Lenses / Canon SuperTelephoto Hood Construction
« on: March 20, 2014, 02:23:37 AM »

I am considering having my 300mm f/2.8 II lens hood laser-engraved with logo / company name (self-promotion).

(yeah, I know I can throw a sticker/vinyl on it, but the logo / info is monochromatic, so it may look very classy).

Looking for information on material underneath white coating?  Any issues with a laser?

Site Information / Thank-you CanonRumors!

Thank-you CanonRumors!  And thank-you all who participate in the forums!

I wanted to use my Post #100 as sincere appreciation for this resource.  I am quite familiar with operating high volume special interest sites - and other than the mild shock on announce day - the site as been available 24/7 and generally clean of spam or conflict.

And while I know its been an interesting rumor year, once the good rumors came out on the new bodies the site was on top of it.  From linking to the first shots of the 5DmIII in Africa to the Announce (and I appreciate the effort for the video feed even though that provider dropped) to the news of arrivals and all the shipping details - CR kept me informed if not a bit obsessed.

While there is more to come, my new 5DmIII has arrived and I am going to go out and play.

Lenses / Nikkor / Zeiss ZF Mount on Canon w/Aperture Ring - Issues?
« on: March 20, 2012, 08:02:47 PM »

Looking at option to use new Zeiss 15mm ZF mount (Nikkor F) on a Canon Body.  It was suggested in the video blog from Stefan Czech.

Apparently the ZF version has an aperture ring that is ideal for video.   And considering a $3K investment for a lens, having dual use on Nikon and Canon bodies (with adaptor) sounds like a deal maker.

I absolutely know this is Manual Focus - the lens is.  No issue.  I am almost always Manual, especially for a wide on landscapes.   The sensor lightup on the Canon side sounds helpful nevertheless.

But what grief will I have for exposure even with an manual aperture ring available?

Not sold on the concept yet.

And this question likely applies to other Nikkor lenses.  I know the 14-24 has no aperture ring so its what - guess?

EOS Bodies / Things to Do while waiting for your new 5DmIII
« on: March 19, 2012, 02:45:08 PM »
As a public service to those who are constantly refreshing and other photo sites while waiting for your new 5DmIII to arrive, here is a list of things to do to stay productive....

1) Clean-up LR folders by removing old shots you'll never use.
2) Work on your Photography website.
3) Visit friends and family; annoy them by turning conversation into one about your new expensive camera.
4) Attempt to get anything done at your office.
5) Watch the Weather Channel for hours.

Lenses / Winter 2012 Rebate Extended?
« on: January 05, 2012, 12:48:51 PM »

I noticed that "Instant Savings" on several Canon Lenses on the BH Photo site has been bumped to Feb 4, 2012.

The main Canon site still shows January 7.
