My 6D arrived few days ago.. and I can say.. WOW!
comparing my 6D with my old 40D and 1DS mk3

You cannot be serious about comparing to 10 year old cameras! That was precisely my point -- Canon fans (voluntary or those stuck) are getting hosed by the company , thus they are ecstatic about improvements like 1-point improved focus... hence my OT: are you really serious about 6D?

The only people who logically can get 6D are those Canon Crop users who have tons of pro/FF L glasses but cannot afford a 5D3. If you are upgrading to FF from Canon and are not beaming with L glasses already, the logical route is to jump to a BETTER brand anyway.

Canon, you are not getting a dime of my money on your recent cameras.

I'm sure they'll be crying all the way to the bank, as 60D and Rebel shooters, attracted by the allure of FF and by the 'affordable' price, coupled with consumer-oriented features like GPS, WiFi, and an SD card slot, buy up 6D's left and right.

Bravo, Canon stockholder! As for those Canon shooters who are stuck with inferior sensors.... good luck, buddy.

Please help me understand why people are excited about 6D? I cannot be excited about 97% VF, 1 x-pt AF, crippled 6D with wifi and facebook buttons. I will stick to a 5-year-old beloved 5D Mark II which is identical in IQ to Canon's newest sensors. Canon, you are not getting a dime of my money on your recent cameras. I have diversified my lenses so am not hostage to inferior sensors anymore.

We all know that Canon's sensor tech is not getting rave reviews these days, but this is not about the sensor tech, but the sensor SIZE. All FFs have same size, but APS-C varies across companies.

Canon's APS-C is 10% smaller than its competition's. So, for Canon's crop cameras to be on the same playing field as the competition, they will have to have better sensor tech.

If you should have the double resolution then you need 72 Mp
I think there is a big difference in resolution , look at X and the text authentic beers

Look who cares about the labels below the name? Only pixel peepers care about those. Viewers only look at the image for like 2 seconds and move on. What matters is the actual composition and exposure, not silly things like resolution or detail.

said it before and will say it again...   i have seen the light!  Obviously charts and more charts are the way!  I think from now on instead of giving clients images to review, I will just have dxo measure them, translate it to charts, and send my clients the charts and let them choose that way!  Cause that's all that matters right?  I mean who cares about images, lets just review charts all day!

Let's suppose same image taken by same photographer, but using two cameras. One has an off the charts IQ and another does not. Which image would you rather give to your client?

Question: after EOS 1DX's trashing of D4 and 5D Mark III's victory over D800, will 6D destroy D600 for a complete Canon FF sweep?

If you had a camera that had the DR of the human eye but only shot one frame every 10 minutes at ISO 100 only and was only manual focus...

I've read in a book of a Russian author (not sure if it was translated to English) that human eye has 5-6 stops of DR. And the reason we can see much bigger range of lightness levels is the ability of our eyes to adapt to the rapidly changing environment.

The book's author was a researcher in photography so this statement might be true. Did anyone hear anything like that?

I always was told our eye has a massive DR but not because of the optics but how our brain can dynamically adjust areas of a scene to make blacks brighter and highlights darker. Kinda like dynamic area ISO.

Dynamic range is the total sensitivity range. Just like with a camera and a computer, the eye/brain configuration chooses which range out of the total sensitivity range to "process to". I think our eyes are capable of well more than 5-6 stops on average at any given moment, but I do not believe we can see the entire 25+ stop dynamic range our eyes have all at once. Exactly how much we can see in any one go I can't say, although if I compare my eyes to my 7D, I can definitely see more than 11 stops at a time. My 7D will either clip highlights or block shadows if I try to capture a scene with 12 stops, but my eyes seem to concurrently handle the highlights and shadows of the same scenes just fine.

Our eyes are like D800 where we can (naturally) pull out a lot of shadow details instantly.

Actually, Nikon can start (re)naming their cameras as DXO4, DXO800 etc.

LOL! That's a good one.

Ironically, Nikon's DX are trouncing Canon's flagship 1DX in DXO. My head hurts.

With the EOS 1Dx, Canon has the best AF (after the f/8 focusing and black focus point fix), best frame rates, best low light ever, and of course the best pro sensor according to the rumored DxO leaks.

And it sucks for those using lower tiered Canon products with older sensor tech, but Canon's flagship has certainly been crowned the undisputed king of pro bodies. Hopefully now the lower tiered products get the same superior sensor in the future. May be 6D is that breed of new superior sensors coming out. Watch out sonikon, Canon is back with a vengeance!

Furthermore, a good photographer can use his p&s to create more interesting shots than a retard with D800. So, as you can see there is no need to project inferiority complex. Be happy with what you have, or switch.

I see a lot of defensive and insecure posts here. Just because 5D3I has DR of 11.3 and D800/600 have 14+, it doesn't mean you have to attack DxO and others. If anything attack Canon for their inferior sensors recycled from circa early 2000s. Get a grip.

Canon is doing just fine (for now). This internet furor over their inferior sensor will eventually prompt them to innovate, but the reason they look as bad is because the competitive tech from sonikon is simply too good. A life long Canon user, now I use D600... it just destroys my 5D3 in IQ, no question about it. The detail, tone, and color is far superior to 5D3 (in RAW as use jpegs only as preview).

Nope, it isn't, it's the same as the 5d2 with added low-light capability, read the specs: It has only a horizontal f2.8-sensitive line, i.e. if that cannot achieve focus it falls back to the f5.6 lines. I didn't understand that at first either, but Dr. Neuro explained :-) ... and this is my biggest grief with the 6d, it's anti-tuned for f2.8 lenses just like the 5d3/1dx af is tuned for them. It's made for the 24-105/4L (kit) and 17-40/4L (Canon did the sample shots with this)

And the center AF point of the 5D2 works well. The limitation of this AF sensor is in tracking as well as the peripheral points. Since the 6D center AF works at -3 eV compared to -0.2 eV on the 5D2 and -2 eV on the 5D3, one cannot draw immediate conclusions WITHOUT even trying the camera.

Another thing, ALL the cross AF sensors on the D600 are clustered around the center. Of what use is that?

Actually, all full-frame cameras with optical phase detection AF sensors are clustered around the center. D600 is slightly more so... take a look at the comparison between D600 vs D800... not much difference. I use my D600 to get enough negative space, plus it is real plus when it comes to action(when things are centered):
