EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 5dII vs 5DIII Studio shot

I am not sure the III is out performing the II at 50 ISO. The III seems to lack detail compared to the II.

This is what I'm seeing also, clear as day. I still hope that it is because of the raw converter, maybe even the release candidate of ACR is doing something wrong with the 5D3 raws? Canon dpp shows the 5d3 files way less detailed than 5d2 files, as you can see here: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EOS-5D-Mark-III-DSLR-Camera-Review.aspx

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 5dII with lens or 5DIII/D800

Another vote for 5D II + either 24-70L or 24-105L.  (I bought EF 50mm 1.4 and 24-105L. I would go that route again any day.) And i must say, the AF in 5D II doesn't suck as much as the internet claims. It's certainly a step up from 20D.

I would guess that for landscapes and people portraits there hardly is any difference in the image quality between 5d mk II and 5D mk III.

Canon General / Re: Should I move up to FF or get more lens

well, in landscapes and buildings (where you focus manually on your tripod using live view and low ISOs), you wouldn't see that much improvement. In night photography (where you use AF, high ISOs, fast shutter speeds and fast prime lenses) you could see great improvement on the AF performance and noise if you went for the 5D mark III.

I'm just guessing here as i don't know exactly how you like to shoot.

Personally I would buy photoshop CS5 (if you don't have it already), some fun filters and a vertical grip. I would also sell the 18-55 and probably the 18-200 and buy the EF-S 15-85. ( I would probably also sell the 10-22, but that's just me, i don't do much of ultra wide angle and the 15mm would be plenty wide for my shooting preferences)

The biggest reason why i would upgrade to 5D is that i would get the full advantage from those primes and get shallower DOF more easily. Then again, i would save money and go for 5D mark II (and with the money I save i would get a 85mm prime.)

A spec list tells me nothing like how good a dynamic range the new sensor has or how well it performs in low light. Based purely on it, it is impossible for me to decide weather or not i'm going to upgrade. We'll see.

I am very happy with the specs MP and af wise. 22mp is more than enough, and 61 af points is also more than enough. I do hope the af points to be spred out a little more though. Mostly i'm conserned about DR performance. I need at least 13 stops of dynamic range. If that requirement is not met, i see no point to upgrade from my trusty 5d mark II.

EOS Bodies / Re: What do you want from the 5D mk III

Only two things I want: Better dynamic range, I need at least 13 stops. Then I'll be happy. And if it's not entirely impossible, I wouldn't mind a better af system also. 9 af points is enough, just make them all cross-type and spread them out a little. That's all i ask. I think the video in my 5d mark II is good enough, i don't shoot a lot of video, but it's nice to have.

Hey I'm new to this forum, my first post, so hello everyone!
