EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS 60D Pictures?
« on: August 11, 2010, 02:08:33 PM »
Resizing a 18MP image to 10 MP using a decent algorithm is not very much different to using a 10MP sensor with larger pixels in terms of signal processing. After all it's always about integrating photon impact over time and position - it doesn't matter so much if it's done in the hard or the software.
This may be right for DSLRs with big enough pixels. For point'n'shoots I personally think it's wrong. As far as "dynamik range" is concerned, the photogate of the pixel is "full" when a certain amount of photons are collected. The bigger the pixel, the higher the capacity of the photogate, the higher the dynamik range.

Edit: By the way, I really like the pictures of the camera. Looks like a small camera with good ergonomics and good built quality to me.

18mp (Exact same as the 7D & T2i)
Exact the same as 7D/550D? Wasn't there a difference between these two sensors? I remember having read this somewhere...

If they don't release a new FF camera by the time I actually need a camera, I am thinking of just picking up a 40D as a cheap way to hold me over until a camera I really want comes out.  Like you, I think it handles noise very nicely, and you can get them really cheap now.
You're not really saying that a 40D offers better image quality at lets say 3000x2000 px than a 7D, are you?  :o

Edit: oh, sorry, I didn't read your last post. Never mind.  :)

A revolutionary PowerShot? What would that be? I would highly appreciate a larger sensor. Maybe good old 2/3"? :)

Photokina? ;)

60D, because the release date is the closest ;).
Besides I'm also curious about G12, 2000D, 600D...  8)

@ release date, why are there alyways these funny dates (like August 11.), who believes that? By now it should be obvious for everyone that they announce the new cameras at photokina.
What is so funny about Augst 11th? :)

EOS Bodies / Re: What does canon do for Sony NEX-VG10 ?

Where ever it is and whatever it is I hope it is FULL FRAME not aps-c
Why this? APS-C equates to the standard 35 mm film-look... A full frame is even bigger.

I'd like to see some more revolutionary changes though, particularly in sensor performance, video function, and even the lens department.
I'd like that too. Concerning the sensor, the only way to get better image quality is: bigger sensors and less pixels.

Funny somehow that it took so long since somebody (now it's Sony) releases a Camcorder with a big sensor. I expected this to happen much earlier. Maybe there is a difference between offering video-capability in a DSLR and offering the same in a camcorder which primary purpose is to record video with a certain level of quality (although I don't exactly see the lack of quality comparing e.g. the 7D with Sony's VX2100).

They won't press canon for size, much. (well maybe a smaller FF body with HD EVF wouldnt hurt) 8)
I'm sure a smaller FF body (Rebel-sized?!) with a "conventional" mirror-viewfinder wouldn't hurt either. ;)
I definitely would buy one. I don't know if it's possible but there are a lot old SLRs out there, at the size of Rebels or even smaller, so the viewfinder shouldn't be the problem.

EOS Bodies / Re: 60D Flip Screen Saga [CR2]

Touchscreen to. Use it if you like... if you don't like it buttons are still there. Like on Panasonic G2. It adds some cool and useful new features, thats for sure. Costs virtually nothing to implement in hardware.
A touchscreen should be a lot more expensive to build. Besides, I think, it would be thicker (not good for a flip screen). And: I like buttons. I want to feel the button, this gives a more secure and faster handling.
I don't know if AMOLED is the screen of choice. All the AMOLED screens I saw on mobiles and stuff like that weren't as good as LCDs as far as color fidelity and so on are concerned...

Size reduction compared to what? :o
I don't think going to be good if it is smaller than T2. Once you hold D90 or 50D in your hands they feel just about right. Going a bit thinner couldn't hurt but only to cca Rebel dimensions ~6cm

IMO give us a bit <50D body, FF, and HD EVF and call it a day...
Next upgrade: global shutter.
The Rebels could be more ergonomic, but they don't have to be bigger necessarily... Just give the grip a different form (a little bit thicker...)

I'm still wondering how Canon wants to seperate from EP-1, GF1 and so on... only with the capability of using EF/EF-S lenses?

+1 on having it similar to the 7D (size wise) That would be sick if it took EF and EF-S lenses since we all have more than enough of them already!
Why having a EVIL with similar size compared to 7D? Buy a 7D than! What would be the advantage? I think the main advantage of EVIL is being able to build more compact cameras...

However, they still make good cameras, at least DSLRs... ;)
I'm curious about the 60D... and whether it will have a flip screen or not...  8)
