Lenses / Re: 50 f1.4 vs 85 f1.8.....
« on: May 15, 2013, 03:57:58 PM »
Since you're using a crop sensor, I would recommend getting the 50 1.4, as the FOV is almost equivalent to 85mm. And with 85 1.8, you'll be @ 135mm. Also, you have to take into consideration that the bokeh on crop sensor is not as impressive as FF. So between 1.4 vs 1.8 on a crop sensor, I will go for the extra stop which is 1.4. -- but that's my preference.

Having an FF body, i always prefer the 85 for portraits - both indoor & outdoor. For general use and versatility, I'd pick up  my 50mm.

Hold your horses folks, while you may be correct at some degree... but a lot of users out there would want take care of their gears for RESALE VALUE sake.

WTF is wrong with some people?? are you into photography or cosmetology?

WTF is wrong with some people?? are you into photography or cosmetology?

Believe it or not their are people who look at their camera more than through it.
Cameras are becoming status symbols just like phones have become. If 5d's came in gold i'm sure some people would opt for it.

LOL

Canon General / Re: How do you sell your gear?
« on: September 20, 2012, 03:12:37 PM »
Hello all.

New to the forum, but I've been a long time visitor to the site.  I'm sorry if this has been discussed before, but I'm having a tough time selling some gear.  I'm trying to sell my canon ef-s 17-55.  I've had it up on Craigslist for a few weeks with about 1 or 2 interested in buying that have backed out of at the last minute.  I really don't want to put it on ebay to avoid fees.

I was just curious if anyone knew of any other outlets to sell used gear.

Thanks for any suggestions.

If you have no luck with Craigslist, go to this forum site: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/. Just read the forum rules, and get yourself established - no fees or charges.
I would say 90-95% of the members are canon users (from amateurs to pros), so you should be able to sell you lens quick as long as you price it fairly. Payment wise, you'll have to set up a paypal account.

I mostly sell on this website, if not CL.

11 AF points with a price tag of $2100??? So this a 2K camera because it is FF and it has built in GPS and Wifi - BUT with an ancient AF System? ::) Ridiculous!!! >:( Canon needs to do better if they want to compete with the D600. I hope the spec is purely rumor....SMH :(

I hope they do so we don't have to settle with Eye-Fi Memory cards or worst - WiFi Battery grips (as they are expensive)... :-\

I agree, but some people here talk like threatening to switch if canon doesn't create a camera according to their standards... I'm like, really?!?  ;D

Whiners... whiners... whiners....

Camera manufacturers cannot please everybody, SMH  ::)

Quit complaining and switch to your preferred brand. NO one is going to stop you. :P

Well, it's better to talk of something than talk of nothing.  Anyway, it's all about rumors.  There are other sections in this forum btw.  It's not all about whining.  :)

Lenses / Re: Anyone heard when BH, Adorama or Amazon will ship 24-70 II?
« on: September 13, 2012, 08:54:34 PM »
I received mine yesterday from my local camera dealer Horn Photo in Fresno. I have had much better luck getting new releases from the local dealer than I have BH or Amazon. I no longer preorder from the big stores as the local dealers get their shipments first. I have my 5D3's a week before most folks.

+1

I fully believe on ordering from a local store. I could have had my 5dmkiii the night before it was. To be released, and I could have picked up my 24-70 yesterday. Sadly my schedule hasn't allowed me to get them on that first day.  Both times mine were the only ones the store received on initial shipment. You can guarantee I will order from them again in the future.

Meh... I would rather wait from the big internet retailers (Amazon/Adorama/ BH) especially if I have my current lens to shoot with. If you live here in CA, the tax that retailers charge you is already worth an accessory/s or a cheap prime lens. Just my 2 cents! ;)

Lenses / Re: 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM vs IS II
« on: August 13, 2012, 10:15:41 PM »
I was at the Pro Photo Expo in Pasadena Saturday.  At the Canon booth they had the 1DX demo.  I also ask the canon rep about the new 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM, he said its like nite and day.   But when I mount my 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM  on the 1DX, took couple pictures and then swap the new IS II version on the 1DX.  They both look little similar.  Whats your feedback?   Does it worth to upgrade to the IS II ?

Read this review... http://www.prophotoshow.net/2010/03/12/canon-70-200-2-8-is-2-review-v1-v2-compared/

It's just one of the many out there. But the over all improvement from version 1 is significant.

I smell a big endorsement coming!  Expect canon prices to go up to pay for it.

Didn't they say NIKON?! LOL! Look at the pictures! ::) :P ;D

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon 7D: Buy now or wait?
« on: August 09, 2012, 02:44:37 PM »
Hi all,

Just wanted some opinions and thoughts from either 7D owners or people probably in the same boat as me, who are unsure if they should upgrade to a 7D now or wait until after photokina, in case a new camera comes out?

I have a 500D now, however I've out grown it and looking for a more versatile camera.
Thanks for our comments!

If you're not shooting commercially and you dont have upcoming projects that requires a more versatile camera, then the best thing to do is wait. The only downside is that, the availability of a newly announced product may come later than sooner. Thats the only reason why I would think people would prefer to get one thats readily available in the market. But if you have huge patience... might as well wait as it usually leads to a happy ending. :)

What about the people that held out for a year or more waiting for a 5d3 and then couldn't afford it, or decided at that price they'd rather invest it other ways like lenses etc.

There are many downsides to waiting for the unknown.

Waiting does not necessarily mean you're going to buy the new product... It opens you to a better option and decision that alleviate regrets in the end.  ::) :P

From a local newspaper:

Verdict: This is a wonderful camera. If you hvae Canon lenses and want to move into the blissful realm of full-frame capture, then the 5D Mk III is for you. But the MkII is just as good for stills and costs $1600 less. If you already have a 5D Mk II (as we do), there is no pressing reason to upgrade. If you are starting from scratch with nothing invested in lenses and accessories, then look at the Nikon D800. It has superior ergonomics, a more luxurious feel and higher resolution sensor, and produces uncompressed video. And it is several hundred dollars cheaper.[/u]

Newspapers, magazines, camera & photography websites are mostly subjective. This happens to be one of them. Media is the number one tool in marketing and this is the best way people can promote their bias over other brands.
But one thing that cracks me is the use of words "ergonomically" & "luxurious".
For one, a lot of nikon users praised the ergonomics of the 5D3 and one very good example of that is Jared Polin @ Froknowsphoto.com.
2nd, does luxury even come to play if performance & IQ is the top priority on these cameras?!? Maybe yes if you're shooting leica. :)
