, 04:20:56 AM »
I think, they will (or at least should) rely on the 5DII's life cycle, rather than the announcement of the D800...
If the cash cow still sells... why bother announcing a new one? :)
from a business-point of view, it would make sense... so I'd say march 2012 or later...

I'd say,

1. 30+ mpixel, 5fps, AF-system of 7D
2. march 2012... the 5DII sells way to good to announce it before...
3. 150 - 200% of what the 5DII cost... (they aim for 1Ds + 5DII-owners, don't they...?)

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Nikon D800 Outed?
« on: November 21, 2011, 07:53:11 AM »
I think, Canon will make that 30-40 mpixel full frame monster... and they will most likely not make it a bargain... they aim for the 1Ds- and 5DII-owners... and as they do that... they will implement some stuff from the 1-series, but not much... just enough to justify a significant price mark-up.
but what choice does the average gear-aquisition-syndrome-ridden user have...? :)

whats up with the noise? I mean... it doesn't look bad... but I think it doesn't help this image either.
good framing though.
