Lenses / Which Prime: 50L or 35L?
« on: October 12, 2012, 10:00:45 AM »
Hi guys,
I decided to upgrade all my lenses to “L”. Early this week, I sold my last non-L 50mm f1.4 on CL for $290. That wasn’t an easy decision, but I did it.

I currently have 16-35 II, 24-70 II and 70-200 f2.8 IS II (5D III body). As you can see, I’m pretty much covered from 16 to 200mm at 2.8 straight. It’s time to add a prime to my bag.

Question is which prime?  I’m leaning toward to 50L or 35L – my feeling right now is 55% on 50L and 45% on 35L.

So, which prime will deliver best sharpness at wide open for portrait general shooting & portrait? Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Lenses / A final goodbye to my 50mm f1.4 lens
« on: October 09, 2012, 10:33:07 AM »
I finally posted my 50mm f1.4 on CL yesterday around 3:30PM and the lens got sold by 6PM same day for $290 cash.

When I opened my camera bag this morning, I see an empty spot in my bag - where the 50mm sits when not in use.

My feeling right now =  :-\  to  :'(

Lenses / Canon 16-35mm II + Reikan FocCal Pro --- Tips
« on: October 02, 2012, 04:19:38 PM »
Hi guys,
I bought Reikan FocCal Pro about a month ago. Believe it or not, I have not yet install the software. I’m going to take 1-2 days off from work to calibrate  do microadjustment on my lenses.

My lenses are:
1.   16-35 II - this is the lens I’m going to calibrate first
2.   24-70 II - this lens is sharp. Let see if the lens gets any better after calibration
3.   70-200 f2.8 IS II - this lens is sharp. Let see if the lens gets any better after calibration
4.   50mm f1.4 – I’m so happy with 24-70 II, I now no longer need this lens. Will sell soon

Body: 5D III

This will be my first time doing microadjustment. Also, Reikan FocCal Pro is my first software as a tool.

Any tips from CRs members are greatly appreciated.

For those whose paid full price on 5D III, how do you feel about the 5D III price drop at Adorama Ebay store?

I'll go first. I'm one of the millions people placed a pre-order right after the announcement - YES the very 1st patch with "light leak"  ;D ;D issues....I have mixed feeling for Canon when I saw the price drop.

First, I'm happy for those jumped on this deal for $2749 from an AUTHORIZED DEALER with full 1 year US warranty. I would do the same - TRUST ME.

Second, this is just me - Canon allows or accepts the price drop nearly 25% on a 6 months old body....THAT IS NOT RIGHT. This is a lesson & learn for me.

Am I going to place another pre-order with Canon in the future????  am I going to continuous with Canon products??? Time will tell.

What about you? how do you feel?

I guys,
I took 5D III + 16-35 II + s100 + 15.5" Accer Slim Laptop with me on my last trip to HongKong & China - Jul 23rd to 28th 2012. As you can see all 4 items are fit perfectly in my hand-carry-bag :))

IMPORTANT: Both 5D III + 16-35 II survived 7days of raining in HongKong & China VERY WELL

Here are some pics I took. Hope you guys like it :))

EOS Bodies / Canon Mirrorless Body Style - which style do you prefer?
« on: July 12, 2012, 01:59:04 PM »

The reason I created this poll:
Then no one would buy it. The "classic" looks way better.

you would not buy it.. but i really doubt you can speak for other customers. :)

you have not done a survey, right?
so you can not even say how many people would prefer a classic look.

the SX1 is no beauty.. but then i find angelina jolie not that sexy either.  :)

Who cares how they look?  You aren't taking pictures of them, you're taking pictures with them.

I hated using my AE-1 - rotten ergonomics.  Much better with an actual grip.

What are your favorite places in California for landscape photography?
Would be great if you can include some of your pictures.

Technical Support / CAMERA SETTING for Firework - Your thoughts???
« on: July 02, 2012, 09:42:17 AM »
I have never try taking picture of firework before and would like to give it a try this year.

I went through the 5D III manual last night, “B” mode seems to be a good choice.

What about you guys? How do you set your camera? Shutter & aperture etc?

Happy July 4th and be safe.

EOS Bodies / Canon T4i seems to be in stock everywhere -- WHY????
« on: June 18, 2012, 10:47:48 AM »

Compared to 5D III, the new release 4ti seems to be in stock everywhere. This wasn't the case with 5D III.

Is that means we have more FF shooters out there? Just wonder  ;)

« on: June 14, 2012, 02:29:47 PM »
I wonder what type paper do you use for your photo book?  Is "Proline Pear Photo" from Blurb is high quality paper? Or do you use something else?

I'm looking for decent - high quality paper for my 1st Photo Book.

Thanks

Technical Support / Gray Card Vs AW - Your thoughts?
« on: June 09, 2012, 10:39:35 AM »

I wonder how many shooters out there use Gray Card(GC) as custom white balance? In what situation GC is a must have tool? Or do you use GC at all time?
