Perhaps a newbie question but anyway: S and X are used on some models by Canon as well as the "dark side". What are their meanings?  Are they used in the same sense by both brands?

Landscape / Northern lights today?

It looks like the solar storm yesterday has reached earth and we might be seeing decent amount of northern lights. Probably I am too far south to observe anything but was wondering whether anyone has captured any images which we could see...

Lenses / Diffraction: f-value or aperture diameter?

Hello everyone,

A question on diffraction: frequently  diffraction effect seem to be mentioned with reference to f-numbers, however, if I am not mistaken, diffraction effect negatively correlate with the diameter of the lens aperture and not with the f-number itself. As a result, everything else remaining equal, the effect should  be the same at 150 mm f/11 and 300mm f/22.

Just trying to get it clear for myself so any info/reflections are appreciated!
